Barry McGuire - Lighten Up side 1

This is the first side of Barry McGuire's Lighten Up album. It's a direct from record transfer, so you get all the pops, clicks, and at least one skip. If you like this, go to Barry's website - I think he has a clean disc on CD.

The year this album came out (1975) I had just become a Christian in West Germany. Vietnam ended as Afghanistan is in the news today. Many young lives were burnt out from the 60's and 70's sex, drugs and rock n roll culture. Barry said he saw numerous friends and fellow rockers die of drug overdoses. A Jesus people revival broke out and many of our life's were changed, not from churchianty but a real, heartfelt experience! McGuire and (Keith) Green still ring true in my life. I thank God for them and others who were passionate for Jesus! God do it again!🙏🙄

Hey met Barry when i was a little boy not sure exactly but think the concert we went to was 76. After concert he hung around and played us the unfinished version of bullfrogs and butterflies. Was super cool dude. Helped shape my childhood listening to his music!

Today's Christian music seems more like entertainment when I hear this. Saw Barry back when this came out. Dem was da days.

I think it was around 1989, Barry McGuire was on a radio talk show. I called in and got him laughing when I told him the story about a mishap with this album In the early 80s, "You re one touch cookie. I had some albums in hand getting out of my roommate's car when this one fell out of the jacket, landing squarely in a mud puddle. I wasn't pleased. I took it into the kitchen and tried to wash off this grainy mud. I put it on the stereo. If there were any scratches, I couldn't hear them. It was clear as a bell." I met him in 2007. He is a total teddy bear, one of the sweetest people around. It reminded me of what Jesus said, "He who is forgiven much loves much." We're all forgiven much. A lot of people just don't realize how much. You can hear it in his voice. Anyone notice that the 2nd Chapter of Acts is singing backround vocals?

Barry was always the Angry Young Man, even when he was playing Jesus music. he has put up a new version of eve of destruction, I saw it up here a few weeks ago. Totally angry...

Having met Barry at a small group conference several years ago, I can tell you he is the real deal !! I was a fan of Barry's in the 60's with his sometimes "angry" music and was surprised and sceptical when I heard he had become a Christian in the early 70's. I had also come to faith in Christ and was amazed that God could ever change Barry. I was so happy to find out Barry's deep faith and changed life and then to meet him over 30 years later and see him still excited in the faith. John Williams

@@WHSclass1969 I have met him several times in the late 70s at various churches. He even played his guitar in an angry fashion. If he broke a string he would yank it out and keep going. I wish I could have seen that show where he was with second chapter of acts, The one that they recorded for the double live album. But apparently that was just a one time event. I’m glad they documented it. His stories in between the songs are what interested me, especially his dolphin story. Look up his latest version of eve of destruction and read the lyrics that he added... it was posted within the last couple of years. It’s a totally new recording and he added some very appropriate lyrics

His newer arrangement of "Eve of Destruction" is horrific. So dragged out. What were he and his producer thinking?
