1/3 is very easy to beat - the biggest issue is the rake at 1/3. Once you move to 2/5 the rake isn't nearly as bad - but you can still easily make $30-$40 an hour at 1/3 playing well. You really want to get to 2/5 as soon as possible so you can start making $50-$70 an hour but there is no way 2/5 is easier than 1/3. If you don't know how to deal with shallow stacks - stop raising so large pre flop. Start min-raising and if they all go multi-way to the flop that's great. I see so many poor live players going 4x-5x big blind open sizes which is bad especially with short stacks at the table. Stop bluffing as much at 1/3 - make a hand - and extract value. They don't like folding so value bet light, and only bluff solid players who fold.

adjusting your preflop sizing is not how you counter SS's. You need to adjust your starting hand range. You cant open 56s in the CO if the BTN and blinds are jam happy shortstackers. But opening to 5x is still advantageous to build larger pots to win and commit people faster.

ATo on T24r flop multiway - you dont want to cbet small here to keep 99 in. 99 isnt folding no matter what you do, small PP's are indifferent to bet sizes (mostly) on dry textures like this. You want to bet big because they'll call as a bluffcatcher. Then you can size down on the turn to keep them in. Now if the flop was wet like T56 with a flushdraw you want to bet small to keep their ranges wide so that you dont get trapped by monsters.

@@KeevinPokerVlog Your thin value river bets I believe are good ways to make your sessions a bit more profitable. I think that is a leak in my own game, being too nice and just showing down some marginal holdings.....or not raising enough with strong holdings. 1-3 in Washington can play smaller unless you get on the "main table" which often times has players that have been playing for quite a while and have deeper stacks....it isn't unusual for 5 of the players to have at least $1k. However our biggest bet is capped at $300 so it is a bit of a different game....this is true at all levels so it definitely changes how the 2-5 plays and I imagine the 5-10 (often 5-10-20) even more so.

Wow that $300 max bet makes it so weird IMO. 2/5 or 5/10 with that cap is definitely a whole different game.

Yes, I think going for thin value and recognizing those spots is very crucial for beating 1/3. It's a tough game as is. Every value bet counts =)
