"42" unfairly trashed the reputation of Pirates pitcher Fritz Ostermueller, but aside from that, it was a very enjoyable movie. Very impressive use of CGI to bring back long-gone ballparks like Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds and Forbes Field.

1999 For The Love of the Game. This was Kevin Costner’s third baseball movie. At the time it received mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it. The original story was taken from the novelette written by Jeffrey Shaara (The Killer Angels) which was posthumously published.

I don't judge movies based on reviews. I base them on my opinion.

I think Moneyball might be the best baseball movie ever made. You don't even have to be a baseball fan to enjoy it.

Moneyball is easily my favorite baseball movie. It's about so much more than baseball. Many people are undervalued...

I love Moneyball. I would’ve loved it even more if they at least attempted to retrace history. I get that it’s Hollywood and they do what they do so a wider audience will like it. I guess that most people don’t actually care about historical accuracy when they’re being entertained.

Outside that window since, 61* and 42 would be my picks on a short list, only other movie maybe Money Ball. Prior to that, Herman Munster episode when he plays for the Dodgers, Mr. Ed when he plays for the Dodgers, and Jethro on The Beverly Hillbillies when he plays for the Dodgers. Movies in that era that could be included, Mr Baseball and the Naked Gun

My favorite baseball movie not from this period is a very easy choice: _Everybody Wants Some!!_ Have you perchance watched Patrick Willems' retrospective on why baseball is the best movie sport?

"42", "61*" and "Moneyball" have been my fav baseball films in the last 20 years. Beyond that, IMHO, not many other baseball movies have been enjoyable.

You should start making videos where you cover each season and the world series game. Condensed into about a 10 15 min video. What team started hot and which failed, which players were hot that year, big plays that happened and so on. Maybe release 2 videos a week. One will cover a earlier year in baseball and the 2nd a more modern series. Regardless, keep the videos coming ill be watching them all!

The Stratton Story about White Sox pitcher Monty Stratton who was becoming a star when he had an off-season hunting accident and lost his leg is a good flick. Stars Jimmy Stewart and real players from that era like Bill Dickey and Jimmy Dykes. One of the reasons to see it is the footage of real games from the 30s and 40s, including Joe DiMaggio hitting a home run at Comiskey Park. Think it was made in the late 40s. There were a number of movies from that time period about Dizzy Dean, Grover Alexander, Jim Thorpe, and a very bad one about Babe Ruth. They were all typical Hollywood fare but The Stratton Story stands out.

What I loved about that movie was that the hot-shot prospect they were scouting was a real douche, so they cast an actor named Massengil. (I think it was spelled different, but still.)

Framed this way, it does seem that post free agency and before the 1994 strike there was a golden age. I think they each is a flawed gem but maybe other than Bull Durham there isn't a single great baseball movie, maybe ever. I think boomerish nostalgia has made it hard to build on the return to possibilities of that era. Also labor and social relations have been forgotten. A lack of reasonable representations of the conditions of labor through mid-century have made it impossible to do what this era did. Bingo Long is underrated, perhaps (if too early).

"It happens every Spring"..delightful, politically incorrect romcom featuring Ray Milland and Jean Peters about a ph.d student who can't quite finish his dissertation but discovers a formula that causes balls to avoid wood bats and that puts him on a pace to win 30 games for the St. Louis Redbirds

The Lou Gehrig story and Bull Durham were the best in my opinion I had a dear friend who played minor league baseball and he said Bull Durham was exactly what he went through LOL today's game is boring quite honestly and 90% of the team's will never compete because they simply can't afford to buy free agents. In 2022 barely 10 players in both leagues combined hit 300. Starting pitchers no longer go beyond 5 innings the game is actually very boring and stratified into ridiculous statistics which cannot really measure anything. Baseball needs major Renaissance

I agree. Anyone who thinks DeGrom or Ohtani is a better pitcher than Tom Seaver or Warren Spahn... Never saw Seaver or Spahn.
