I MEANT TO MENTION THAT CAROL SHOULD ALSO TRANSLATE YOUR TRAVELS IN HER HOME LANGUAGE TOO YOU WOULD OPEN UP YOUR EUROPEAN VIEWERS !! MUCH LOVE RAMONA
Legend states that when King Taksin, at the time Ayutthaya mandarin, led some troops to break the Burmese siege of Ayutthaya and arrived at this old temple at dawn, so the temple was then named Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun). After Ayutthaya fell after one-year siege, he led troops from Chanthaburi province to expel the occupied Burmese troops in Ayutthaya. Then he proclaimed himself King and moved the capital from Ayutthaya to Thonburi and built a royal palace adjacent to Wat Arun and this temple then became the Royal Temple within the Palace domain in line with Ayutthaya tradition. The same could be said about King Rama I when he moved the capital from Thonburi across the Chao Phraya River and built Emerald Buddha Temple within the Grand Palace. When Thonburi was still a distinct province before it was dissolved to form Bangkok metropolis about 50 years ago, Thonburi's symbol was Phra Prang (Stupa) of this temple.
The carvings on Thai temples are really fine, and the paintings on the walls are beautiful. I believe they will still be beautiful a hundred years later! You are a warm man, I like to hear you introduce the history and buildings, you speak very well every time! This is another beautiful episode, thanks a lot for sharing! 👍🤩👏
เมืองไทย ยังมีสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวอีกมากมายให้ทุกคนได้ไปเที่ยว พวกเราชาวไทย ยินดีต้อนรับนักท่องเที่ยวทุกคน Welcome to Thailand 🤍
Hello Chris and Carol. Thank you for your great post. I love it.
My 2nd favourite city that I have visited after KL
Wonderful memories of Bangkok. Great job.
Chris and Carol, Bangkok is a fantastic place, and it has distinctive culture, history and architecture as well!
Great video. Glad to see your parents enjoying it also
Wat Pho is an old temple south of the Grand Palace. It is also known also as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha built by King Rama III in 1832. The King also decreed that traditional Thai massage and traditional medicine be inscribed on stone tablets to deseminate the knowledge to the general public. The famous Thai spa and massage are believed to originate from such stone inscription. King Rama III was also known as Merchant Prince because when he was still a prince he conducted trade with China and asked the ship captain to bring back stone sculptures such as Chinese deities, mythical beasts as stabilizing balance in the ship's belly. These stone sculptures are now commonly seen at Wat Pho, Wat Arun and the Grand Palace. When President Obama had only one day to tour a Thai temple, US Embassy recommended this temple due to its unique architecture, history and beautiful reclining Buddha.
Heading to BKK next week. Thanks for the info!
Congratulations to you guys for your remarkable video today’s from Bangkok, Thailand to shows these great places in February of 2023❤❤❤

Hi carol, for your neck pain, pls turn right to left from morning to afternoon like when ur doing your exercises. I am 64 yrs old. I am doing that since I had my first neck pain way back 2015. You can also roll a towel, place it at the back of ur neck, pull it then turn right to left ❤
Amazing places to take a tour around, thanx for sharing guys and greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Great footage of the temples and the colors. Many thanks. Looks like your family are enjoying themselves. And thankfully the weather's not too hot and humid now. Nights and mornings have been perfect. I'm in a quieter part of Bangkok but will relocate over towards China Town and little India next week to explore. Just subscribed, as we are traveling to Bangkok this summer. Thanks for a great video.
Very nice wall scruptures and also statues
Great episode
Love you guys😘
Wonderful vid ❤
What a beautiful place
You can actually kind of make out if the King is currently in residence in Thailand or not, the King's emblem, the yellow flag with the royal Garuda, is only raised when the King is currently in the kingdom, and the flag raised on current designated residential palaces. Great video by the way.
Great channel!
Wow. Beautiful video 😍
one of the best cities in the world
What a wonderful video. It's been years since I have been in Bangkok. At that time it was so polluted you could hardly breatth. I see that you are having much better air quality and weather. Love the clarity of the video. Which camera do you use. Keep up the inspirting videos! I love them!

Hey Chris & Carol! Thanks for mentioning that you were in Thailand before. Will try to see KOH CHANG & KOH MAK KOH KHAM before your next release! Just the two? I’m still trying to get caught up. Long way to go. That’s a good thing! Rich 🍍
iirc they used to rent out clothes for pretty cheap, but after covid those are just gone.
Welcome to Thailand ครับ
Welcome to Thailand❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very beautifyl place 🍀👍
Need to go back to BNK I missed checking out an underground Muay Thai spot. If you're still there and haven't gone yet, I recommend going to their contemporary art museum. I didn't think it was for me, but it was a cool window to the non-ancient Thai stuff
สวัสดีครับ เที่ยวประเทศไทยให้มีความสุขนะครับ
So nice to revisit all the temples and some streets I've been to a few times! - Just the price for the boat has still remained the same...!😄
Ah nice one, you covered most of the places I went to in Bangkok, but my footage was awful. Good to see it all again. Didn’t make it to Khaosan Road tho
Khao San Road was famous for attracting backpackers over 30 years ago when the Net was just in its infancy by the words of mouth and such publication as Lonely Planet. The accommodation was cheap in those days, so cheap that you could find a room with a fan but with common bathroom facility for only 100-200 baht/night. The street food was also very cheap, paying 20-30 baht including drink for a meal. There were several tour agents and even hired vans that could take you to Bangsaen, Pattaya, Hua Hin. It was a stop place even for young backpackers who would like to explore other provinces or neighbouring Laos, Cambodia and Burma. The backpackers in those days were not confined to western adults but even Korean and Japanese young adults could also be seen at Khao San Road. The place was even more popular when the Net was widely available 20 years ago. However, nowadays you could not find cheap 200 baht/night room to stay anymore.
Thanks,
@JumpingPlaces

Another treasured moments for your parents
im going to phuket and Bangkok in March.
Bangkok's Grand Palace was built in the style of Ayutthaya Grand Palace with a royal temple inside reserved only for the King and relatives to hold Buddhist ceremony. Since the temple is in the Grand Palace there is no monk living in the temple. It is only the functional temple in Thailand that has no monk resides in. Monks from temples nearby are usually invited when the King performs Buddhist ceremony. It is a tradition that any novice who passes the highest Pali Grade 9 language proficiency will be royally patronaged and ordained into monkhood in this Emerald Buddha temple. Pali is the language spoken during the Buddha's era. Buddhist Dharma was originally transmitted by Pali oral tradition (still practiced even today when monks cite Pali sutra every morning and evening) but later transcribed into Pali alphabets, similar to Sanskrit which is the main language of Hinduism. There is a nationwide exam conducted annually to assess Pali proficiency and few novices/monks pass Grade 9 language each year, normally fewer than 10. So you can imagine how hard it is. Here is the full name of Bangkok. Krungthep Mahanakorn Amorn Rattanakosin Mahintra Yuttaya Mahadilokpop Noparat Burirom Udom Rachnivet Mahasathan Amornpimarn Avartarnsathit Sakkatiya Witsanukamprasit Here is my rough translation. Krungthep the motropolis, the royal capital of Ratanakosin dynasty following Ayutthaya dynasty, a grand palace resided by God King.

Almost correct. You missed the word “Ratchathani”. “Krungthep mahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Nopparat ratchathani burirom Udomratchaniwet mahasathan Amonphiman Awatansathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukamprasit” "City of angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Visvakarman at Indra's behest."
Hi, You are doing a great job showing-off Thailand. I have lived and worked in Bangkok for 30 years and happy to give you some ideas on interesting sites to visit. Also recommend Kenneth Barret's 22 WALKS IN BANGKOK, available at all good bookstores. Are you going to Ayutthaya - very interesting. Make sure you use the new SMART FERRIES Eboats on the river. John
Hello from Philippines
Love the elephant pants!
Bangkok has the most ethnic and religious diversity in the world.
It is Buddhism temple. The name is Arun which mean "Dawn" , Temple of Dawn.
@JumpingPlaces

Everywhere online says it is names after the hindu god Aruna (God of dawn), maybe the word Arun in Thai originates from the hindu god also since it refers also to dawn. Many buddhist temples also have hindu references, we have seen many statues of hindu gods in many thai buddhist temples. Buddhism came from hinduism.

@@JumpingPlaces it is Sanskrit language It is the name of a god also, but the original meaning is dawn.
Welcome.
คุณมาพักแถวระแวกบ้านผมเลยนะ ผมอยู่ วัดใหม่อมตรส ยินดีตอนรับนะครับ คุณเดืนผ่านวัดผมใานะ ผมว่าคุ้นๆๆนะ
Wonderful tour of Bangkok. I've been there a few times, but it's probably been 20 years since I visited the Grand Palace. Somehow you make it seem more impressive (more buildings) than I remember, but it can't really be. You barely mention the Emerald Buddha--did you see it? That's the centerpiece, the most famous and venerated figure there, though in truth it was a disappointment to my jaded western eyes. Smaller than I expected and--spoiler alert--not really an emerald.
At the Grand Palace shown in the video, you can see Garudas (mythical flying deity) grab Nagas (mythical serpent-like deity living underworld). They are sworn mortal enemies in Hindu and Buddhist legends. However, both are God Vishnu's mounts. When travelling, God Vishnu mounts on Garuda. When resting in the sea, God Vishnu lays on bed transformed from Naga's body. Garuda is a sacred deity in Thailand and Indonesia. Thus Indonesia National Airlines is "Garuda" while Thailand's official emblem is Garuda which is affixed in front of official paper and shown on Royal Announcements on Thai TVs. Naga is sacred deity in Thailand and Laos as protector of the Lord Buddha. Temples in the Thailand's North and Laos often feature 2 Nagas at the front leading the steps into the temple. Standalone Naga is featured prominently along Mekong River on both sides of Thailand and Laos as well.
Hi guys, I love your videos, tha ks for all the places I went to only because of you, like Ferragudo in Portugal:-). Question,is there any Smog now? I am going there soon and I can't if there is smog due to my asthma. Maybe you find the time to answer me. It looks all sunny in the Video. Is the footage recent from this week? Muito Obrigado from Hamburgo, Marcus
Hi HRU
Hmmm. regarding the outfits i don't really think that they want you ust to purchase but it isnt only aout covering some body parts but it is also about how you are dressing when it comes to temples, and as for the surrounding gift shops they found it an opportunity to serve the tourist in this specific case... i really need you to think positively in this particular case. :)
How hot at this time in Bangkok
🎉
You’re probably right about the Kardashian-like king of Thailand spending time in Germany it seems. 😉
Back up for that fried chicken in the market!
When you pay, are you using the Baht, or do you use American? Is there money mainly coins or bills? Is it easy to understand what price to pay? Very informative about all the culture and noticed alot of others wearing the elephant pants. 😆
No you wrong. Dress code in the grand palace is very strick. People show respect to this place. The same concept as you do not wear shorts to the wedding.
@JumpingPlaces
Жыл бұрын
We weren't wearing shorts, we were wearing a sarong as mentioned in the video. Sarong is what temples give to people in every country to wear at the temples, the grand palace used to also rent sarongs to people. The fact that a sarong isn't allowed but elephant pants are makes no sense
Did you need visa from England or Portugal ,Europe ro go thailand???
you could rent the cloths..

Amazing pattaya 😮
Is there air pollution in Bangkok now?
The butterfly pea flowers (blue flowers) contains anthocyanin, which is a water-soluble colorant. and is harmless if eaten in moderation Therefore, it can be excreted in the form of urine. In addition, anthocyanins have been described as compounds that prevent or inhibit, the oxidation by scavenging free radicals and reducing the oxidative stress. The benefits of butterfly pea flowers are not just that. The butterfly pea flowers were also used in ancient times to help in enhancing memory. And scientific research has shown that it is possible that pea flowers can improve memory. It has only been experimented in rats although it has not yet been tested in humans. So perhaps you made the right decision not to eat those blue flowers. haha 😁
is the hazardous pollution perfect. my eyes are burning here in bkk.
3:31 Dude, why you had to buy the pants or the clothes. Inside, you can rent the elephant pants and the shoulder-covered shirt by paying the officer for rental deposit fee and when you return them they will refund your deposit
