I am so happy I found your videos, - I use watercolors and have discovered for myself the same problems and solutions as you have. I have another reason for it. The human eye is red deficient because red is a weak wavelength, and the eyeball being a lens, shifts all colors closer to the blue wave length. when I learned this I adjusted how I mix my paints and came up with the same results as you have. - and your color wheel shows this.

You’re so right and wish I could show you the hummingbird pic with the vibrant/ electric violet I struggled so hard to achieve and got it close with the quinacridone magenta

I found it a good video. It makes a difference as well whether you mix Flat (mate) or Glos (shiny) color types. It will change the outcome completely even when using the same color set.

To make a purple, I sure have trouble finding just a phthlo blue here in Canada, it’s either red or green shade! Would the red shade work as well for purple and as vibrant? LITERALLY JUST MIXED THAT TOP MIDDLE MUD GREY!!!! I've been banging my head against the wall, had a tantrum after mixing a more pink mud grey and ended up throwing my mixing spatula against the far wall in my studio, threw my hands into the air and walked away. I feel like I've been lied to my entire life!! I even went through interior design schooling and in my color theory I swear THEY DID NOT TEACH THIS!!!! I cannot thank you enough, you have saved me so much money now! Between wasting tons of paint trying to get vibrant purple and repainting walls!! One last thing.... do you know by chance how to get uber NEON colors???? Thank you once again!!!

I’m so glad the video helped! Neons are tough because neon paint has different pigment in it to make it that vibrant. I recommend buying a neon pink or magenta and then testing adding small amounts of different blues to it to get the neon purple you want!

I have a question I recently started an oil painting course so I want to know is Acrylic is the colour which is used for oil painting? Is acrylic a colour brand name?

Red and blue and white

And I would also add white to the magenta and cobalt blue

Can u help me to get purple with poster colur bottles please ...

I have no problem with watercolor. but in acrylic i cannot mix a purple, keeps ending up brown or greyish even with white. i have scarlet, crimson, ultramarine blue, and pthalo blue (doesnt say shade), & cobalt. none seem to work. i also don't really have a flat palette to mix on lol. suggestions what colors to use from those?

You can mix on anything! Use a paper plate or a piece of cardboard. Your blues are great. Your reds are probably too dark and/or too warm. Get a magenta if you can and don’t add white, it will desaturate the color!

How thin can you go with those tubes of acrylic. Thin enough to pass through an airbrush ???

Golden makes fluid acrylic and acrylic inks that I think would be better for an airbrush

Did you say on one of your videos that colors with “light” in their name have white in them? My Golden brand Cadmium Red Light does not list white. I’m just confused.

Anthraquinone/Indantherene blue PB60 gives more brighter purples than ultramarine because in masstone it almost looks purple.

Those were violets not purple

A couple means two, not three. Just saying. Three would be a few. Liked your video though. After all these years, about 50, I've never really tried to mix my own purple. I have a little painting journal that I keep my color mixes in. I'll be making a page or two of purples I've mixed now. Thanks!
