Thank you for continuing to react to Nightwish music, new subscriber here for that. Today you had the opportunity to meet Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band. At this concert Floor was in the band for just about 10 and a half months, joining them in the middle of a world tour, when their previous singer couldn't perform anymore, so all the songs from the setlist were composed for previous 2 singers - still, Floor managed to make them "her own". @@bobcieslinski Great review Bob. Romanticide might not have been the greatest song choice for an introduction to Floor. Nightwish's songs vary in intensity quite a bit. This one is pretty close to the harder metal end of their spectrum and because of this you only see Floor's intense side. The magic of Floor is her versatility in range, genre and style. Hopefully you will continue down the Nightwish rabbit hole and see for yourself. From a person who hated metal to Nightwish being my favourite band of all time.

The Wacken 2013 show is arguably one of the top live performance by any metal band. The whole setlist just top class. And Floor just killed it properly 💥💥💥💥

Again, not to compare voices, but in my humble opinion, you haven't really experienced Ghost Love Score if you haven't heard it with Floor as lead singer; pure magic! 2012 buenos aires, 2013 Wacken, 2015 Tampere...all fantastic, yet most people prefer the Wacken 💎...

Ghist Love Score from Decades live at Buenos Aires 2018, I think ,is also very good. I consider that second to Wacken 2013.

One of the best bands today? One of the best composers today? But make no mistake Floor Jansen is the most versatile, talented female vocalist on the planet today. It's really not debatable the more you go down this rabbit hole you will see.. thx for the react.ROCK ON!

I'd say that Floor is the best, most accomplished vocalist alive male or female. She is phenomenal. Toumas is up there with the best composers and arrangers ever along with Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O.) 👍😊

Great reaction! I think it's time for a story! Storytime! Check out Storytime from the same show, Wacken 2013. You'll be pleasantly surprised that while all their songs sound like Nightwish, no two really sound alike. I found Nightwish only 6 months ago and they instantly became my favorite band of all time - and I don't consider myself a metal fan! So much so, I went to see them live recently, and was blown away. Greatest show I have ever seen. The band is tight, as you say, and Floor is absolutely spellbinding. Such charisma, stage presence, engagement. She gestures for you to clap or cheer, you do - and you can see what it means to her that you do! Amazing live performance. Any of them.

Anything from Wacken 2013, Tampere 2015, Wembleyb2016, Buenos Aires 2018 and Hellfest 2022 are pure gold.

The unique thing about the prolonged duet of wails near the end is that they both start low and begin to rise in pitch, come to one peak, then Marco dives back down while Floor goes even higher, before she too does a little fall...That is really clever and just different...

Man, you should really listen to (at least) the Ghost Love Score version of this concert (Wacken 2013). It is the definitive version, Floor gives it the ending / finale / crescendo it deserves.

The drummer, Jukka, is a serious beast. This song is a tour d' force of the members of the band. A nice soft gentle tune that hits you like a pool cue to the teeth.

Yep. Note that Jukka doesn’t use a double pedal as such, but actually has two base drums with separate pedals. Kai uses the same base drum setup with Nightwish (at least in so far I noticed in the videos I have seen).

Great reaction Bob. All the singers have their place in the history of NW, and major respect to Tarja and Anette, But if you decide to pursue you NW adventure, I'm pretty sure you'll realise the amazing diversity of Floor...

So need to watch the version of Ghost Love Score from this same concert with Floor!! :)

Floor Jansen is awesome, she only showed a very small part of her vocal ability in this song. You barely scratched the surface here. And I you said you did Ghost Love Score with Tarja .. Floor added extra notes to the ending of that song, making it even more epic. The Wacken version of this song is now NW's official live video. I saw her hit these notes 2 wks back in 80+ degrees weather at Pinkpop ❤️🤘🏽

@@bobcieslinski you’re 100% right to not compare floor and tarja. I started listening with floor and went back to listen to tarja. I had no idea what the hell she was singing and it was like nails on a chalkboard. But now I have found songs that I like tarjas version more than floors. That being said floor is definitely more versatile than tarja, but tarja is still a top notch singer. Floor sings from her toes and the top of her head back and forth 20 times a song. She’s all over her range, where tarja is an operatic singer. Doesn’t make her Less than, just different. Edit this band didn’t get to where it is having shitty singers. I cut Annette some slack because she was just not a right fit from the start. I actually feel bad that she had to follow tarja. Not many could do that. Her studio stuff was ok but her live stuff was painful to watch, I’m not gonna lie. But she’s on her own and still doing music so all in all everyone is happier. Well many happy hours listening to nightwish if you listen to more of their content. 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Hello Bob. It has been quite a while since your first Nightwish reaction, but I'm happy to see you're back listening to them. With Floor this time. Both Tarja and Floor are great singers. Where Tarja's style was mostly operatic, Floor shows a huge versatility with her singing. That versatility also goes for the songwriting and musicianship of the band. Hello Bob. I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja ) Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Great reaction! Im a huge fan from Nightwish since many years. Tuomas is such a genius, his music is absolutely incredible. Floor Jansen is sure on of the best femals singers today. All the musicans from Nightwish are on a phänomenal high level. I see you like good music, so would suggest to make a reaction to the song "The greatest show on earth" live in Tampere 2015. Its a more than 20 minutes long epic song about life on earth. Eventually do some reserch about this opus before. For me its the one of the best performances i have ever seen!

I also agree. Tarja was fine as a starting point for the band In the beginning. I feel like she lacked that special spark and sound that Floor has. Annette, the second singer, I also felt was great. Better than Tarja in my opinion, but she had more of a pop sound. Floor, she's taken the band to a whole new level! Her style, her beauty, her sound is brilliant and is a perfect match for the band. If you watch as many videos as I have of Nightwish, you can see the obvious progression from what was an OK band in the beginning, to the epic masterpiece it is today. The rest of the band members show it on their faces 😍 ♥ It's amazing to see.

For me Nightwish is my most favorite band and I am happy to discover them back when I was a teenager

Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves. Floor joined her first band (After Forever) at the very young age of 16. She also attended the Rock Academie in the Netherlands and studied opera and musical theater after that. Floor has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several Master vocal coaches (She is also a certified Master vocal coach). Floor can sing in multiple languages, styles and genres. She also speaks 5 languages. Floor often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. This Valkyrie goddess is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to Nightwish. The Band hired her in 2012 as a temporary replacement for their previous vocalist Anette Olson (2nd vocalist hired after the original Tarja) to finish out the North American tour. In 2013 Nightwish officially announced that Floor and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Troy Donockley are now permanent members of the band. Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. As you listen to more of Floor you will appreciate her more fully. Her range includes just about every possible style from operatic to metal scream. Ghost Love Score from Wacken lets her explore a few of them, and you can make a reasonable comparison to Tarja. When she joined the band Tuomas was able to release the brakes and write whatever he wanted, rather what he thought the singer could handle. Later creations of his have been deliberate challenges to Floor, and she has taken on and beaten every one of them.

Well done for returning to Nightwish with their third and most versatile singer, Floor Jansen. She also shows you how Ghost Love Score can be performed at this show with such variety. 15 songs and not one written for her. They were all written for the previous two singers, Tarja operatic style, and Anette quite pop and she nails them all. In this song the glissando hits D6. well within her range.

Floor is having the time of her life on that stage - it was her biggest show at that time (with the band only a few months) and she and her "brothers" gave a fantastic performance. In a recent interview she gave this show as one of her career highlights. Loved your reaction and insights. P.S. You shouldn't have mentioned "strengths AND WEAKNESSES" at the end - some crazies are likely to come after you demanding evidence of weakness lol.Good luck!

Check out floor in her previous bands After Forever and Revamp....And her side project she did called Northward. There you will hear floor in her operatic,high belt...gritty,angry and death metal growls. She is the Swiss Army Knife of female vocalists.

You should revisit Ghost Love Score. Floor has made it her song. Don't compare her to Tarja. Tarja has not been with the band for 17 years, but she is always missed. Floor's voice is more flexible than Tarja's. Not quite as operatic, which allows her to be able to sing more songs. Floor is my favorite, but that doesn't take anything away from Tarja and Anette.

Every time I listen to this song, it reminds me how much I am missing and will continue to miss Marco.

A few words about Nightwish (Floor Jansen) and more. Alan Dean Foster, the famous American fantasy and science fiction writer who applied his writing talent to such hits as Star Wars and Star Trek, maintains a music section on his blog. "There are many good singers, fewer great singers, and a very small number who are unique singers. Diana is a natural dramatic contralto. This is the lowest range for a female singer. Alan Foster writes further:: "Her first two-minute performance on the show (all the initial performances are brief) is of a very dark version of Elvis Presley’s “Can’tHelp Falling in Love.” I’m not sure what you anticipate hearing, but I guarantee it won’t be anything like what you expect. In your opinion, vocalists write their own music. By the way, Elvis Presley also performs a cover, read the story of the creation of Cant Help Falling in Love. More floor and nightwish please she also has solo work like phantom of the opera on beste zangers 2019. She sings it with the original dutch phantom. And they nightwish it up.

I'm 75. I've seen most of the greats live. Nightwish is the best band I've ever heard (well, LA and Berlin philharmonics, but still....).

A real shapeshifter. Try Song of myself 😎And that was not half of what she can do. You have heard Tarja on Ghost love score. When Floor does that one she actually sing the end her self. Tarja had a prerecorded choir at the end. 😳

The same choir is in the Floor version too but it is not as audible as it is in the Tarja version.

This is not a typical Nightwish song. Every song is different and each one an adventure.

Yes, Floor Jansen (pron: YAHN-Sehn) speaks better English than Tarja (pron: TAR-ee-Yuh) back in the day. You def liked that ending glissando she hit...take note that was in high harmony with bassist, Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah), who is a fantastic vocalist on his own, but perfect when singing with Floor. While he made beautiful.musuc with all 3 of the Nightwish female leads, Floor has the power to match him. To gear Anette, I suggest original video for Amaranth. But to be fair, Marko also sings in this band, and will blow your mind singing lead on the band's tribute to Pink Floyd with High Hopes, live End Of An Era 2005.

More Nightwish please. The Rabbit hole goes deep....

Floor has been creating a vocal encyclopedia from her early days to today, She had her own band Revamp the song Disdain at graspop is crazy. Don't go there just yet but when you want to see something quite different from Nightwish but still metal that's one of the ones to react to. Also, she appeared on Best Zangers in 2019 it's a Dutch tv show in Holland where she grew up. The show is an interesting concept. 7 singers come together, each week one artist is the feature artist. That artist sits in the seat of honor and the other 6 perform either songs from the artist or that are special to the artist. Floor found out her idol and inspiration Henk Port would be appearing on the show - he was the first artist honored. Floor sang Vile Je Lied (not sure I spelled that correctly as it was something special in his life, she added a twist. The entire series is great, try to find recordings that have the lead up to the songs as it helps put context on the songs. On that show alone she sand in German, Dutch, Spanish, and English. Darn near broke the internet when she teamed up with Henk to sing Phantom of the Opera. She has her own KZread channel with some amazing covers and is not working a solo project (writing the songs herself) album should be out by next Spring. Many of us have seen her sing in 8 languages. Just did the German show Sing Meinen Song - the German version of Beste Zangers even though I don't speak German her performances were moving. Still Nightwish is where she was born to be ... so much to the catalog and then all the bonus. I agree about comparing Tarja and Floor some fans take sides but they are both incredible. I was fortunate to see Nightwish in early May and it was one of the best shows I've seen. That's saying something considering I'm 63 - I grew up on late 60s-90s rock very few bands / artists from that period I didn't see live. The Beatles, Led Zep (4X), The Who, Grateful Dead, Rare Earth, Grand Funk Railroad, Sabbath, Queen (3X), Aerosmith, AC/DC, Rush, I could keep going - Nightwish is easily top 5 live perhaps I appreciate the talent more at this age. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Yeah, love this song, especially the guitar. Your point about having two awesome vocalists is so true. Tarja and Floor are both brilliant in different ways. You must do the Wacken 2013 version of Ghost Love Score, featuring Floor. And Dead Boy's Poem and Sleeping Sun, featuring Tarja.

Floor sings very clearly and alot of professionals like yourself pick up on that. That's our Queen!

Thanks for not comparing the 2, they aré great in their own and they aré even really good friends, which is fantástic as It makes the haters to deal with the idea that they aré not rivals, specially super Floor fans who can be very disrespectful to Tarja in a way when she was fundental for the band to exist, always trying to dowgrade her a little bit because she doesn't have Floor's voice range (she didn't need It to make the band what It ended up being) anyway, hope you keep enjoying the Nightwish journey with all 3 vocalists! If l can recommend songs, literally all song from this concert aré great (specially Storytime, Ghost Love Score, She's my sin, Everdream and Last ride of the day) End of an Era concert 2005 with Tarja Is pretty much the same, the whole concert Is amazing (specially Phantom of the Opera, Everdream, Nemo, I wish l had an Angel, Planet Hell, The Siren and Wishmaster)

Stick with Nightwish, it's a hell of a ride!

All Nightwish singers are good/great, but only Floor gives me goosebumbs.

Having two incredible singers is not a coincidence or surprise. (Nor is having Jukka and Kai as drummers.) If you are a world class (or above) singer, you will want to work with Tuomas. There is no point in applying for a job in NW is you are just a very good singer/instrumentalist.

I would give this band a try is a bit heavier than nightwish but so good I think you will like it, this is a good song to start with they sing here with a live orchestra and choir! EPICA - Unleashed (OFFICIAL LIVE)

This is one of the heaviest songs from Nightwish. Most are more melodic and not quite so heavy & aggressive. Tarja is much more opera style. Floor can do it all and even holds her own on operatic styles. You need to check out more from Floor to understand what she is capable of vocally. Her range is from C3 to around G5, or maybe a little higher in mixed head and chest voice.

You should watch "Greatest show on earth" from Tampere. How they time fireworks to the music is spectacular and really unreal

Please don't do any comparison between the 3 different Nightwish singers - it is 3 different styles - but there are a reason why Floor is their current singers, she is the perfect match to Tuomas's compositions and lyrics. Her interpretations of his work are enhancing his stories. And don't be mistaken - Floor are the greatest storyteller ever - she is the full package XXXL plus. The stage and the dialog and the control over the audience is her natural environment - just like her being at home with her family and animals in the wild nature. If you dive into Tuomas's lyrics, you will find complexed and incredible work and stories, wrapped in poetry, quotes from scientists, authors and poets. This band are alone up there in breaking new land of music. So please follow-up on Nightwish by doing it following the timeline!! Wacken 2013 Wembley 2015 Tampere 2015 Buenos Aires 2018 Human Nature 2020 Hellfest concert from 2022 And a big welcome to the Nightwish Universe with the current lead- and storyteller Floor Jansen. Great reaction..definitely use Gabriel’s list if you decide to react to more NightWish,they’re the best versions for sound quality,performance etc.

I would suggest Dead Boys Poem for a completely different facet of NW and Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean as a masterclass in vocal breath control.

Keep going brother. You have so much more to discover. Way more with NW and Floor.

Romanticide is one of my favorites from them, it's so hard for me not to headbang as hard as their crowd (I have neurological issues so, that is a definite NOPE from my doctors, though I always bend the rules a bit) Anette is better for studio versions than live, my favorites of her are Scaretale, Sahara and Meadows of Heaven

I absolutely love all the singers, so I’m not going there. Let’s just say that some variety would be nice if you’re going to do more. Because 1) The flavour of the eras are different and 2) watching the different band interactions and interpretations are fun. That said, Nightwish is variety personified over all and within the eras. They have a signature sound, but evolves even today covering different styles. Gabriel’s list is truly the best guide.

GLS with Floor (at Wacken) has become the standard version. You should watch even if only in your own time. Oh and it's Yahn-sun. Dont forget Marcos vocals - Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires concert. And Floor has dozens of styles. A lot for you to discover yet. I'm not sure where Floor's weaknesses are... Hey Bob. I hadn’t watched many of your videos recently because I was tied up with a big symphonic concert. Just finished the final show last night with Also Sprach Zarathustra, Grand Canyon Suite and a choral piece “Sunrise.” Great reaction and analysis as always. It’s true that it’s really not fair to compare Tarja and Floor, 2 different style of singers. I prefer to think of it as there are some songs I like Floor singing and others I like Tarja. I absolutely love seeing Jukka play. It’s like his whole body is the music, if that makes sense.

I totally get the being tied up. I’m kinda drained right now because we are in full concert Oreo season with our concert being on April 25th. I teach elementary so there a lot of extra little things that they need from me. That’s some major music you were playing. Yep I think both are incredible singers just different styles. Tarja had a great role in Nightwish but IMHO, Floor is the Goddess, the G.O.A.T. and “yes” Floor can sing that phone book and blow your mind 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Hint on saying the names - "TarYa" and "Yansen"... cant EVER forget Jukka on drums! say it "Yooka". Another vote for GLS at Wacken ("Vacken") there they have 2000 people most of the year - but 82,000 at that concert!.... Marko's "Woof!" and the pyros!... then he sings! bars?! 7:25 - 7:35 Floor raid siren D3 - G5 ? The best Nightwish is live Nightwish!... A good live Anette with Nightwish song - "Slow, Love, Slow": Live at Montreux 2012.

I may be mistaken, but I think Jukka uses two Tama 900Series HP900PN Iron Cobra power Glide Single Kick Drum Pedals. Just a fantastic drummer either way.

If you want it heavier: Yours is an empty hope from Wembley 2015. Or - even heavier - Floor and her former band ReVamp "Disdain" from Graspop 2010.

i came into nightwish with their original singer Tarja. I find her to be the "Carlotta" whereas their next singer, Annette Olsen" was more the "Christine". Floor? she is in a category of her own. By far the best singer the band has ever had.

I would recommend watching Ghost Love Score live from Wacken 2013 which is during this same concert. All of the Nightwish fans would watch that too. It would give you a direct comparison of singers. This is one of their harder songs. Btw Floor’s last name is pronounced Yansen. J is a y sound in Dutch. Most of the band is Finnish but she’s Dutch. She also is classically trained and has been a vocal coach. She can sing anything. She has new solo songs out on her KZread page that have a completely different sound than Nightwish.

Although Ghost Love Score with Tarja is great....consider to look at it again....Wacken 2013 Version with Floor. you know why when you looked at it...Tarja was great....and I still like to listen to her....but Floor....Floor is another level. For the rest: Follow Gabriels Advice. He KNOWS. Short recommendation: Everything from Wacken 2013.
