Hello Eddy Bass [ @eddybassreacts ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band!, as your 1st reaction! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘

You forgot Tuomas on the synthesizer. He’s the composer of all Nightwish music. He writes everything for all the instruments, and without the synthesizer it won’t be the same. He’s the basis of everything.

The drummer is often central in Nightwish' music. More prominent than in most bands. I understand that all metal music would be dead without the drums but Nightwish elevates it.

Tuomas (on keyboards) is the composer and writer of the lyrics of most Nightwish songs. He is called the Metal Mozart for a good reason. Jukka on drums is phenomenal; unfortunately he has to stop drumming in 2015 because of immense health problems. He is still with the band but now in management. Now his good friend Kai is the drummer of Nightwish; he also is a really great drummer but with a totally different style. Emppu on guitar is one of the founding members of Nightwish; he also is phenomenal but always plays what the song needs instead of showing off. And he loves to make jokes on stage; he is the soul of the band. He and Floor love to play tricks on each other. Marko Hietala, the phantastic bass player and second singer, is a legend in his home country Finland. His voice is intriguing and singing in harmony with Floor is gorgeous (sometimes he takes over the lead singing, e.g. in The Islander and Kiss while your lips are still red, also the tribute to Pink Floyds High Hopes is fantastic). Another member you cannot see in this performance is Troy Donockley from England; he is a highly talented multi-instrumentalist who for example plays the Uillean Pipes (Irish pipes) and several flutes, but also many more instruments. And he is the third singer of the band. And then there is Floor Jansen, the third and present singer of Nightwish and the most versatile of them. She can sing all from opera to death metal growls and all in perfection. In one song she sings like an angel, in the next song she sings like a demon, often she changes several times within one song. Her voice is like no other I have ever heard: She directly touches your soul, gives you strength, hope, joy, comfort and a warm embrace. And the next moment she throws you down to the ground with a real thunderstorm of a voice. She is my absolutely favourite singer and Nightwish my favourite band.

As a bassist, I trust you also noticed the work of the great Marko Hietala 🙂A metal legend in his own right in his home country of Finland, after decades as the singing bassist of the band Tarot. His distinctive style comes from mainly two things: being classically trained on guitar, and being a huge fan of Geezer Butler, the bassist of Black Sabbath. (You can easily hear Geezer's influence on Marko's bass sound, even if Marko uses a pick while Geezer plays exclusively fingerstyle.) Geezer Butler is definitely a player you should check out if you're interested in metal. He is, without a doubt, the most influential bassist in metal history, and I think he might be the one person in the world who has inspired the most aspiring musicians to pick up the bass. He plays on 14 of Black Sabbath's 19 albums - 15, if you count the one they relased in 2009 under the name Heaven And Hell (long story). Other quintessential metal acts to check out are definitely the mega legendary Iron Maiden (whose leader happens to be their incredible bassist Steve Harris), Judas Priest, Motörhead, Dio and Metallica. That's from the classic era. If you go even further back in time, you'll find, in addition to Black Sabbath, the likes of Deep Purple (next level songwriting and musicianship), Thin Lizzy and my personal favorites Uriah Heep, who have a poetic, fantasy sort of vibe to their sound and through their long career may have gone through more incredible bassists than any other band. I would also recommend checking out the progressive side of metal: Queensrÿche, the technical super geniuses Dream Theater and of course the mega legendary Rush. Modern day metal? Of course! Besides Nightwish, some of the most prominent bands today include Sabaton, Arch Enemy and Jinjer. I think you might also be interested in Africa's pride and joy on the metal scene, Myrath from Tunisia. Their sound is a combination of technical, progressive, melodic metal and elements from Arabian folk music. Excellent musicians, excellent singer - their popularity in Europe especially just keeps growing and growing. There is lots, lots more to discover in the incredible, and incredibly varied world of metal, but this should keep you busy for a while 🙂

Any Nightwish song is worth listening, but The Greatest Show on Earth is a song that is better to listen (and react) rather later than too soon. And both, Wembley abd Tampere are exellent, but I too prefer Tampere just a little bit over Wembley. I think Gabriel's list is perfekti to follow.
