I'm glad that Tom posted this, as I had no idea what to do with the live crab in my sock drawer.

This is a very adventurous recipe, brilliant if you're on the beach with little equipment. However rustic the char-grilled crab tastes exquisite, smoked and steamed in its shell.

If you don't want to deal with the crab yourself then ask your fishmonger to dispatch it for you. Or of course try making this dish with boiled crab.

jep001 well I didnt imply that at all, I was just expressing me being surprised about the living crab on the table, didnt expect that. And no, there is no cow killed for my pleasure, I can ensure you that :D

Yea man, lobsters great on the barbie. Put them to sleep by popping them in the freezer for 45 minutes then cut the whole thing clean in half, head first then the tale. Pop it on the barbecue (shell side down), season the meat, cover with foil. Cook for 10 minutes. Hey presto, delicioso!

They're required to show that on TV or on media to prevent people complaining. I'd do the same on TV, but would not kill the crab beforehand if the camera's off.
