    Terrific video helping people starting a worm bin. Everything you touched on was spot on. You do not need fancy worm bins, do not need fancy equipment, do not need to drill holes, do not need lids with screens. Today I treat my worms basically the same way you do, except I now use grow bags. One of the best things I did when I started gardening 4 years ago was starting my worm bin. I firmly believe every serious gardener should raise worms. A good video for you would be to explain all the benefits of worm castings, and the many ways they can be used. I wish I had all this information when I started raising worms 4 years ago. Made every mistake in the book, still goof up once in a while. I totally agree with all the amendments, creating a booming microbial environment for the worms. Anyone asking where to get worms or supplies I will definitely send your way. I had my own business for over 30 years and word of mouth was my best advertising. I wish you and your family all the success you deserve. Have a warm and loving holiday season. Stay Well !!!

    Here in NE Oklahoma we are lucky to have a mushroom farm. The name is J & M farms and is in Miami, OK. You can buy the mushroom compost by the yard. They may sell it by the bag. It’s great for your garden but it’s pretty hot when you first get it. It’s best if you let it set for a season before putting it on your garden. I feed it to my worms just a little bit at a time.

    I'm thinking about starting a compost bin with European night crawlers. I have a toad that will eat them for one. The other is, I use shredded aspen or hemp bedding for my snake enclosures, and was wondering if I can use it in the compost bin as bedding? Since I saw rabbit poop being used by someone in their compost, would snake or gecko poop work too, or does it need to come from an herbivore! I use egg crates and paper towels in my gargoyle gecko and crested gecko enclosures, which get pooped on. It would be cool if I can decrease garbage waste, and provide food for my toad.

    Hey Meme! My name is Lucas, and I'm your neighbor through the woods over in South Carolina. This was a great video with really good information. I'm in the process of building my worm farm, (Worm Wizard Castings). I now have seven hungry bins, and I'm slowly adding on to bring up our capacity. I'm trying to make enough $ selling castings to supplement my wife's teacher's salary. Our local IGA has already told me they would be interested in getting our product in their store. I have a question. How many pounds should we package our castings into? I thought of preparing 2-3 different sizes. Small to larger. Maybe, 5, 10 and 20 pounds??? What would be your advice on this? Thank you for your time. I know it's precious.

  • @MemesWorms

    @MemesWorms

    @redhairedredneck we package ours by volume. The moisture content can make the lbs fluctuate. For this reason we do 12 and three gallon bags. We use millar bags.
