Barcelona was great... UNTIL I GOT JUMPED
I got jumped when I went to Barcelona because some thieves tried to steal my phone. It is no secret, Barcelona is known for having a lot of theft and criminal activity. I knew this, but I didn't think it would occur to me. I was walking mid day in the Raval neighborhood, which is known for stealing, and someone took my phone out of my hand. I immediately reacted and tackled the thief. The phone fell to the ground and the thief's accomplice pulled me off of the original thief. Then, shop owners came out and helped me by fighting off the thiefs. I was in complete shock, this was the first time I have ever been jumped. I came back with cuts on my side, arm, and knuckles. I got very lucky to have great help from the local Barcelona shop owners. If it were not for them, I would have been jumped and my phone would be stolen.

Of all cities in Spain, Barcelona is the one that I least want to visit due to theft issues. There's so many stories that in Barcelona people get robbed. By the way, you're a great story teller.

It’s interesting because I never really considered theft to be so strong there… until it happened to me. Now it is hard for me to walk around there without being a little on edge. Thanks for the compliments by the way! More stories to come

That is the truth! If this were to happen back at home I wouldn’t have tried to tackle them cause I’m sure I would’ve gotten hurt in one was or another, or like you said, maybe even get a gun pulled on me

Well it's the criminals that have the guns, not the civilians, so I don't know that getting robbed in Europe is better
Just came from Barcelona and thankfully didn't get jumped. It's definitely unsafe in the inner areas of the Gothic Quarters. Definitely helps to know the hot spots where these types of guys operate. Thank goodness the kind strangers helped you
Sorry to hear this happened to you, but I’m glad you fought back and kept your phone in the end. Barcelona and Madrid can be so sketch. I def prefer Valencia or Sevilla, or smaller towns in Andalusia. Much safer in my experience. Lmao also the way you re-enacted this whole thing was so entertaining 😂 the pigeons lmaoooo I hollered

Yes I live near Alicante area and I prefer Valencia and Madrid over Barcelona I was not impressed with very very sketchy more than Madrid at least when I visited
You're a great communicator. We were in BCN in September and fortunately didn't have problems, but I fell in love with the city and would love to return. Your video provided a lot of great information that I need to be aware of if and when I can return to lovely Barcelona.

That sucks dude. I guess you're lucky they didnt have a knife though. I got pickpocketed in Madrid not too long ago, it was so frustrating but made me more thankful for Valencia being a safer city. I just hope Valencia doesn't go the same way as it gets more and more popular

I'm sorry to hear that. My family is from Barcelona and my mum got robbed her phone from inside her bag, in a regular bus line. So indeed looking like a visitor may be a fact but it also happens to citizens. Of course there are some precautions to be taken in order to be safer but most of times, becoming the target in a robbery is just a fact of bad luck. Unfortunately nowadays this happens often.

The traditional sentence to yell is: AL LADRÓN. I've lived many years in Barcelona, you can have a phone in a loose poket daily. When you walk swinging your arms you touch your leg in every swing to feel that de phone is still there. Paranoid normality in that city.
