I gave up tournament fishing and took up golf and it’s simply more fun. I still love bass fishing, but I’ve found wade fishing smaller creeks and rivers in a Saturday morning is more enjoyment than tournament fishing. Tournament fishing is turning a once solid community into a giant group of assholes.

Fishing and winning a tournament solely via FFS is equal to saying someone using AI to generate an image is an artist. You’ll never see AI generated images held in the same regards as a true artist that creates images with their hands. You’ll never see an AI image in a museum next to a Rembrandt just like these tournament wins will all have an * asterisk by them some day.

@@brian9670 Zero Times. I try not to use a regular fish finder either if I can... though I will at times in order see what the water temps are and get an idea of what depth they are if I cannot find them. Which is rare these days now that I am gaining more knowledge and skill. Regular fish finders are cheating too really... less of a challenge. Less knowledge and understanding of the water, weather, and ecosystem required because of it. I have been intensely watching a great many YT fishing channels that are using Livescope (mainly). 1/2 of the channels are usually fishing in tournaments when they do. They do very well. They will see the scope out around the areas they are fishing and find the pockets of fish... change lures based on how deep they need to go... then watch the fish AND their lures in real-time to see how the fish behave. Then make adjustments to get the strike. They will point out in the exact direction and say things to their partner/the camera like... "20' in that direction... and about 10' down. That is a grouped up bunch of over 4 lb fish. They ignored my ________ lure. Now they just turned towards yours! I will try a ______ to see if we can get that bite" (Made that up... but very similar). I have also seen them scoping way up under massive structure like a 30' deep concrete piling structure in real time... you can even see the fins on fish and tell what they are. Might as well be a video camera. In a tournament... you can save a LOT of time and cover more ground by looking to see if the big fish/of the same type of fish you seek are in the mix. Maybe if I were trying to bring home dinner in order to survive... then I would use one.

I would prefer they just ban FFS in certain fisheries and allow it in others. If you want to use FFS that's fine but you have to compete against other anglers that use it. If you want to fish traditionally and not have to compete against FFS then you'll have places to go to as well. Then over time we'll have some real data that will guide future rules.

Why not go the racing route? NASCAR vs F1 will work for fishing. There’s too many pro fishing series anyway. Split it between the two, I’d watch a no chartplotter/sonar and no spot lock with 150hp limit. Keep the boats under 19ft and a four rod limit. You see how those skills hold up then.

This channel… y’all are so worried about fisheries… why not ban LIVE BAIT??? That’s something that requires much less skill… almost always catches at least a few fish… and the fish catches have a very high mortality rate!!! I have live scope and I definitely do not always use it… I openly admit that part of that is because it’s NOT easy to learn to use and I haven’t taken the time to learn it better… contrary to what’s thrown around here, it’s absolutely not a plug-n-play kinda technology to use! just by reading these comments I can affirm that at least 95% of the complainers have never used one… I have a masters in IT, and I’m a dork… but the learning curve is actually pretty steep… esp if you only have a day or two on weekends…

I feel these should be made illegal in fishing all together. You are catching fish that normally don’t get caught. Fishing ponds to death just so you can catch the most. If you can’t catch fish without tech you aren’t a fisherman in the first place. Really. Look at the stats instead of being a salty walrus. We are fucking sport fishing up. 20% of fish caught and released die due to mishandling, or gut hooks. With bass fisherman and their whole setting a hook like your catching a shark thing, you do the most damage.

I really don’t think this is a good comparison. With all the knowledge the conventional old school fishermen have combined with FFS I would think they could locate and catch fish faster and better than a wet behind the ears strictly FFS fisherman. The problem is that ffs turns a sport that once required skill and knowledge into a zombie screen watching event. Although the old school pros could go zombie and hit that curveball, I think they have better integrity and overall respect for an awesome sport. Or it’s like wanting to drive a classic car with a manual transmission and a carburetor, or driving around in a Tesla on self drive mode while you look on your phone!😂

He can see a fish on the scope and know what type of fish it is. During the interview the host and him were just cruising with the trolling motor and she was randomly casting and he says “you’re about to catch a sand bass” and almost on cue she got a bite and caught a sand bass. It was unreal. He let me use it to catch a few crappie. I’m sold on it I just can’t afford it.

Fishing is not a sport. It's a hunt. Baseball, football, basketball, hockey, golf, motorsports are sports. They don't rely on a living creature to score, they have fields of play designed specifically for them, the public isn't on the same field of play while they are, and they are spectator friendly. Fishing will never rise to that level and shouldn't be viewed as a professional sport. "Professional" fishermen are their own worst enemy and until the industry comes under strict rules and regulations to showcase skills and promote active sustainability it will continue to be one big commercial vehicle to generate profits from the public. Fishing is not a sport.

Tournaments should be competition of skill. Use all the ffs to learn a body of water, use it to learn fish behavior and add it to your skill bank. But when tournaments happen, its time to use what you learned with your ffs and all the other skills you have in your bank of knowledge to win. Every professional sport has restrictions and rules to keep the playing field level. Its like one football team uses a regular football and the other team uses a laser guided homing football. Just saying.

Your not a purest fisherman unless you're using a cane pole.... None of us are.... This is the evolution of fishing. If this drives more interest from younger potential fishermen then we need to embrace this technology. We need all the fishermen we can get.
