Indeed, it is. Cave and Basin is also the perfect place to avoid shopping... quiet, beautiful and super close to downtown Banff. Drop off the shoppers and if they bail on shopping and want to do something fun, you are literally 5-10 minutes away.

Did not know of white algae - fascinating and beautiful.

It's really neat. Hypnotizing. I've never seen it before either, it's described as white algae on interpretive signage, but I really can't find much info on it.

I have only been there once. Really good info.. I take it you live in the area? Or at least the province. Was really nice to see the water system. Had no idea that mollies and mosquito fish were introduced. I had never seen a bull trout before. I subscribed..

I'm an Albertan. I grew up in Rocky Mountain House, but now live in Red Deer. Next time you are in Banff definitely check out Cave and Basin and give me a shout if you want to see cool aquatic habitats in Alberta... I used to be a fisheries technician so I had the opportunity to see a lot of Alberta that is rarely visited with an emphasis on cool fish spots, lol. The front range of the Rockies is beautiful country.

I believe there once were a population of freshwater angelfish at one point, though they didn’t last

The jewel cichlids were really cool about 20 years ago, when I last I saw them. Brilliant red in the full sun. Angels would be neat to see in the wild, I guess I will have to head to the Amazon for that.

Annoying that you can’t collect these fish, they’d be some interesting strains to have in the hobby

There are some nice mollies there. Tempting, but the potential consequences... not worth it!
