➡️ video Description:
Thought-provoking journey and philosophical insights of Baruch Spinoza.
i explore Spinoza's unique perspective on the relationship between God and nature.
Spinoza challenges conventional notions of freedom, free will, and the very essence of existence. We unravel his ideas about the divine, where God is not a distant, judgmental being but an integral part of the universe, intricately connected to nature.
Discover the concept of freedom in Spinoza's philosophy - a freedom that lies in understanding oneself and aligning with one's true nature. We explore how knowing our potential and purpose may be the path to liberating ourselves from the #deterministic forces that govern physical existence.
Join us in contemplative conversations that dive deep into Spinoza's wisdom. Together, we ponder life's fundamental questions, aiming to become more aware of our own existence and the world around us and the idea that understanding your own potential and identity is the key to achieving this freedom.

Thank you for your excellent podcast, giving us an overview of the importance of Spinoza's philosophy. As a student of Spinoza's philosophy, I have studied Spinoza's Ethics extensively, and I believe to really understand Spinoza, you must live his ideas. I have more than a theoretical concept. After 40 years of work, I now teach, mentor, and coach those who want to live, understand, and love as Spinoza did.

I agree with Spinoza about the rampant anthropomorphism of God in the Old Testament. As for whether or not "desire" is beneath God, it seems to me, that God desiring for us to love him just as he loves us, ought to be okay, from a divine perspective.

I tend to agree with Spinoza's conception of God. God is perfect and infinite, and above the petty emotions, foibles, attributes and tendencies of human beings. The concept of God as characterzied in the Abrahamic religions is therefore misguided.

I think Spinoza was correct! Even in the Bible it says: "I the Lord do not change" and Brahman in Hinduism is changeless and the origin of all things. Personally I see reality as Indra's net without the "jewels". That's an infinite complete graph. And the manifested reality can be seen as a changeless subgraph of Indra's net with infinite intelligence. Time is produced because infinity can never be reached.

COMMENT. Philosophy is a product of idle mind. We take birth, live and die devoting each minute in the phase we are sailing in. Where is the question then, what was before and what is after, which any way is not going to impact our mind or body - the only dimensions we perceive ? Just unnecessarily creating other dimensions and trying to pose questions and imagine solutions which are any way not going to help us in day to living, earning our bread and shelter ? Spinoza's concept of God as a unified substance that encompasses everything in existence might seem divergent from the anthropomorphic deity depicted in traditional religious texts. However, Spinoza's aim is not to negate the Tanakh but to offer a philosophical reinterpretation that reconciles reason with faith. In his view, God's "will" is not akin to human volition but rather unfolds through the natural laws governing the universe.

@@Mindful_Philosophy It is true that the laws of nature and creation are the expression of God's will, but as a Jew, Spinoza learned the Bible, and in the Bible, the founding fathers of the nation of Israel, and the prophets, reveal to us the will of God, not only in nature, but specifically what God expects from human beings as individuals, and as a nation. I find it very strange that Spinoza speaks of the attributes of God while simply ignoring the prophesies of the Bible, and the dialogue between God and humans. God revealed Himself to Abraham and Moses for a purpose. Of course God has a will.

@hemdanissan9289 in Spnoza's view, God's will is not anthropomorphized or contingent upon individual human interactions as depicted in biblical narratives. FORHIM God's will is expressed through the immutable laws of nature, which govern the universe in a rational and deterministic manner. So Spinoza suggest that ppl make God according to their reason, experiences and understanding. Now. Is all of this what he talks about God, which is of course different from general opinion, isn't it a projection of Spinoza's limited perception, reasoning and understanding? Or... these features of Spinoza were unlimited? Cause if they were limited than his critique about anthropomorphic mistake while thinking of God is against himself.

but to Spinoza, God and Nature are one and the same (Deus sive Natura). This means that God is not a personal, anthropomorphic entity, but rather the underlying reality and order of existence itself. So, even though humans may have anthropomorphized God, Spinoza’s idea of God is more about understanding the natural order and the interconnectedness of everything in the universe.

Of course God has a will, a desire and He revealed his will through the Bible. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands[b] of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. 8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. 12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. 13 “You shall not murder.[c] 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.”

@@gerryhanly3194 The Bible spends a great deal of time talking about the other false Gods, that people worshipped. They were false!! You saw no form of any kind the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully,16so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman,17or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air,18or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below.19And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars--all the heavenly array--do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the LORD your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.20But as for you, the LORD took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are.

I too was enamored of Spinoza for years until I realized that he knew nothing of real life. He died a forty-four-year-old virgin.

Why should he have cared about sleeping around with women when he could dedicate his life on writing Ethics? I would trade half my life to become a genius if I could to produce a great work for humanity. Perhaps, the world need more virgins like Newton and Spinoza than people like Casanova.

@@IvanKaramazov-zv6mn Not "sleeping around," silly. Baruch, who was indeed an unparalleled genius as some of us have noted (and whom I still love), never knew the joys of sex. He never knew the responsibilities of marriage and fatherhood. There's an old expression, which I believe comes from the Zohar: "A man without a woman is half-a-man."
