my "knack" for fitting a bath is I batten the two walls with some stud work (thin piece across tap edge so you're not blocking yourself from installing the taps) then as soon as that's level you can lower the feet to the required height. boom it's level and provides extra support and no sagging of the bath especially if there's a shower going over it, no leaks and no squeaks. Great video as always mate, was thinking he's making this harder for himself on a few bits, then saw what you were doing at the end and it all made sense, like you said we've all got our own way of doing things

Hi MJ, Carron baths used to advertise with a 7.5 ton truck sat on a bath under each wheel to show their strength which is probably why they don't bother with a central leg because the base plate is much thicker and I think ply as opposed to chipboard.Good baths made in Scotland I think and stay hot much longer than most but they aren't cheap 😁

Another great video Mark, you explinations are always clear and to the point. My preference is for completely concealed pipe work . As far as the shower goes, if this was for me I would go with just a large shower enclosure. However, I appreciate that for some a bath is required. Looking at the room as is I would turn the shower tray through 90 degrees and swap its position with the basin. Then possibly put the toilet in the corner with the basin between it and the shower. It’s hard to be sure not knowing the dimensions. It is the clients choice at the end of the day, but, I think they might regret having the window in the shower! Keep these great videos coming.

The easiest way I’ve found to level a bath is to set your bath strap to the correct height and make sure it’s level, put the bath in, having it on the strap. Then start with the legs loose and start from the back left corner (left side of the overflow) to the right side of the overflow and level that. Then level from the front side where the handles for some baths are. Level the bottom part and you’re good to go. Your back legs should just need to be pulled down and secured. Starting with the a level strap makes it super easy for me!

Easiest way iv found to level a bath is to fix 1 wooden baton to the wall level .....normally use something thin like roofing lath. drop bath on wooden baton and wind the two closest to the wall legs up so they dont touch the floor ......then just level off the two far feet and fix them. then lower the other two feet down and fix them...dead easy and it adds a lot of strength ....no need to fill bath before you silicone also , because it just wont move ..... add classi seal tape before this for a bullet proof lifetime seal , or i do anyways :)

Is that downstairs ceiling being counter battened? Would it have been an idea to run the bath waste between the joists rather than under the ceiling? The shower waste could of gone inline with it too? Could the basin waste not gone in the stud wall? Just a lot more to box in?

Have to agree, that layout is terrible, as you suggested, bath under the window would have been much better, not sure what size that bathroom is, looks very similar to my own one that I've just refurbished, 9'x7'6 managed to fit both a bath and shower by compromising a little on the shower, and fitting a 900 quadrant, along with a carron status bath, the curved end along with keeping things uncluttered by using concealed taps, valves, cistern along with an, overflow filler we kept the cramped feeling at bay, though a different window and door orientation means it wouldn't work in that room.

  • @MJTiffPlumbing

I don't understand why when people say "I want a shower and a bath" in a smaller room why they won't just do a wet room with a bath in it. It's so much easier when it's at this stage to just do that and cement board and tile, saves room and makes it feel bigger and more grand than it actually is. Loving the trick with the level I do something similar but I've made a jig now. I'm surprised you didn't add one more bend for those utility drops, sods law if you get any grief it'll be those push fit elbows tucked behind that soil pipe.
