The base game Italian focus tree is, in my opinion, the best one for newcomers since it's small and without many wacky alt-history paths. You can grasp easily how the focus trees work without too much information overload.

Yea all he has to do to be number 1 in the world is annex his puppets France and Britain he would be so overpowered, the thing is it would take so long trust me.

As Italy I like to take Ethiopia slow so I can get state serves the military for 35 exp. I use the extra political power to send an attache to Japan and leave him there for the entire war. It really helps your exp and if your airforce has been active in Spain and Asia you can start the war with maxed out variants of all of your planes.

One thing that I'm definitely going to miss from unreworked italy is the ability to swap ideologies freely Basically, with most non focus tree nations, hungary, italy (and the warlords for some reason), and germany in the case of communism, you can appoint advisors freely, and go from fascist, to communist, to democratic, but now it's all done by focus, not decisions, you have to complete a focus to be able to get the advisor, then once you have 40% you take another focus, you switch ideology, that's it, you cant go any other ideology again. It really restricts what you can do in the game, and I really hate it.

You should get the toolpack mod it lets you give states cores and claims to any country it lets you change ideologies or lock it into one ideology you can add manpower or decrease it and tons of other stuff

I don't know if it's too late to say, but I would like to see a world conquest as base-game Italy

This save is pretty strong now. If you want to continue it I'd love to see it but seeing you take other "weak" or "meme" nations and do this would be fun also. This was a really satisfying game to watch, especially the with the naval stuff.

Good format

People underestimate how strong free trade is, just having 1 or 2 resource rich puppets like turkey, yugoslavia or Romania can offset the resource defecits for 1 civilian factory each. Unless you have a crazy industrial base always go free trade.

@@danabendu7294 I tend to, by then if I'm a large nation like Japan or Italy I'll usually have a large puppet like China or the aforementioned countries to supply most of my needs and I won't have to deal with resistance, in addition free trade gives away 80% of your own resources, meaning land you occupy has a lot less value. Aslong as you're self sufficient it is worth it to keep, if it's hamstringing your industry then get rid of it, but usually a puppet can account for that.

Italy going for the Roman Empire thing makes them imo the strongest nation in the game. But it's tricky to get

I played a democratic italy with superheavy tank meta and i survived all 6 years of ww2 against the germans only for germany to declare on the soviet even though they had no troops on the border so i got nothing in peace deal

I like to go airpower and carriers with italy.

It is pretty overpowered. I just recently formed Rome, then a Super EU (cores on all of the Roman Empire plus Germany), and it wasn't all that difficult. Challenging yes, but not hard.

When you talk about AI and Italy in the same sentence, all i can think of is that time in a game i played where Italy did every other focus in its tree before triumph in Africa. The AI is something truly awesome to behold

Small tip: if you puppet Ethiopia you can skip the "Triumph in Africa" focus, plus Ethiopia has a custom name if it's puppeted by Italy, it's called "Italian East Africa".

Every game I play as US, Italy takes Cairo before I can even get in the war. Historically they failed in almost every campaign. The opposite is true in-game. The game just has too many advantages given to the Axis.

Somehow you avoided having the Brits jump in when you declared war on Yugo - that certainly helped. I guess you squeaked in on that one early enough and Germany paid the world tension penalty. Well done. You might make me a believer in carriers..

The idea that Italy is trash in hoi4 is at least historically accurate. They were an incompetent ally, toward the end they caused more harm than good.

When I do Italy, I invade Spain as soon as their civil war is over. They're rather weak at that point so it goes fast. Makes taking Gibraltar trivial. I then help Germany work through Northern Europe and eventually naval invade Scotland from Norway.

I take out France before mid 1937 and after UK with their ships help. After that is just easy to win everyone else with Germany on your side.

Everytime I do Italy after i get claims on Yugoslavia I justify and declare war on Yugoslavia while the French guarantee is still active. I hold my border with a few cavalry divisions. I then land with 4 paratroopers on Dieppe because 3/5 they dont have anything there. Oh, and of course by that time i already joined the Axis. I send most of my army in there and push. Usually with this strat you can conquer yugoslavia, romania and France by 1938

I justify on Greece invade them call Bulgaria to the then kick them from the faction so I can take them and Romania in the peace deal

Love the extra confidence you show when you don't use face cam, you probably feel quite a lot of pressure from thousands of people watching you. I struggle in class presentations, which is only in front a couple dozen of people.

I have done a very similar play through. Italy for WW2 feels way to strong.

Not really, it's only strong in a player who knows what they are doing hands but currently Britain and France are each stronger when done by a player of equal skill.

This should not be finished until the world is taken over! Even your allies.

I don't know about the carrier play, Italy and kick some serious butt with some decent Cruisers.

Meanwhile my Italy game yesterday results in me destroying the british in the med and North Africa within a year. Then I look up to France, and Germany is at 1.2 million casualties stuck in the Benelux cycle charging into fortified lines having lost their entire airforce...

Finally someone sees how good italy is base, i like their focus tree in signleplayer as it allows you to rush a lot of production of navy military civ industry and a research slot which makes it actually very useful. For multiplayer however it definatelly needs a rework, it simply doesnt work especially late game

I vote for you to continue this... It'd be very interesting to watch a rambler world conquest.
