I'm glad that Tom posted this, as I had no idea what to do with the live crab in my sock drawer.
This is a very adventurous recipe, brilliant if you're on the beach with little equipment. However rustic the char-grilled crab tastes exquisite, smoked and steamed in its shell.
I'm salivating.
This recipe shows you it is appropriate to be Crabby. Really nicely done. Brilliantly delicious. Blessings ChefMike

And a cow isn't killed for your steak.. Nothing wrong with killing and animal in a quick manner.

If you don't want to deal with the crab yourself then ask your fishmonger to dispatch it for you. Or of course try making this dish with boiled crab.

jep001 well I didnt imply that at all, I was just expressing me being surprised about the living crab on the table, didnt expect that. And no, there is no cow killed for my pleasure, I can ensure you that :D

Yea man, lobsters great on the barbie. Put them to sleep by popping them in the freezer for 45 minutes then cut the whole thing clean in half, head first then the tale. Pop it on the barbecue (shell side down), season the meat, cover with foil. Cook for 10 minutes. Hey presto, delicioso!
What kind of crab is that?

It's a common brown crab.
By broad beans does he mean fava beans? Cuz that's what we call those over here in the states

Yes! haha a little rustic huh. :-)
I would just chuck the head. Stabbing it leaks all the juice out...

Not quite, ceviche is normally raw fish cured in lime juice. Strangely I have a ceviche recipe coming in the next couple of weeks!
looks good, although i'll never understand why so much olive oil is used. people always slosh too much of the stuff on anything.

Italian style bruchetta.... But I get your point, it's really nice to have a variety of finishing touches ;-)
No way to kill the living crab or the living lobster! I'm still thinking of it because I love fish.....I'm not eating meat, but maybe I've to stop to eat fish....thinking!
Recipe in how to ruin crab, add chunky half cooked broad beans!
If you don't kill the crab first you'd have even more juices.

They're required to show that on TV or on media to prevent people complaining. I'd do the same on TV, but would not kill the crab beforehand if the camera's off.
poor crab :(
them bean were never cooked and hugh would have taken off that horrible grey outer shell as would I waste of a lovely crab
