Basque Country Spain in 5 Days - Euskadi With Family

We just spent 5 days as a family in Basque Country (Euskadi) which spans both Spain and France. We didn't really have an itinerary or use a travel guide, thats not really our style, but if you want some pointers then maybe you can use this as a "What to do in Basque Country travel guide" for you and your family. Some of the highlights that we saw were we had an amazing time visiting San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, San Sebastian, Bilbao, Bayonne, and Hondarribia. The food scene with pintxos, which are like tapas, is amazing, the countryside is beyond beautiful, and we really love the unique culture.
We fortunate enough to see an amazing festival in Hondaribbia, Subida Calle Mayor Alarde Hondarribia, which was a great way to finish off our trip to Euskadi.
If you're trying to figure out what to do in Basque Country, this travel video can definitely act as a guide and give you some ideas on what to do and what we enjoyed.

Thanks for sharing your trip and thoughts with us, great video! Loved the drone shots. I live in Barcelona and took some days off to explore the Basque country a few months ago. I was also genuinely surprised how green everything is compared to Catalonia which also sits in the North but facing the mediterranean and therefore not receiving as much rain. I went surfing for the first time in a great beach called Sopelana, made it to the interior of the country and its green mountains and stopped for pinxos at Bilbao and Donosti. I had such a great time I'm now considering moving there. What's next for you, guys? Where are you headed next?

You can find this kind of pinchos all around the Spain, maybe you can have a walk in the Austria's zone in Madrid, or old town in Coruña, or El Sardinero in Santander, or Santa Cruz in Sevilla, even in Santa Cruz you can take one pincho for free with all your beverages. The difference is the Basque Country has special rules,, they can keep the pintxos not covered. There’s a very real feeling you get from uncovering where you come from to find out more about who you are. There is so much mystery in the history of all people of Latin America including the Caribbeans, we have a lot we should research about ourselves with us being white, black, and/or native Hispanics/Latinos.

Maybe not so much nowadays, but they were after the French Revolution, moving thousands of people from the french Basque Land to other parts of France, just to loose their language and culture. But we are still alive!!! Euskalduna naiz eta harro nago!!! = I'm Basque and I'm proud of it !!!

I'm from the Spanish part of the Basque Country. From the 40's to the last 70's of the XX century our language and our culture was forbbiden, basque names were forbbiden for children... The Spanish national-catholic goverment tried to aculturized our Country and our people, but we are still here, fighting for our soul as people.

1:35 Your explanation together with that map needs some correction: Basque country is an autonomous comunity (literal translation from Comunidad autonoma) made up by three provinces: Álava,Guipuzcoa and Vizcaya. To the east, there is a whole different Autonomous Comunity (which also has one province of the same name) and that is Navarra (only the north is culturally basque-like) . Then there is Iparralde, or the french Basque Country. All these together are Euskal Herria, the traditional culturally baque nation (nation as in one people and one culture). Geographycally and administratively is different to culturally ''Basque Country''

You mean Euskadi is an autonomous community, not Basque Country (or Euskal Herria - "Basque People" in Euskera, the cultural entity consisting of Hegoalde - Euskadi + Navarra - and Iparralde). We say Pays Basque too in France when speaking of the French part of Euskal Herria and it's not autonomous in the least.

@@19Edurne No, "Basque Country" is perfectly correct. In Spanish it's "País Vasco" and in Basque it's "Euskadi", which both translates to "Basque Country" in English. The fact that another "Basque Country" exists in France doesn't make the above incorrect, lol. No one was talking about the French Basque Country.

@@arianam9977 Euskadi is only the name of the autonomous part of Spanish Pais Vasco including Alava, Guipuzcoa and Vizcaia. It's not the whole Basque Country. To my knowledge, in Euskera, "Pais Vasco" translates as "Euskal Herria" (meaning "the people who speak Basque"), not "Euskadi". And Navarra is also part of Euskal Herria but not of Euskadi. Plus, the French part of Basque Country is not "another Basque Country"; to me, there's only one Basque Country divided in three parts, one of which is in France. So calling Euskadi "Basque Country" is a little bit incorrect in my view; it's reducing the whole to one part.
