    That is GREAT to hear. 😍 Welcome to the wonderful world of crafting pottery. Making pottery can seem compilated at times. I try to simplify it for beginner potters. I feel if I start getting too technical that may steer them away. Any questions or suggestions feel free to let me know. 😊

    Great review! This is an amazing wheel for its price point and target audience! It was the first one I started on back when I was taking pottery classes inpatient at a hospital and I even ended up purchasing one for myself to use when I was back home. I really love using it for trimming and any smaller projects I'm working on. Plus, I'm a huge fan of the removable top design, as it makes thoroughly cleaning the machine so much easier.

    Thanks Marie for an informative review of this wheel! It would be wonderful now to see a video in which you share with us what you like to make on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. LOVE your videos of projects from start to finish. SO inspiring. You are so generous with how-to videos and I'd love to see what you like to create "just for yourself" and how you decide that on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Thanks again for all you do. Thanks for the informative review! I really liked how you not only stated the specifications (size, speed, power) but also compared how each spec stacked up against the "standard" wheels. Having these points of reference allows people to understand the pros and cons of a less expensive wheel vs the full sized options and decide what compromises are right for them. Thanks again and keep making great content!

    Excellent video, I’m hoping for a followup video. Could you put this little guy through its paces? Throw a hundred cups on it, to see what you think of it after doing some intense work on it. Throw a giant pot on it, 50 pounds of clay to see if and how it struggles, the table starts to wobble or something else gives out. Maybe even side by side with your best wheel, give us insight why it might be worth while to spend a bit more on a better tool. You are awesome!

    Thanks for this video, Marie ... it's made me realize that if a pro can make this wheel work for them so can I! I bought one from Amazon, but the first one had an electrical problem, and I had to return it. The replacement one seems to work. I tried throwing something on it today, but I had a hard time finding somewhere to sit that was low enough. I found myself bent over rather uncomfortably. It was hard to use my legs (and impossible to use the splash pan) as a brace for centring the clay. You used the wheel standing up, and you made a comment that you thought it might be helpful for those with bad backs ... how does throwing while standing work for you? I think I'm going to have to try that or find some sort of platform to set it on ...

  • @PotteryCrafters

    @PotteryCrafters

    Yes you are right the splash pan is not good for bracing to center. You can brace your arms on the side of your body. And yes you can find something with the right height to sit or stand. 😊

It may be better than not having a wheel at all. Something to consider. You can also check out this review post to see if one of these wheels would suit you. potterycrafters.com/pottery-wheels-reviewed/ Keep in mind the wheels like Shimpo and Brent are built to last so if you plan on throwing for many years they are a good investment. 😊

Does the direction the wheel is spinning affect the clay to where certain objects are made certain ways, or is it just personal preference? I just got one of these and the only problem is the wheel itself. Was your wheel smooth when you got it? Aside from the normal concentric circles, mine has these grooved circles all across the wheel like a record. I've looked at a lot of reviews and none say anything about this. I feel like they'll make it way harder to take things off the wheel, and if trimming, would prob dig in and create ridges on the rim that I'd have to smooth later on.

  • @PotteryCrafters

    @PotteryCrafters

    Жыл бұрын

    That is a very good question. I have ridges also; they help to hold the clay to the wheel. The wheel will not leave ridges on the bottom because you remove the pot with a wire cutter. For trimming - It depends on how dry your clay is when you trim. I have never had ridge patterns left on the rim when I trimmed. If you do trim when your clay is softer, and the wheel would leave any marks, you can just smooth the clay over with your finger after trimming. Enjoy your new wheel 😊

When I turn it on and watch it from the side the wheel head wobbles slightly. It also makes a thudding sound once you start to turn it up past the slowest speed, which I can't hear in this video but I believe is what's being referred to. How detrimental is the wobbling when it comes to actually trying to throw? Should I return it straight away and ask for a replacement or does it not matter? Bought the 36cm last month because it had a lot of good reviews. Unfortunately, the wheel head is off-centered and wobbling. VEVOR's customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. Their website says 30-day no-hassle returns, but getting a new wheel has been the biggest hassle ever! Their first reply was for me to wait 3 weeks for a repair kit so that I could fix it myself. We've gone back and forth several times and each time they refuse to let me return the wheel - they keep upping the incentive to keep it. So far they're giving me $125 to keep it. Does anyone know how to fix it? I have no idea and now I'm stuck with an off-centered pottery wheel.

    Very good question Barbi. 😍 I started making an update, and got busy with other things and had to put it on hold. I'm still using it when I travel but mainly use it for trimming and decorating at home. Of course, it is not as good as my brent CXC that costs 10 times more. But I am surprised at how well it does work for a wheel less than $200. I still think it's a good starter wheel and if you choose to upgrade it's still good as a second wheel for trimming, decorating, and even spray glazing. 😊

    So how does someone dry these without a kiln?

  • @PotteryCrafters

    @PotteryCrafters

    3 жыл бұрын

    Good question David😊 The clay dry dries out on its own. This can take anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. Once it is bone dry, that's when unfortunatly you need a kiln to turn the clay into ceramics. Hopefully you can find someone that has one or rent the kiln space, or get a small kiln.

    That would depend on how much room you have for a kiln and the power supply. Check out the kiln questions video, I think that will help. It would be nice if you were able to get one. 😍

    Where do you throw the dirty water in the bucket? I put it down my sink and it wrecked my garbage disposal.

  • @PotteryCrafters

    @PotteryCrafters

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes I put it in a bucket and take the clear water out off the top. I allow the water to evaporate. Throw vinegar in the bucket from time to time to avoid the mold. Then use the clay for slip or dry it out more and recycle it. So sorry to hear that. Yes, clay will stick to pipes and clog your drain over time. You can also get a sink trap. Not *that* relaxing (Im a total failure, as of this post) I have zero experience with a wheel, but got a very similar one from Amazon. It has the same motor and deck specs, but it's orange, has a non-removable, single compartment pan and a remote foot pedal. It was regular $126.99, I got it used for $78. It has only the plastic tools, which I find completely useless and the sponge. Although its not exactly the same, this review gives me a bit more confidence in my purchase. Theres nothing more frustrating than not being able to tell if your problem is you, or your tools. Now, I know 👍

    It does take time to learn. I remember when I started throwing, it took me longer to center than it did to make the pot. By the time my clay was centered, I had half the amount of clay, I started with. I just kept trying. I think it's a good starter wheel. You are not going to be making 10-pound pots to start with anyway. 😊 That's funny I found those plastic tools to be completely useless too. 😀
