The third clip looked like a stylized cartoon representation of slap bass - while the audio was finger-style. (The opposite of the South Park clip, which sounded like slap but looked like finger-style.)

@@LeoDreweryMusic yea I can totally see why. Because a lot of there songs are relatively memorable it’s just that you just have to dig deeper down the rabbit hole of Led Zeppelin.

I've actually seen it be done pretty well in some anime, shows like K-On!, Beck and Bocchi the Rock! all do some damn solid jobs imo

You can be sure K-On animates instruments correctly because they try to avoid showing them playing when possible (because animating correctly is costly). Also one rock band chick they worked with had exact B.C. Rich I have lol.

In the south park defence...that kind of slappy tone CAN be achieved with fingerstyle...as long as the strings are fresh and a bit more punch to the notes making them bounce off the board and also a slight pull up to the string...think geezer butler on 13 album for example...but all the cartoons had cool tones to be honest!

On the show Metalocalypse, the band Dethklok were animated to play accurately. Although the 2 guitarists were always zoomed in while playing, I assume the bassist William Murderface was playing accurately as well. 😎

If Murderface played wrong nobody would notice lol. They're MOSTLY right in Metalocalypse, there are some minor animation shortcuts but huge props to the show to animate it all compared to most anime where they try to cut the camera away without showing fingers (it's hard and costly to animate).

You should check out the concert scenes from "Bocchi The Rock!", they used actual footage of a made-up concert and then animated it by hand, it's a pretty nice touch for a music show if you ask me, and well directed as well

In my defence, it was a magical bass guitar!

A good example of it done well is bocchi the rock. They used a lot of rotoscoping of them playing and used 3d models with the instruments and then drew over that.

I've always looked at the playing accuracy of cartoon bass playing. I love how you managed to approximate what they were actually playing. 😊

Actually Homer could have the strings set up differently, for all we know they look te same size and some players do have inverted string order (e.g. MonoNeon, Sonny T. - although these are solely lefty examples, one could imagine someone doing that intentionally ona right-hand bass)

True, but his left hand presses the fret on top string while he fingers the bottom string. That's why the note is open. It's Homer so it fits with character so no complaints here.

The third clip was actually made by a guy I know lol... well, used to know. I've since kind of lost contact with him but we were main members of this one animation community called Communimate. The guy's name is CrayCray but I don't know if he still makes animations too often.

I would say The Simpsons was the most accurate. He wasn't plucking the correct string, but his left hand position was correct. He was playing an A and the note we hear is an A on the low E string. I'm guessing they had him plucking the highest string for visual purposes. Based on his extremely chubby fingers, the small size of the bass, and the confined space of the car, it probably would have looked awkward otherwise.
