I remember my first, post-tutorial, game of HOI4 feeling hilariously easy. Tutorial was Italy, which felt challenging. I played Germany my first go on my own, and was so totally determined to not repeat the mistakes of IRL Germany I focused almost completely on alliance building... namely rushing for "Berlin Moscos axis" while making sure Italy, Japan, and all the axis minors stayed fascist. I was terrified of antagonizing the Soviets for... historical reasons, lol. That paranoia actually worked out in the end though. When the war started it was pretty much just a giant steamroll followed by a big naval construction grind and an island hoping campaign to Newfoundland from Greenland and then an invasion of the US from there. Soviets turned up in Alaska after that and one really grindy war later the US crapped out. Later played Germany in Berlin-Moscow again, this time with War of the Worlds mod, and crushed the Martians pretty much the same way. I'm convinced that alliance is borderline game-breakingly OP assuming the AI ally actually helps you fight (which is admittedly hit or miss). Anyway, funny bit was feeling all accomplished for winning only to later realize how broken the tactic I'd used was and that it had let me get away with a lot of nooby incompetence in other areas 🤣 Could be either blessed or cursed depending how easy you want your win to be 😆

Just bought the test Dave. Thanks mate, saved me half price. Because the Netherlands is mostly formed by taking land from the North sea. Which gets most of its water form the Atlantic ocean. I am probably +80% Atlantisch and 20% Irish

Japan declaring war on Yugoslavia also happened to me in one of my game, like here, for absolutely no reason, this one of the silly mysteries of HoI 4 I guess

Ah yes, the Berlin-Moscow Axis. This thing became a local joke with my friend. This happend when my friend forced me to play Germany (I never played it, and I never played majors before, 'cause minors are much more fun). I was struggling with it, 'cause I was doing economical focuses instead "normal" focuses. And when I demanded Sudetanland, Britain refused (My friend was on Britain). I declared war on Chechoslovakia, tried to autoplan it, failed and I didn't knew what to do. I was completing focuses that I could. Thats when I saw this cursed focus. My friend asked me what am I gonna do. And I said something like: "I have one more trick up sleeve" or something, and then I completed this focus. When I completed this focus, my friend was shocked, cause he didn't knew this focus existed. Then he made that every democracy in the world declared war on me and the USSR. After that we left the game. We were laughing at this for about a week...

Comrade, I just want to let you know that there is a console command both for ignoring prerequisites, as well as one that allows for no checks. Something like focus_no_checks I sadly don't remember the exact spelling. That way you can complete the focus that requires manpower in the field without actually having it in the field. Just in case. Would save you time, since you wouldn't need to wait as the first nation, if you ever wanted to do something like this again :)

I'm not gonna lie, when Germany came back with the help of the soviet union and had you blocked in behind the alps I thought you were in the bone zone. Good thing you keep that uno reversal card on you.

Here's perhaps one of the strangest requests of a HOI4 game. Play as any nation completely peacefully. You are not invading any nation whatsoever. The only circumstance in which you can fight another nation is if you're being invaded by them. And even then you can't annex or puppet them; your only concern in this situation is to keep them outside your borders through defense. And that is only if conflict erupts, and you should avoid any in the first place as much as possible. Indeed, your ultimate goal as a nation should be internal development through peaceful means with virtually no military involvement. In short, I'm basically asking you to go full Switzerland.

@@gamerdrache6076 Simple fact of the matter is that the test isn't really accurate for countries that border the North Sea as they are all very genetically similar people. Assuming you got Scottish and Irish, that might simply mean you have more genes associated with those peoples compared to the average German. That doesn't necessarily mean you have recent, or even ancient ancestry from Ireland or Scotland. However if you are from the Rhineland it is likely some ancient relation, as that is where the Insular Celts originated, similar to how North Germans often get English despite not having any English ancestors.

yes its nice and interesting to know my familys past but what use is it to know it. it will have zero impact on anything i do, work and play have polish, english and welsh blood in me but it has no real impact on my life knowing it.

50€ for knowing my heritage? smh I'll just spend 20€ on gas by going to real world locations and researching old papers and asking my relatives

The democratic italian path will also be able to annex albania, so being able to do it checks out
