Yeah Voiceplay's latest video is Hellfire from Hunchback Of Notra Dame. They have done a lot of Disney songs (we dont talk about bruno, little mermaid medley, moana medley, friends on the other side etc) also musicals stuff like Wicked Medley and If I was a Rich Man. Pop stuff, viking stuff, metallica, they tackle a wide variety of genres and styles.

What gets to me about Voice Play is their ability to harmonize while singing in a character voice. This video was my introduction to Voice Play. Welcome to the rabbit- hole, it's a fun and comfy place.😃

Absolutely. It's really stellar that they are so good at harmonizing in character. There's plenty of professional across that can't manage it. These guys managed to sound good and silly at the same time. A very interesting mix

My favourite parts in this are the sound of a broken bone, the way “tears” moves through the earphones, Geoff’s descending scale (?) right after the ,”to add a little spice” line and Eli, J None and Earl’s (especially Earl’s ) cartoonish vocals and Geoff’s deep to higher on ,”You ain’t goin nowhere!” Santa does a good job looking scared too

I have watched so many reactors watching this, and I'd never heard anyone notice the lighting for Santa. Fascinating insight; thank you for pointing it out.

They definitely do some classic Disney songs. Little Mermaid (medley), Once Upon a Dream, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Friends on the Other Side, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, ... oh, and Geoff did Bare Necessities with several copies of himself. And yeah, Hellfire is quite dark. It would however be a mistake to ignore their other (non-Disney) work. Things like Mountain King, Drunken Sailor, Valhalla Calling, Dream On, Rich Man, and Tennessee Whiskey are well worth experiencing.

Santa was played by Geoff's brother-in-law, but the voice was Eli, the bald tenor. He is a voice actor on the side, I wish I knew some of the work that he's done. I second In the Hall of the Mountain King!

Eli is an amazing singer with a beautiful rock voice. He gets more playroom in "Hoist The Colours", which is one of my favorite VoicePlay performances ever. It's insanely good.

If you become a patron, you can watch their behind the scenes stuff, and YES, they absolutely have a blast while filming their videos! J None (I think he's portraying Barrel? the black baritone) is always laughing, dancing, and being silly. They're such a joy both on and off screen :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Voiceplay! I think one of the most amazing things is that they do almost everything themselves - they do bring in extra camera operators when needed, Rick Underwood is responsible for any more advanced makeup/prosthetics and the genius that is Ed Boyer does their final audio mix (as he does for Home Free and PTX amongst others), Geoff (the bass) and Layne (the beatboxer) split arranging duties, although Eli (Ellie) has done a few, including their recent cover of 'Creep', he's also responsible for the lighting and CGI backgrounds on some tracks (notably My Mother Told Me and Valhalla Calling, their Viking-themed covers). Earl (the bearded high tenor) left in 2020, J. None (the black dude) is currently singing with the US Navy, but returns to join them whenever he is on leave, Cesar is their newest member - he first appeared in 'We're Good' and 'If I were a Rich Man/Girl'. They often bring in a guest for some covers, especially for some of the Disney ones, where it really needs a female voice (Rachel Potter, Ashley Diane and Adriana Arellano have done several with the guys!). Geoff has his own channel - you've already reacted to his latest, but other 'spooky' covers from him are 'The Headless Horseman', 'Ghost Riders In The Sky' and 'Monster Mash' - Geoff and VP always bring it on Halloween, you saw a bit of 'This Is Halloween' in the outro - another really great one, with some amazing makeup/effects! Layne and Tony Wakim (former VP baritone) co-own Pattycake Studios, where a lot of their videos are made - Pattycake also have their own 'Villains Lair' series here on YT - well worth checking out! 😊Oh, and subscribed for more VP and Geoff..!!

Geoff does add bridges and lines on some songs... we honestly are waiting for him to write songs for them. Sounds like the altos suffer the same as the baseline in band... we are there but not. PS, as a member of Geoffs Patreon... he is finishing on dropping an audiobook for Halloween.

Okay - not especially Halloween, but since you so like 'bass', I'm going to suggest you check out VoicePlay's 'viking' oriented songs. At least they are in costume? In "My Mother Told Me" Geoff basically impersonates a warhorn. But you'll also get a better idea of the other members' voices. In "Valhalla Calling" Geoff is singing some of the lowest stuff we've ever heard from him, while Eli (rhymes with jelly, wearing all red in this song) hits an incredible rock tenor vibe! Layne (Beatboxer) is pretty unreal at points. And J None (here in the skeleton shirt) has a great moment in it too. He has left the group, but he does come back as featured artist relatively often. The last guy in 'Valhalla' is the newest guy in the group, Cesar. If you do "Hellfire" you'll see him there.

Wanna watch an uncommon Halloween video by them? Hilarious and kinda creepy? No words, but a LOT of storytelling? 😁 Try "In the Hall of the Mountain King". An instrumental, orchestral piece of music by Edvard Grieg, from his "Peer Gynt". Maybe you don't know it by name (I noticed that many don't), but you'll recognise it as soon as it starts. It's so creative, fun, silly, theatrical, and beautiful. It's been one of their two Halloween releases for last year (the other one was a "Haunted Mansion" themed version of "Ding dong - Hide and seek", featuring Lauren Paley... Another great song). 🙂 And though they own Halloween, their non-Halloween productions are IMHO their best. They cover pretty much all genres, so you can choose whatever song that catches your attention from their catalogue and be sure you're in for a treat. Their "normal" voices are something to get lost into. 🙂 And they always let some of their sense of humour spill here and there in their videos. 😅 Give a look at their version of "Golden hour"... You'll get what I mean. 🙂 Just subscribed in anticipation of more of them and Geoff. See you next time!

I'll look into some of that for sure! I do know 'in the hall of the mountain King'. It gets stuck in my head regularly. It would be interesting to hear it from these guys though. And I didn't know they did something with the ding dong hide and seek lady! I saw a bunch of her videos ages ago, but watching a collab seems right up my alley

I watched this after seeing your rection to Geoff's "Jack's Lament." You're great! When you said you were not only appreciative of, but actually SAN a cappella, it made me wonder why you haven't "expanded" your fan base by reacting to groups in that genre. You would not only be amazed, but you would have an "insider's perspective" that would be really great to hear! Best of luck!

One of the things I had not noticed, but another reactor pointed out, is that the BGV’s’s are echoing the lyrics. When Geoff is singing ”this will be the last song you’ll ever hear”, the BG these are singing “this… may … be…the…last… song” instead of the more typical ooohs and aaahs. (Maybe that would have made your days as an alto less boring 🤣🤣.) Since then I have tried to pay attention and they do it a lot. In “This is Halloween” it was especially apparent to me. Although they are serious musicians, they do have a lot of fun while they’re filming. Three of them (Geoff, Layne and Earl ) have been singing together since they met in middle school. They put out their first album under another group name in 1997 after graduating high school. And Eli (pronounced to rhyme with jelly, who was the little demon in red) joined them around 2010. So they’ve been together for an awfully long time and have great times together. All of them in this particular lineup have worked for Universal and/or Disney in some wayso theatricality comes very easy to them. In addition Eli and Earl, the two tenors, have both done voice acting. I’m not sure about everybody else although Geoff does do amazing narrations, but they’re usually creepy things so I can only listen to them in the daytime. This one was arranged by Layne , the beatboxer, and he really pushed Geoff to sing that last note. It’s the first time they had used a subharmonic in one of their videos. Geoff and Layne do about 90-95% of the arrangements. Eli has co-arranged a few of them and has arranged two on his own so far. (He’s also the tech wizard.) But Layne tends to push Geoff further and also feature him more. If you look at the credits you’ll see that whoever arranges it pretty much does it all: storyboard, video, venue, costumes, video edit, initial audio edit, arranging for make up if necessary. They are self produced and most of it falls on the shoulders of the arranger. They do have a production manager - it is Kathy, Geoff’s wife.

My daughter was an alto (because of voice, not shortage) and there was a definite split between altos and sopranos, with the former seeing the latter as hogging all the best lines! Her best friend was a soprano, but luckily the rift was good-natured. I look forward to more VP & Geoff reactions!

I was a Soprano 2/Alto while in acapella choir my senior year of high school (S2 when we had sections with three female vocal parts, alto when there were only two) and I was the exact opposite: I loved being the "support" voice. Without us and the bass singers (and we did not have a lot of those), the sopranos and tenors would not have sounded anywhere near as good as they did. Imagine a band without drums and/or procession. They would sound terrible. Without the support voices, the solos would never sound as good. Revel in your power.
