A game with a box that's slightly too small?? What a time to be alive.

I'd rather have that than a box that's too big with tons of empty space.

I think a box that’s a bit too bug is preferable actually. That is, if and only if they want to release expansions

I fit the expansion content in the same box, so I think the box size is kind of perfect.

Probably the best game I’ve backed on Kickstarter. The expansion Black Market makes the game better in everyway.

Pretty cool, The theme idea is like a video game called Moonlighter

Or the other way around, because BQ came out before Moonlighter. They're both based on Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale anyway

great game, played it last night and had a ball :) The only gripe we have (and it's very minor) is that the card backs are quite bland, and difficult to distinguish from one another (ie item vs hero cards the backs are way too similar). But the game is well designed, it flows very well and is very engaging and fun. Can't wait to see on the table again! :D

If an adventurer dies you loose 1 point, but if the others come back with just 10 gold and you get to attract an adventurer with 25 gold on them then you've basically made a point and a half over the other players. Yeah, there's luck, but loosing an adventurer is often an opportunity as much as a detriment... Though you do have to draft well to pull it off ofcourse

Love this game! Played tonight at the library with 8 players. It was less chaotic and crazy than I thought it would be, was great fun. Everybody keeps asking me to bring the game back again. We did house rule out where if you run out of heroes you lose, because with 8 players we definitely needed to reshuffle in the hero deck. Although I haven't added in promos/ expansions to the deck yet, so that may not be an issue for long.

My only issue with the game is that the backs of the item cards and the hero cards are too similar. Unless there's really good lighting they can be hard to distinguish - and if someone has eyesight issues it might be too close.

I thought this too at first but the size of the decks and the positioning you can have on the table does address this but you're not wrong.

a smaller box means a smaller price though from less cost to manufacture ?

I like the idea, but we already have (and love) Boss Monster, and this is similar enough that I don't think it would make it to the table.

A little luck? Every game I have played is just player begin drafting. One players lucks into the best card. Drafting ends, player who lucked into best card gets the best hero and makes the most money. Rinse, repeat.

This game would be way better if the monster beat too many heroes the game is over and nobody wins. This way the shop owners need to reason with each other to make sure they don’t all lose before someone can win.

I cannot fathom the inclusion of that fate deck. It’s gotta be the most Ameritrash thing I’ve seen, and I HATE that term.

I don't hate it but on top of the luck, it seems a little unsatisfying to resolve combat that way. I think I would prefer something a pair of D6 with custom faces to replicate the game's chance to adjust final stats. It doesn't remove the luck element, but at least it would feel a bit like RPG combat.

M1st3rB3nn are there any ways in-game to change your fate? Card/helpers?

  • @M1st3rB3nn

@@BMVfilms (I should say I've only watched the game on KZread and done some dry runs in Tabletop Sim to get familiar with the rules as of now.) There aren't any direct ways to affect or react to the fate card because it's the last thing that affects your hero's stats when the combat breaks out. It does feed into the other game mechanics though, i.e. you can over-equip your hero to provide insurance versus a bad card, take a risk with a low stat and hope for some help, and so on. Also if not everyone lands a hit in combat, in the following round you might only need to score 2 hits between 4 players, so people might get tempted to minmax their scoring and let other people score the hits, and so on. So even though the mechanic is quite light, some game theory can kick in sometimes all the same. Overall the way the mechanic is designed does lead to some random swings of luck... but it just makes that part of the game have an 'enjoy the ride' feel where a few heroes getting slaughtered is part of the fun. It's just a bit mechanically light, where after the indepth drafting and shopping phase, the combat is a relatively quick comparison of numbers.

The rules I have (think they were updated on a second reprinting) say using the adventure (fate) deck is completely optional, so if you don't like luck/randomness, there is an option to play without it.

Just don't use it. If it makes the game less for you, just don't use those cards. It doesn't unbalance the game at all. The rules even say they are optional. So why are you complaining about it?
