    Great review. I love my M27s. I do mixing and mastering for a living and they really changed a lot for me. BUT It would not work as smooth, as it does, without my APS Coax´s and NS10s. My monitorcontroller has a module, so it can work with the Barefoot MEME control and that just makes it even better :) Love following your channel. Thanks for all the video´s :)

    They sound much better if you remove the emulator box from the signal chain - just a/b them and you'll see how much that little device impacts the clarity of the signal.

    Absolutely love my gen 1 MM27 - picked them up second hand about a year ago and use them for tracking and mixing at my studio. I can't say enough how huge a step up they are from anything I've worked on previously (genelec, adam, dynaudio). The bottom end is massive so it is easy initially to get things wrong when mixing. I've found using them in conjunction with a pair of NS10s is a great combination. By far the best I've had the opportunity to work with overall.

    We use the Gen 1s in our studio (tracking, mixing). The sweet spot is pretty far back. I do find that I go to the NS-10s when eq'ing vocals and getting balance. The Barefoots are great for reverb tails, and low end. They are quite bright. First project turned out a little dark because of this. Great review, thanks.

    Streaky, When you speak of "Smear" what are you describing? Smear is electrically time domain based IIRC, and I am wondering if it is this you are hearing, or some other soundstaging issue that is unpleasant. Have you ever enjoyed any coaxial designs that were time aligned? Thank you!

    Funny, I have Barefoots at work and One18s at home. Freaking LOVE my One18s! The Barefoots I work on are the MM35 Gen 2 though... and they're pretty great, but the room is a little muddy right now. I'm curious to see how my feelings may change once I get some more treatment up soon. As of now, the One18s kill the Barefoots in terms of clarity and image.

    Again, very surprised by your review! I know that we all hear differently, but I have to raise some points. First, you have loved the Footprint01s that have the same DNA & Barefoot sound than the MM27 that are the very first pair Barefoot has commercialized and became famous for. It's might be interesting to point the fact that all Barefoot speakers have closed cabinets and sealed compartments. In contradiction of 99.99% of the speakers, they don't generate any sound inside the cabinet. The transients generated inside, have to cross the cabinet before heating your ears. The reason the low ends are that accurate on Barefoots is because you hear the full transient start to end, they are not planned like with other speakers. They are VERY accurate, most customers describe them as magnifying glasses that reveal the mix. You rediscover the mixes with those babies! Of course, and as usual, you need to take the time to get used to them as they are a big step ahead from your usual speakers, whatever they are. And it can be nice to know what's your monitoring chain? Have you also noticed that the mix doesn't change whatever the listening level? Usual speakers must be used at 87dB as they offer their best transcription at that level. While on Barefoot speakers you can here the full spectrum at a whispering level. If your room is not well treated or has acoustical issues, you can use them at a pretty close distance. Regarding the mids you describe as "sharp", my guess is that you received so many information, as they are VERY accurate, that you was surprised. We see that often. So please give yourself 3-4 days and I'm sure you will change your mind.

  • @westalliance
    @westalliance6 ай бұрын

    I own them , they are very well defined and dimensional with fantastic low end. But you need very well acoustically treated room for them to use.

    Have you tried the Focal Trio 6Bes? I'm saving my money for those. I heard a pair at VK over the summer and compared them to some ATCs and a smaller pair of Barefoots and I thought they were amazing. They get loud, which is fun on occasion. They also have the ability to monitor just through the midrange driver and tweeter to act like a smaller monitor. The sound was smooth and each part of the frequency range worked well with a variety of styles of music from funk to pop, classic rock, country and prog. rock. The high end with those beryllium tweeters was as good as I've heard.

    I’ve heard these several times and I’m forced to agree with your assessment. I couldn’t get my ears and head around the bizarre midrange either. Classic and modern sounding tracks, that were mixed by some of the best of the best, sounded phasey and 𝘶𝘯-𝘮𝘪𝘹𝘦𝘥 on these. Although diminutive by comparison, The FP01’s feel more accurate. They’re dope looking speakers.

    I know some songs mixed on these, to my ear they are too mid heavy and the bass sounds weird. Example is See Me Now by Infected Mushroom. Compare that to one of their older tracks, Stretched, which was mixed on small 5.25 inch monitors.

  • @StudioMarban

    @StudioMarban

    3 жыл бұрын

    I just referenced the two tracks you mentioned on youtube here... and "See Me Now" is a FAR superior mix... yes it may be louder (and thus less bassy) but the density and richness of the mids is FAR better, "Stretched" sounds incredibly "HI-FI" especially in the 6-16K region. Not sure what monitors you are using to form your opinion, but even on my HR824 Mk II's (cheap monitors) the winner is clear IMO.

  • @arande3

    @arande3

    @@StudioMarban hmm yes it's interesting. I think I like a brighter more dynamic sound, an example of that would be Somehow by Croatia Squad, whereas another track that I think is a bit flat that is mixed on Barefoots is You Are the Light by Hot Since 82. I like the bright energetic presentation of Somehow and Stretched most of the time, but when I really want to listen to deeply into the sound I like songs like See Me Now and You Are the Light.

  • @arande3

    @arande3

    @@StudioMarban I'm currently listening to these mentioned tracks on my best speakers (I just got them, idk their sound yet but they're very similar to the MM27). I'd say the barefoot tracks sound better on these (obviously, a track will sound the best on what it was made on) but the brighter/harsher tracks sound better on my duller speakers (NOT less frequency response in the highs, just more laid back even though it measures the same). I suspect this has more to do with my speakers better matching how the tracks were made than whether or not they're good mixes. Not that I would know. Just a theory. I think The Weeknd Blinding Lights was mixed on Focals, I will try listening on my beryllium speakers and see if those have the best sound. Very interesting...

    That's an interesting response, they are extremely flat to 1db, it could be that you have been using speakers that aren't as flat as you thought. But I haven't heard thee in person, I have heard them praised but you have to call 'em like you hear them . I'd like you to review those massive mains setup called "master stack" they sell, they are over the top and look like they could power a small concert hall but I really wonder how they are in a studio. Way out of my range for now, but in Canada they are about $128,000 a pair, that ain't cheap. They are for rather large control rooms, but why not review them? I could buy 2 18"s (in cabinets ofcourse) and 4 dual 12" cabinets AND amps to drive them for that. If someone argued, "(well, I don't have that much room").....Ok....I could buy just about ANY pair of Studio monitors WITH a sub and still be 1/2 the price or less. Again, I believe in quality...but I just can't see the price matching the quality for these. I have always been surprised at how consumerism and advertising change people's choices... There is no such thing as "the best monitors in the world..." It all depends on the taste of the listener... If there is a "simple and tiny" thing that you don't like about the sound of the speaker is no longer the best for you.... What sounds good to some doesn't necessarily sound good to others...
