Lot's of comments regarding if these weapons are illegal or not. I'm originally from the U.K and have been living in Thailand permanently for the last 5 years. Here is a list showing what weapons are illegal in the U.K. It is also illegal to sell​ or carry any offensive weapon in Thailand. Banned knives and weapons It is illegal to bring into the UK, sell, hire, lend or give anyone the following: butterfly knives (also known as ‘balisongs’) - a blade hidden inside a handle that splits in the middle disguised knives - a blade or sharp point hidden inside what looks like everyday objects such as a buckle, phone, brush or lipstick flick knives (also known as ‘switchblades’ or ‘automatic knives’) - a blade hidden inside a handle which shoots out when a button is pressed gravity knives stealth knives - a knife or spike not made from metal (except when used at home, for food or a toy) zombie knives - a knife with a cutting edge, a serrated edge and images or words suggesting it is used for violence swords, including samurai swords - a curved blade over 50cm (with some exceptions, such as antiques and swords made to traditional methods before 1954) sword-sticks - a hollow walking stick or cane containing a blade push daggers blowpipes (‘blow gun’) telescopic truncheons - extend automatically by pressing button or spring in the handle batons - straight, side-handled or friction-lock truncheons hollow kubotans - a cylinder-shaped keychain holding spikes shurikens (also known as ‘shaken’, ‘death stars’ or ‘throwing stars’) kusari-gama - a sickle attached to a rope, cord or wire kyoketsu-shoge - a hook-knife attached to a rope, cord or wire kusari (or ‘manrikigusari’) - a weight attached to a rope, cord, wire hand or foot-claws knuckledusters www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives

I was recently there in Bangkok and after buying a knuckle duster from one of the stalls I was arrested 50m down the road by the Thai police. I believe the stalls and the police work together and get some type of tip for informing the police when someone buys a weapon. I had to pay a 5,000 baht fine to the police for carrying an offensive weapon in public.

I grew up around most of these “weapons” living in rural Pennsylvania, boys owned most of that stuff. Grown ups had fire arms, It was a rural hunting and farming culture. A machete was a common tool that we would use to help clear land, grown ups used the chain saws.. ,

I bought an electronic stun gun exactly like the one you tested at your first stop in the market. I bought it here in San Diego gun show in California. All legal for approximately the same price. That butterfly knife on your second stop is illegal in Ca. for some reason, as well as that push-button stiletto and I believe as are the brass knuckles.

I admit that I didn't watched the video entirely (just skipped "weapon" by "weapon") but here I go. 1) 2:25 Combat knife which basically is a normal 'survival' knife. Seriously? For real? C'mon man, barely NO nation (in the Western world) banned/prohibit etc those, as far as I know :-) 2) 2:34 Ninja style stars. Here in Italy, where I live, you can purchase and keep those at home (but never carry outside, never) without issues or permits of all sorts. 3) 4:20 Those 'retractible batons' etc, same as above for Ninja throwing stars. Here in Italy you can buy, legally (even in the Italian Amazon) those and keep at home said batons, without issues. Carry one of those outside, or in your car etc and you are in troubles. But at home those are legit. 4) 6:50 That's basically a Machete and, just like for the knives, as far as I know no nation in the Western world consider a Machete a weapon, but a tool. Yes, even in the UK :-) A thing... $90 for that piece of steel is IMO outrageous, for less you can purchase a Condor Machete, 100% better. Obviously when I've said that "in Italy you can purchase" etc I was referring to 18+ years people only, of course.

Nice market. In Italy we can buy all of these blades and blunt weapons without problems,we can't carry but we can buy and keep at home.

I’ve been to the Bangkok night market and the Hong Kong night market. Bought a Ninja Sword in Hong Kong. Trick is getting back home with Merchandise that could raise eyebrows at Customs.

gaga statistically these items aren't reportedly used in crimes more often. Most of the knives that are illegal in some countries and areas aren't more deadlier than your average kitchen knife, they just look scarier. The only item that is showed that is actually dangerous is the knuckle dusters imo because I have seen and heard those used all the time.

In Thailand only illegal to carry on person can own keep home. You should go to Arunyik (circle of iron) near Ayuttaya where they make swords and knives etc.

Graham Clarke if you're caught you may be lucky enough to only pay a fine. It could range anywhere from 1000-100,000฿ depending on the officer.

You could find a lot of buttlerfly knives in batangas in the philippines Also butterlfy knives there are cheap and are also called "balisongs".

A reminder that making something illegal will not eliminate its presence, except in the hands of the people who can most be trusted with it.

First visit to Bangkok in the 90s I had a guy come up to me in the night markets and show me a couple of Springfield Arms catalogues, including firearms and say... "anything you want, 24 hours, you name it".... lol... I took a crab salad.

I'm sorry but that first place you went to was selling cheap junk. Being from America, the stun-gun, brass knucks, and throwing stars are illegal in certain jurisdictions. But generally legal in most of the nation. I'm very familiar with that "pen-knife." Absolute garbage. That "combat knife," same thing. You're best using it as a wall-hanger. Plenty of real combat knives out there. Cheap throwing stars that can easily bend. Those credit card knives are notorious for being utter rubbish. Okay, the stun-gun was a bit impressive. But most such vendors usually have a couple of decent things worth buying. Telescopic baton at the other place. Familiar with those cheap ones too. Watch out for the end of the baton flying off from the rest of the shaft after awhile. Very common. ASP is the only company that makes those things properly. Cheap butterfly knives. Watch out for one of the handles breaking a pin and flying off as you twirl it open. Out the front stiletto, so ridiculously easy to defeat one of those. Jam the opening by pressing your palm against it. Sure, you'll get a tiny pin-prick on your palm as the blade moves forward, but you've also completely buggered up the opening. And most folks have no clue what the simple trick is to get it to work again. Viagra.... Okay, no experience with that. Not something I personally need. But who knows what sort of homemade concoction you're getting with blackmarket Viagra. Labels and empty bottles are easy to get. Knuckle Duster, way too thin to be effective. Some sort of low-grade pot-metal clearly painted to look like brass. And quite frankly, not very well. As far as the machete goes, that sheath for it is higher quality. More pot metal junk. Real ones are made from carbon steel. Usually 1095, but not always. But definitely always carbon steel. Cheap junk at inflated prices that tourists think are a great bargain. These guys are experts at dealing with tourists. And the local cops make sure such places never get raided. It's easy when they're the ones who'd be doing the raiding, if they weren't bought off already. As proof, these guys are blatantly out in the open. No need to lead tourists down a dimly lit back-alley or into a private room away from prying eyes out in public. Basically it's a tourist trade! They get your money, you get cheap junk you thought you got for a bargain, and at the same time you feel like you flirted with danger. You go back home, you entertain and amaze your friends with your wild tales of finding the underground, illegal, Blackmarket. And buying a couple of items. They'll be very impressed. It's an experience. I did notice that none of these shops out in the open even ask if you wanted to buy illegal guns. They know better. That's not part of the tourist trade, nor the experience. Illegal trinkets are fine. But the local Authorities draw the line at guns. That's something they don't mess around with. And the blackmarket dealers know that. Though nothing stopping a tourist from making up tall tales about the tables upon tables full of guns that were present in some backroom they were lead to. Oh don't get me wrong, such places do exist. The dealers don't just deal with anybody though. The shops shown in this video are low-level, low-risk tourist traps.

Exactly lol, it's not even a black market situation, it's literally just cheap copies of stuff already available elsewhere in Bangkok. There's a dedicated knife store near Saman Rat that imports Cold Steel and other reputable brands. I got my first legit knife from there after years of cheap shit. You won't see any Thais buying knives here because they either don't need them (we much prefer to scrap hand to hand anyway) or bought a waaaay better one.

After watching this, it makes me want to go to the flea market this weekend.

Taser gun he said. It is just a taser. A taser "gun" fires two projectiles connected to the gun by a wire, which conducts electricity through the body. Half of the names that you called these knives (aka tools) were also incorrect. A combat knife, or a tactical fixed blade would have boosters that prevent the users hand from slipping off of the handle, and cutting the wielders hand. The blade that you looked at would just be called a fixed blade. Ps. All of these tools and self defense weapons are legal in most of the United States.

It's amazing in New York most of those weapons are illegal. It's unfortunate, but some of those items can be used for legitimate self defense & they are still illegal

Used to live there when I was 2-8 years old. I remember always wanting to get the nun-chucks. Didn’t see them here though. I did manage to get some hand-cuffs. Pretty cool. They also had so many pirated movies and game boy games. What a place.

You can buy all that stuff right here in the US, why would you want to buy it there?

All of that stuff was absolute garbage. At the end of the day, none of those "weapons" are any more dangerous than a brick, a screwdriver or a hammer.

Ghosty Ghost It’s a tourist trap that’s why you bargain cheaper prices for example a butterfly knife that costs let’s say the vendor says 10$ which is pretty expensive for a knife that’s junk so just leave and he’ll change his mind and lower the price to half the price or even more sometimes.

Depends on which country you're from, in UK, Auz, and NZ, it's illegal. In US, depending on the state, it's not illegal. Americans even can carry handguns and assault weapons. In Canada, most weapons here aren't illegal.

+Nicola Cole Nope. the carving knife length limit was discussed some years back and made the news. I have heard of pencils being seized . My neighbour travelled to the UK and a gentleman accused her kids of carrying "weapons" when he saw they had hurley's with them. Caine killed Able...... with a rock!

I didn’t make news in the uk and my friend trained with a self defence trainer who trained the police and told her to always carry in her bag a sharp pencil or a pen and if attacked to stab them in the eye 👁

+Nicola Cole fair enough but I studied judo and could easily strangle someone with a belt. Should we ban belts. It is impossible to put weapons beyond reach because almost anything can be used as a weapon. You can say the limit of carving knife law was not discussed all you like but I assure you it was

In 1970 a 19 year old guy on our gun went to Bangkok for his R&R. [ i was married so went to Hawaii ] The guy had never had any under-yonder [ i don't think he had ever even driven a car ] so he was pretty excited about going as he had heard all the stories about the cheap stuff over there. A few days after returning he had to catch a chopper to the rear and go get shot full of penicillin for a really bad dose of the clap. Every time i hear or read the word Bangkok i just automatically think of cheap whores and people getting VD. Oh, I also was expecting to see full automatic weapons and grenade launchers. I am from Texas, kids have been playing with this guy's prohibited weapons from as far back as the first kung fu movies were made here. This guy is silly, only a fool would pay his fee to join his kiddy club.

Similar markets on holidays in Hawaii 19 years ago. My buddy bought knuckle dusters, i bought a switch blade. We got them through customs. Mind you i was shitting myself , was able to keep cool/poker face. 👋 🇦🇺

This is the kind of stuff my dad used to buy me at the gun show when I was a kid good ol USA

"Illegal weapons" literally the most normal things you buy in such stalls all over South East Asia. The only things missing in the first stall of "illegal weapons" is massaging devices, motorcycle accessories, binoculars, camping gear, motorcycle helmets, cellphone chargers, and those massage cushions you put in your monobloc chair to turn it into a massage chair.

I don't know where you guys live but I can buy that all at my local gas station

Well they are illegal here, you know. Having a Glock here is very much the same as having a machine gun in the states. You need strict license and background checks, it is very expensive, rare, basically similar to machine guns

It's not even a Rambo knife. It's a style of machete, I believe like they use in the Philippines. That Chinese knock off is worth about $20.

All that stuff can be bought at my local Gas Station hanging next to the cash register. I've got the credit card knife in my wallet right now.

With the exception of the Rambo knives at the end, all of that stuff was cheap flea market mall ninja junk. Most of it can be found cheaper on Ebay. Die cast zinc handles on knives is the mark of pure garbage.

@@rray1953 "stiletto" refers to a long narrow blade which that was not. It looked more like a dagger style blade. Dagger refers to a blade with a double sharpened edge.

I would of gave them 1/3 of their price for each item you bought.

At 7:05 you ask the seller how much for the machete. Really sounds like he said 2,000 baht yet you reply 3,000. The guy obviously keeps his mouth shut. He never thought a customer would rip himself off better than he could.

He should get a Bud-k catalog. Get all that stuff a lot cheaper .
