Banding Wheel | Shimpo vs Cheapest Wheel vs Amazon Choice | Unboxing Review | Beginner Pottery Tools
Unboxing and overview of the nature and differences in quality between the Shimpo banding wheel, the "Amazon's Choice" wheel, and the cheapest wheel I could find on Amazon. If you are new to pottery and you are buying your supplies online without a way to physically touch what you are buying, I hope this video can help you decide which banding wheel will best suit your needs (and it's the Shimpo). oh yeah, you are going to LOVE it! It is honestly one of my favorite and most often used tools thus far.
Thank you so much for this! I found this extremely helpful when looking into my first banding wheel. Loved being able to see the difference between the Amazon and Shimpo, which were the two I was comparing. Thanks again :)

Glad to be a help! 😊
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, especially for showing how the plastic one behaves as I was really curious. There's a couple of other things you may want to consider that an experienced ceramist told me. 1. Not everyone uses a banding wheel for decoration..some people use it for construction. Imagine you're using it to attach a handle on a mug or to add embellishments. In such a case, u don't want the wheel to be spinning so freely. Actually u want it to stand still and only turn when u want it to turn. In that case ur mid range one is better than the Shimpo. Secondly, when youre making very large pots u want a banding wheel that's really short (like the shimpo or even thinner), and again u don't care if it doesn't spin fast or forever..actually u only want it to turn for as much as u need.. and u don't care about the noise either cause ur spinning slowly or only over a certain angle. For such large pieces the specific potter has preferred using the kind of thin, dirt cheap, plastic turntables ud normally put under a TV so it can rotate more easily. Some things to consider :)

It does kind of sound like that lol. It was actually summertime in Texas during a year of a huge cicada emergence. It's CRAZY how loud they are.
Are you able to make pots and vases on them or are they just for glazing ?
@BlueNoseTrading

They are for glazing, sculpting or hand building. This isn't an electric wheel that spins fast enough to throw on.
Nice the last one, how to get buy the last one

Is there a banding wheel that has an adjustable height?

Not sure, but it's a great idea!
It’s a good video but the price points are very different. I have the mid range banding wheel. I paid $30 for it because I didn’t have $270 to spend on a Shimpo. I am a beginner and a hobby potter. Sometimes spending that much money just doesn’t make sense. Again a good video

The Shimpo used here is usually around $71 (or less on sale).
