VP has the widest genre range of all the a capella groups. That is because they are 1) talented beyond reason, 2) are independent and can follow their own creative road and they 3) have theatrical prowess. What is not to like? Please do a deep dive!! So many roads to go down - a very adventurous 🐇hole. Choose your genre and go for it. They have so many fantastic creations - personally, they have never, ever disappointed. Thanks for the reaction! 🌹🕊

This is why as a voice play community love to vicariously live through the reactions, unbelief, and sheer joy that hearing these incredibly talented performers brings. It is incredibly difficult to try and assimilate, technicalities and musical capabilities while watching it for the first time. It takes multiple times over multiple watches to disseminate and dissect the talent and passion the voice play has. then to top it all off the amount of fun that they have during it just brings a smile to everyone who sees it.

While Geoff arranged Nothing Else Matters, Layne (beatboxer, or Zero in this video) arranged this masterpiece. Layne tends to push his performers a little more than Geoff, and since he and Geoff have known each other since middle school (I think?), he often pushes Geoff to hit new highs or lows. In this song, the original ending note was supposed to go back up the octave, but Layne asked Geoff for a "big finish", and so Geoff gave us the subharmonic E1 for the final note. If you'd like to see how VoicePlay got their theatrical start, try Phantom of the Opera - the outro even mentions that it's a departure for them, being more theatrical. It's got one of the earlier version of VoicePlay, with a member (Tony Wakim) you haven't seen yet, and with one of their frequent guest artists, Rachel Potter.

VoicePlay fans love a good deep dive, whether it's on the vocals, the arrangement, the production; anything to further examine the many, many, *many* things that make VoicePlay such an astonishingly great group. The guys always give credit where it's due on their video and audio productions, so you can always check out the details of each video for the specifics of various studios they shoot at, or if they subcontract out any particular camera work. It will also reveal how hands on they are with their projects; generally Geoff or Layne (vocal percussion) create the arrangements and shoot/edit the video, although Eli (bald rock tenor) has also provided a few arrangements that are also stellar. Eli does nearly all of their video lighting work, as well as CGI work (particularly in Unreal Engine). If you want to see some of their more tech-heavy videos, check out their cover of Enemy by Imagine Dragons (pretty great greenscreening, considering their feature was in South Korea when the video was shot), or their most recent release, Sleeping In the Cold Below (from the video game, Warframe). For that last one, I have two words: LED tiles. So freakin' cool'.

this is probably the video that most reactors start with for VoicePlay, as it features Geoff's amazing range. Don't worry about making sense when you watch this one, because no one that I've seen has been able to make much sense without composing themselves for a moment. Now that you've seen why VoicePlay's fans are so happy watching reactors try to make sense of life while watching them, take a moment and figure out where you would like to go next. I'm not certain of your musical tastes, but there's probably something for you. Just pull open the VoicePlay's channel page and scroll through their videos. They even have a few videos showing how they arrange things. If you're in their Patreon, they have behind the scenes videos that go deeper into their process.

Ginx, don't forget to breath, LOL. You met Geoff, Layne and Eli in your first reaction. J.None was a guest in that, he is a full member here, before leaving to join the Navy. The other guy here is longtime member Earl Elkins Jr, he left just before J. None did. As you see , they also covered "This Is Halloween". One of my favorites is their cover of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto. Geoff also has covers on his channel. "16 Tons", 'Ain't No Sunshine" , and "Big Bad John" are a few.

I do pro audio work, play several instruments, and have a 6 octave vocal range.... when I watch VoicePlay, I tend to not think straight for the first listen, lol. They always just kill it on so many different levels, that even being knowledgeable enough to understand what and how they did it, it all slips my mind when checking out something new from them. And, I used to hate a cappella AND theater. VoicePlay just makes those two things something different. For me, with VoicePlay, it's all about the creative process more than anything... since anyone has access to the technology nowadays.

Voiceplay also did... What's This?.... This is Halloween... Kidnap The Sandy Claws from Nightmare Before Christmas. They have tons of other videos to choose from as well. All fantastic. Geoff has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments. He clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. Each with their own name... Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. The first 3 got their names in his video... Way Down.... when he portrayed 3 janitors and a supervisor. Daryl got his name in his video... Ghost Riders In The Sky. For Halloween last year he did... Jack's Lament from Nightmare Before Christmas. Voiceplay's new video is ... Sleeping In The Cold Below. It is a fantastic space shanty. Geoff's new video is.... Wicked Game. It is absolutely beautiful. So many on both channels to choose from because all are fantastic. The first video I saw of Geoff's is... Ain't No Sunshine. The first I saw of Voiceplay's is.... Dragonborn Comes Skyrim.

They're 4 bass singers like Geoff, and have a huge genre range😊 The vid I'd recommend the most to start with would be Bones, or Gaston! I strongly recommend Geoff’s cover of jacks lament. they all are very talented and I’d love to recommend so many songs that show each of their amazing voices but if you’re into the bass voice, Geoff is the gateway in to loving all of their voices individually. I also recommend their cover of creep, it shows their newer member ceaser voice so nicely. Layne the beatboxer has a very lovely voice they have a few covers where he sings but gosh the talent is overwhelming at times (in a good way) I’m so glad you wanna deep dive! I’ll definitely stick around for that

I’m so glad that you enjoyed this. And I’m glad it wasn’t your first exposure to them because it used character voices which is a little misleading if that’s your first view. They did four from the movie as a group and in October Geoff did a spectacular version of Jack’s Lament. Because you have so much experience, you might consider occasionally doing some things that another reactors do/did. One reactor had already seen this so he did an analysis. He covered his monitor so he couldn’t be distracted by what was happening visually. He picked up things that he had not noticed before. A few reactors have a two-step process . The first time through he just reacts. Then after a few moments to absorb everything he re-watches it pausing at certain points and sharing what he is observing. We get the benefit of both, and so does he. He gets to thoroughly enjoy the video in its entirety. And then he gets to share his expertise with us. Some of those reactions can last close to an hour and many of us subscribe due to this way of reacting. Reactions from people with musical experience are so instructive to people like me with zero musical training, so share what you can. If you are going to do a deep dive, you might consider doing some older ones as well as newer ones. You can really see their growth not only in production values but the risks that they take with their arrangements. The last few years they have just exploded. Because they do such a wide variety of genres you might flip between a more serious or non-theatrical version and then switch to something more lighthearted or more theatrical. Don’t worry about the fact that you may feel little tongue-tied at times. One reactor, while viewing Hoist the Colours (a theatrical masterpiece- one of my favorites) jumped out of his chair, forgetting that he was only wearing his boxers! A few varied styles with this lineup would be: Queen in 5 Minutes, True Colors (no percussion), Daddy Sang Bass, Warriors (J plays a bit of violin as well as a full performance by VioLayne), Tennessee Whiskey and Trapped (Billie Eilish medley) to be followed by the two-part Panic at the Disco videos. There are others but that’s what I could remember at the moment.😂

GREAT reaction!! This was the first VoicePlay exposure for many of us! It is SO fun and SO engaging!! They do everything really well! With your enchantment with Nightmare, you really should check out Geoff's solo work "Jack's Lament." I think it is his best work to date (which is really saying something!). For theatrical expressions, you might like Golden Hour. With these guys, all you need do is look at their extensive song list and pick something that jumps out at you! There are two viking-themed pieces that most of us LOVE... My Mother Told Me (earlier/first) and Valhalla Calling (recent/second). Two of MY favorites are "Hoist the Colors" and "We Don't Talk About Bruno." Then again, I would have a really hard time listing my top ten from VoicePlay. Top 50 would be a LITTLE easier. Top 5 depends on my mood when you ask. You get the point.... they are fantastic!

I know you love watching Jeff Castalucci. I highly recommend watching his cover of Sixteen Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford. He is a "solo" in that video. I also recommend a different artist if you like the opposite end of the tone spectrum, react to Morrisette Amon. She is a Phillipino singer and she also has 5 octave range but on the top end. She does a beautiful cover of Never Enough but if you want to see her top end either react to her original Akin Ka Na Lang OR react to her cover of I wanna know what love is by Foreigner. She is amazing also.

I'm able to watch longer videos, staying focussed and try to learn more from the creator. 😆 I enjoy every reaction to VP (and Geoff, too), but analyses are 'next level'. There are some professional musicians who do reaction & analysis videos and I like every single one of them, because of their individual and unique professional POV. The range of creators varies from instrumentalists, music (theory) teachers up to opera singers - and so their analyses have other key aspects. I really would like to learn from your perspective.🥰

I think you should definitely be doing technical analysis. It will be one more thing to set your channel apart. There are a whole lot of reactors out here in the vast internet ocean. Some sink, some float and some can build cruise ships and take people on tours. Those who float like you do have personality, they're engaging and interesting. But having a skill set that translates to your channel really ought to be utilized to keep leveling you up. I'm excited to see where you go next, for Voiceplay and more. A couple of popular suggestions for your next ones are Skyrim/The Dragonborn Comes and In The Hall Of The Mountain King. You will ❤❤❤ those.

Thank you! I love this analogy and I certainly will have a deep dive series, and am super excited. They will definitely take more time and research so might shoot for 1 or 2 a month☺️

There are a few good vocal analysis channel [and a lot of crappy ones]. Having a channel that looks at the production would be a change of pace. Look at their "watch us arrange a song" video to see them put together a short! For their over-the-top stage production numbers I would suggest "Hall Of The Mountain King" or "Ding Dong [Hide And Seek]".

At the 5:03 time mark of your video that little bit of bass guitar you hear is Geoff. Thought as an auudio engineer you might like to self review that portion of your video.Geoff does much more bass guitar in "i will survive" by voiceplay.

You started going down the Rabbit Hole. So a Deep Dive is very acceptable. Once you find 1 amazing thing, you are probably going to find 10 more. Have fun. That is the purpose of a deep dive, in my opinion, anyways. LOL. GREAT Post.
