I was working on a church renovation and the undercroft had £50,000-worth of hard-wood flooring with underfloor heating. System had been pressure tested, but when they switched the water on, a big damp patch started to spread in a section of the hard-wood flooring. When they lifted the floor, they found several holes neatly drilled in the pipe, like a flute.

I'm a DIYer and did my own bathroom a couple of years ago and it was my biggest plumbing project yet, so very anxious about leaks etc. Got to the point where I'd filled everything with no issues, then had a weekend off at a friend's wedding and stayed over for the night. Woke up to the sound of water gushing out of somewhere... turns out it started throwing it down overnight and one of the gutters was leaking at the hotel and splashing down right outside my room. Gave me a right old fright! Great video, liked and of course, subscribed.

One time I filled a system and had a leak. The house was in the same village as my gaff. I laid in bed that evening thinking about it. Biked down there at 3am to make sure all was well by peering through their window. All was well. But that's the stress of the job sometimes.

Well done mark that's a good achievement you can be proud of yourself all the months of hard work you have put in to that job, I bet your nerves where shot by the end of the day. My biggest clanger was just plumbed a laundrette out left the tank filling all was well went outside took a phone call had a smoke went back in after 20 mins and it was flooded out, hadn't tightened a nut on the incoming 28 cold on the cylinder. Luckily enough it was tiled floor and plastic panel walls but it took two of us an hour to sweep the water out, I didn't sleep that night until I seen it was dry with no damage the next day.

Very good work mate! Have a look at the Oras Smart Valve, it’s a washer valve that is activated by a remote button (wireless or wired), which keeps the water on for 4 or 12 hours, which saves your bacon in case of a burst hose or a leaking machine valve. I fitted on in my parents kitchen, and it’s managed on two lithium AAs for a year with the valve on for 8 hours per day approximately. The Oras fitting are also very nice, made in Finland and I’ve seen them last with zero need for maintenance for decades.

I have been plumbing for to many years and have only ever used Plumbers mate Had my eyes opened a couple of years ago did a shower room in around 2010 as away then used loads of silicone around the tray. Went to the CT1 stand at a show and they guy was explaining how silicon degrades from the second it leaves the tube how it continually shrinks and allows air in bringing bacteria hence black mould. A few months later I was called to shower room (2010) to find water was getting past the tray tile seal and poring down the wall between the wall and the tray. I was slightly in disbelief as I had never had a tray or bath seal fail. I now only use CT1 around bath and shower trays and I am confident for the future. Gone also to some call outs where the bath waste had been siliconed and was now leaking. You may never get it apart with CT1 but to be sure it won’t leak not in my working career. I hate going to leaks that are down to poor workmanship don’t know how some people leave joints bodged

Nice work Mark, I’ve had many sleepless nights preparing for the turn on! I once connected a hidden wall mounted shower tap the wrong way round, hot to cold and cold to hot. Luckily we did the tiling and had a spare tile so I had to smash one out, cut through the plaster board and change the connections. Luckily again, the connections were push fit flexi so no trouble there. It did however cause me a lot of embarrassment and half a day lost.

Brilliant, well done Mark, what an excellent job, I could feel my stress levels climbing for you during this film. Glad it all turned out well without any major problems after such a massive install. This was a fantastic epic film, After 30 minutes i needed a 10 minute break, to let my OCD settle before I could watch the last 15 minutes. Real world plumbing, yes it is no doubt, I enjoyed that, take care, regards, Chris. 👍👍👍

MJ, did you remember to fit the durgo valve 😁. The only thing that worries me about this whole job going forward (and you have tested it) is the end on end waste joint you had to modify under that copper bath, I would worry that they might lean on it and move it slightly one day but that's just me and I am a pessimistic bugger 😁. Nice work geezer.

Instead of silicone I have always used non setting plumber's putty as I like the idea it is removable and easy easy to undo when the waste needs changing. And you can save the excess and put it back into your jar. I have also seen a video showing somebody wrapping ptfe or paste on the threads at the height where the retaing nut screws and also works. There's a manufacturer making a kit to avoid using any of those.

Wetter than an otters pocket lol. On basins I’ve started using those easy fix kits with the plastic ring and big rubber cone. So far I’ve not had one leak but if a basin leaks it’s usually down the bloody threads.

For bigger jobs, would it be adviceable to pressurize the system with a compressor and have a pressure cage fitted to see if the pressure holds for hour or two. If pressure drops, you have knowledge there is a leakage. Just an thought. Like your video's, keep up the good work.

Only had to claim on personal/public liability insurance twice in 20+ years. infrequently, a grovelling apology and a few £ bunged by way of plasterers to expedite remedial work has sufficed. From memory, 2 or 3 times in same time 20 yr period. Everyone fooks up, occasionally. Strangely, breaking out a cemented in WC resulted in 3 weeks off work with a severely lacerated finger. Nearly resulted in possibility of re-constructive surgery. Claimed on PPL for loss of earnings for myself. It was an A&E Dr.'s job. Whisked thru casualty, x-rayed, cleaned, stitched up and a letter for the insurance within 3 hours. Got paid offa insurance but guess what? When I renewed my PPL insurance with same Co. premiums went up by more than what I had claimed for. Changed insurers.
