Hey Mark. Its a buddy from across the pond. Don't be afraid to pre press some joints! For example you could've pressed your 2 90s together with the piece that went into the coupling. Then just put it into the coupling and moved it to the orientation you wanted then just press the coupling in place. Less moving parts. But like you said press takes a little pre thought especially in some tricky spots. You'll get it man! Keep killing it!

It’s that customer service that makes all the difference. It takes dedication to give up a Saturday morning to a job that’s already broken the record for ballache per square foot. Plenty would have left it: it’s only a small thing, but your customer would have seen it twice a day for the next ten years or so and felt a tiny little twinge of disappointment every time. Now it’ll be a daily reminder that they chose the right person to do the job.

Another fine job Mark. Wish there were more plumbers like you around. I agree with the press fit argument they do look a bit chunky. Not as bad as compression but I would still prefer the soldered option.

Hi Mark, the bathroom looks great in the end, that pump really changed the performance of that shower, excellent. I think the press fit was acceptable in that situation, it is out of sight and you could complete the job with water still in the pipe, so all good. I would have had to change the unit top too, as my ocd would not let me leave the damaged on in situ. I’m enjoying the press fit tutorials, another great film thank you, take care, regards, Chris. 👍👍👍

When i had my boiler changed i got the plumber to put me a megaflow hot water tank in, the showers are now perfect in our bathrooms now. well done mate you got this sorted in the end.

Lovely job in the end. Being a diy plumber for over 40 years I've loved the changes that have taken place, except for the price. Pressfit is great in some situations, but expensive and really just for the tradesman. Although I'm just a diyer, Ive seen some absolutely awful work by so called plumbers tbh, but also excellent jobs as well. You're obviously one of the good ones. Nice one mate.

There’s definitely a learning curve with press. I’ve found on my press gun if I’m trying to hold a pipe plumb with a level on it I can feather the trigger and not have it do the entire crimp in one punch but rather check the level mid way through the crimp cycle while the pipe is stiff but still has movement if it needs adjustment. Then finish the crimp. I’m not sure if all guns can stop mid way but I find that very useful. Also watch out that the jaw doesn’t interfere with another part of the fitting, one time I crushed the other side of a tee fitting where the gun forced itself into it and I had to cut out some work and start over. It definitely has its place but I can almost guarantee you will still be using your torch. By the way after 18 years of plumbing I’m two weeks into working for myself. Talk about a learning curve. My biggest challenge so far is scheduling myself and trying to get faster at paperwork!

I've been using the Rothenberger press tool for a few years now. I don't do the volume of plumbing you do and agree, they can twist a little on pressing. When you are stretching or in a floor void and can't always get your spare hand on the pipe/fitting to steady it. However, inside a unit/under a bath etc I think it's tidy. Much better than plastic in my option. I'd rather see press than compression even if in view. Keep up the great work 👌

I have not used press fit yet but using the tool to make the joint does seem a bit of a struggle in enclosed spaces where a push fit would have been much easier. For joints which are not connected to wet pipes good old end feed is neatest and a compression joint to the wet pipe!!

Very interesting video Mark good intro to press fit. You are a customers dream plumber you really are I’m sure a lot of plumbers would not have bothered coming back to sort those issues out. With reg to the shower pump you had a separate hot from the cylinder already fitted for the existing shower so you used that isn’t that right and I take it the cold was independently tank fed. Is 15 mm pipe ok then for those pump supplies inc cold from tank. Cheers great video you’ve done it again excellent material.

If i was the customer I would have just left that dent/imperfection, I think it was quite minor and a lot of effort to change that over but you did a really good job on it mark.

Hello Mark really good to see the level of customer service you have provided here. Bit of a blow to see this type of fault in the first place, after doing everything right! I think every fitter would done the same thing and left the film on untill it was fitted. Only to find the little fault when you removed it. All done now and sure the customer would have appreciated it. Those press fit fittings worked well in this scenario. No risk of scorch marks or need to get water out of pipes before soldering. The only thing I would have done different would have been to use a couple of offsets instead of all those elbows. Appreciate you were trying to show everyone your new press though 😂

Great video, I don't know if its just me or if its just that maybe your not to used to press yet but it just seems like a bit of a faff. I actually enjoy soldering find it quite relaxing in a way. Its interesting to see how you find it I'm only an apprentice and have never tried it but it is still good to see what its like to use for the future.

Nice to hear a plumber saying Press Fit doesn't look great! I'm just a DIYer but do love plumbing. For years on YT and forums, plumbers have whinged and mocked solder ring for being a DIY job and looking horrendous yet they all seemed to love Press Fit and jump all over it 🤣 I get its application and pro points but I think its over used for general work and is just more expensive but that's probably why plumbers want to go that way.

I''m a Heating Engineer , Plumber, Gas fitter, Welder, Boiler maker, 37 yrs I do all my own work in my own house, Cause I've been so busy my wife organised our En Suite to get re modelled they have done a shit job leaks shit silicone and plumbed the hot to the cold and the cold to the hot pipes, not a big deal to me as I'll change it but can you imagine the hassle to civillians. Experts eh.

Hi mate we fit composite worktops all the time in kitchens. We cut them with track saw and Jigsaw. We have had a lot lately with same sort ov imperfections. Believe it or not it is possible to sand out and re polish.. we are kitchen and bathroom fitters, been seriously thinking about getting press tool for onside cabinet's will be interesting to see how you get on. Keep up the top content 🤙🤙🤙

You sort of feather it out and make it a huge dent that's not so noticeable 🤔🤔. Well this is the way the manufacturer shows us how to deal with it. Seems to work well TBF. I have just never liked soldering inside of cabinets. My concerns are more about the space needed to get the tool in, I think the cost is not an issue as I think it would save you so much time. Would like to see you do a kitchen second fix if possible mate to see how you get on. Cheers Dave

Should've used them random 45's in your fitting box to make an offset of sorts. 😂 Good education on press. I'd be interested to know longer term if you stick with it how it affects your pricing. Jobbing jobs the time saved might equal another job done so it'd pay for itself, but bigger jobs on day rate with lots of fittings might be a different story I guess. I can see the advantage definitely for pipes with water in them, and for mlcp you've got no choice, but for newbies starting out its a luxury to aim for.

Hi Mark I'm about to hang up my boots and I'm not having that press fit end of! What's wrong with push fit and if you want copper fittings use techtite. Also please go back to that job and take the valve off the expansion its giving me nightmares 😂😂

The lever is off the valve and it’s locked open with the bolt…… I will be back in a few months doing the cloakroom so will do it just for you..😉

Remember Tiff, you just press the button once and let the pressfit do the rest.

@M J Tiff Plumbing yeah true, there is that🤣 first time I ever mitred the worktop in my own kitchen I had a tiny missing triangle in the corner where I hadn't measured properly. Was tempted by the pot plant idea then, but the wife wasn't having any of it!

Pressure pump: are there no other versions available, such as in-line? So it will be straight in one end and straight out the other end, instead of this top in and top out?

Nice work as ever. I’m not a fan of fitting those worktops as the ‘it can go wrong factor’ is high. I’ve cut them with a decent circular saw blade. Goes through them like butter. I was surprised but got advice from a granite worktop bloke

Hi Mark. Continuing to enjoy your videos. Just a comment about the choice of shower pump: Personally, I would have opted for a universal pump. Reason being is that the choice of pump isn't necessarily the location of the pump in relation to the tank in the loft, but the distance between the base of the tank in the loft and the shower outlet. It might well be that the head pressure from the rain shower is so poor it might not be sufficient to operate the flow switch in the pump. Many people with positive head showers with this sort of set up find they have to start the shower by firstly diverting to the hand held sprayer, removing it from the holder then directing it downwards. Also, is that an isolation valve I can see on the hot water draw-off before the vent?

Glad to hear that, Mark. It's just something I've come across a few times. It's usually not an issue to begin with while the flow switch is nice and new, but the issues start when the flow switch ages a bit.

Sometimes a iron with a damp cloth can return things to normal.

Fine grade sandpaper would never remove a dent as it does not offer enough of a cut, it might hide it but with the light at the right angle you'll still be able to see it and always been able to feel it's still there. You would need to start with a low grit sandpaper to flatted the surface out and then work up to remove the scratch marks by which point you would have broken threw the finish layer. looking threw the comments I agree with yourself and most others on how bad press fit looks, I don't even think they really look industrial they are just plain right to big and meh. I would much rather see solider fittings. I think the Yorkshire fittings or at least I think that's what they are called (ones that have solder inside) look industrial but in a good way, suite my taste I guess.

Yep and my worry would be your basically making a bowl in the worktop so if anything weee to be spilt it would show by just pooling in that area

Feel you pain on this one mate, I take it that you swapped it out at your expense? I had a similar one recently! Customer had asked for the tap to be lined up with the central mullion of the window in the bathroom. Worktop sink and tap installed and customer okayed it ( very fussy so covered my a***). A few days later she calls and says it’s not central (installed with a lazer from the mullion to the centre of the tap!). Turned out she’d supplied me with the wrong sink ( she had 2, one of which didn’t meet her quality control!) but insisted the tap wasn’t central ( it was). It was also made worse as the tiler had worked his centre from wall to wall and not to the window (5mm discrepancy) I agreed (stupidly) to replace the sink and on removing it (carefully) it delaminated the worktop ( really pleased about that🤬). Customer put the onus to replace the top on me even though she’d given me the wrong sink! Luckily my supplier gifted me one but still out of pocket time wise and vowed never to return!

It’s all about building the relationship with your merchants etc…😉 As it was damaged from the factory it was replaced, however I lost the time money wise but that’s what you do for your customers sometimes

@@MJTiffPlumbing it a good job they replaced it after it had been fit. so i would have thought to removed the outer packaging first then inspection, if if all good then go ahead with the fitment. some suppliers may not offer replacement once its been fitted.

bit like speedfit then...just a massive chew on with that hulking expensive tool, underfloorboards...and non demountable....its the reason the old grey hep fittings got changed.....one error like you made on that bathroom pipe up and ya choppin big lumps of copper out ....just seems a bit faddy....imho....@@MJTiffPlumbing

Anything over 2m feed pipes should be 22mm I think , salamander pumps r pure dort I've has some hassel with them over the years only fit stuart Turner now

Never had issues with Salamander to be honest… 👍🏼

Matters about flow from highest point not if theres a tank in roofspace in considering which pump to use always best using universal imo

Best to use what is designed for the job, universal is not quite the best at either imho…

The minimum flow rate required for our positive head pumps is 2 litres of water per minute (L/min). If you don't have this minimum flow rate from all outlets that are to be pumped, or if you're not sure, then you will need a universal (negative head) pump.

1st thing u check when doing a shower pump buddy

Hi Mark the last issue would you have considered giving the customer a discount or a part refund due to the damage? I was thinking with a mat and a plant on top it could be so easily hidden. A shame to have to undone it all just for that slight damage.
