It is almost Carnival and in the Basque Country it is the moment when our traditional mythology starts it’s rebirth.
Let me share with you how the world was created according to Basques. Or at least one of the versions.

One of the reasons I like Santa Barbara so much is that she is so adaptable to local versions, all the way from Morocco to Poland and everywhere in-between. And then she expanded into the New World with the explorers, too. And many of those explorers were Basques!

I have a theory on one of the figures in Basque mythology, Akerbeltz. I’m sure you know, but for those that don’t he was a black Billy goat who I guess watched over the animals and overlooked the witchs’ Akelarre ceremonies. My theory is that I believe he is now what most people refer to as Baphomet. From my research, the first time Baphomet was mentioned in history was when the Templars became so rich they made the Pope and King of Spain nervous, so they decided to liquidate the Templars. They had the Templars arrested and accused them of worshipping a new deity named Baphomet and I’m pretty sure the Templars were all executed. This started the inquisition. The thing that makes me think Akerbeltz is Baphomet, is that when the Templars were arrested, they were in northwestern Spain in Basque Country. I have found no documentation correlating Akerbeltz and Baphomet, but the closest thing I’ve found is on Aker’s Wikipedia page where it says “In Christianity, Akerbeltz is considered the live image of the devil, performing sexual abuses against Christians”. There’s also the fact that they’re both black billy goats associated with witchcraft. Kind of sounds like Baphomet to me. What’s your opinion on my theory and conclusion?

I can understand what you are saying, I have never related one to th other, but why not. What I am a bit off with what you are saying is that on the early XIV century, when the Templars ended, Spain was not Spain yet. We have to wait till the XVI century when the old Kingdom of Navarra became part of Spain, and Spain was created. One of the theories of what happened with the end of the templars is that once many templars where captured, others escaped (with the Holy Grail) to a safe kingdom, and that was the Kingdom of Navarra. At that time the queen of Navarra was Queen Juana of Navarra and her husband was Phillipe of France. It is said that the royal couple hated each other and she had a lover who was a Templar. He wanted the power that the Templar had, so he brain washed the Pope to exterminate them...... I love the Templars!

@@Wimmig43at339 The issue is that it is such a mystery the ending of the Templars that depending on what you read it goes one way or another, and I must say that they all make sense. History is different depending who is telling you, for example, for the French Napoleon is a National Hero, while here in Spain he was a dictator. Who is right? who is wrong? I guess we are both right and wrong at the same time.
