I remember the day we shot this vid. Miku complained that her feet hurt cos her new shoes were a size too small. Akane was trying to stop Kanami running around excitedly telling everybody how white everything was. MISA didn't say much at all apart from "Can i have a bottle of JB please" & saiki just said "Can we get on with it". But when filming started they all clicked into gear & at the end of the day when the vid was done i distinctly recall Saiki shouting "Where's the f'kin exit in this white box. Happy memories.😌

Akane had back issues back then..and so had a kind of slouched posture...She did get treatment for it and now sits more upright...While she was recovering..They had a male drummer stand in for her at at least one concert...Fans sent her drumsticks with messages of get well....She has become my No.1 drummer..I love her style and creativity...and all done with a beautiful smile.😁

Uncle Scottie, "Thrill" is the song that made so many of its fans jump down the "pigeon-hole (not rabbit-hole". Why do I say "pigeon-hole"? Miku Kobato, (she sears the red rose on her headdress) the band's founder, rhythm guitarist, and a force of nature thinks of herself as a reincarnated 810 year old pigeon. She ends every sentence with po (pigeon-speak). She is such a quirky, fun, and engaging personality, her fans can't help but love her. Her Miku's Magic Time (omajanai time) during their concerts gives the other members a break while she interacts with the audience, showing them the culture of Maid Cafes in Japan. The band members, during the break, do everything they can to disrupt her interaction, which most often leads to hilarity. The fans LOVE IT! That's one thing (along with their incredible musicianship and professionalism) make their live concerts so entertaining and fun. Suggestion, spend the money and attend one of their live concerts (I've been to two of them (at 75 years of age), and loved every second of it. I'm now a Maidiac for life.

Some drummers can over power or offer too much and infringe on a track. Akane always has that wonderful skill to offer just as much as is need to make a song stand out and support everything that is going on. I love her skill as a drummer and now we just love the enjoyment and smile she always has. Miku's backing vocals often are over looked. The emotion in a song is often offered up by her backing. Nowadays she also is a good rhythm guitarist as opposed to somebody who is just holding the guitar. Songs like Memorable is a great ballads or Rinne is a great old rock song. New live songs like Hate? also worth a watch. Another Japanese female rock band Trident are worth a listen as well.

This is the song (video) that put Band-Maid on the map. Akane (drummer) injured her back a long time ago. You will notice in this and other older vids that she has somewhat abrupt movements. After injuring her back, she changed how she beats the drum now to protect herself from re-injury. Of course, none of this is obvious in her actual playing, except visually. Although Miku (vocalist with guitar) is an accomplished guitartist now, thanks to all her hard work, and Kanami's (Lead Guitar) assistance, at this time it was just a prop. She couldn't play it. When they decided they needed a rhythm guitarist, Saiki (Lead vocalist) was asked if she would play it and said something to the effect of "I'm not going to learn it!" and that's when Miku decided that she needed to step up to the plate and get it done. Miku formed the band and brought Saiki on becasue although she felt she could do lead vocals, she wanted a stronger lead vocalist. Of course she did this was for the good of the band. A common theme in the all female Japanese band arena. They never overplay their part for attention (unlike many American bands) and everyone does exactly what they're suppose to.

I'm not a lover of describing any artist as being 'the best'. All Art is subjective, I'll just say that Misa is my favourite bassist supplanting Jack Bruce as my lifelong favourite since I first heard him in 1967. Tony Levin, Guy Pratt and Flea rounding off my favourite 5.

He has that picture posted on his X sight. Apparently he REALY liked her drumming. The music video that saved the band....and launched a pigeon into the rock and roll skies. They have worked very hard and come a long way. Miku had to learn how to play the guitar from Kanami, Saiki had to have throat surgery, and they still had to make sure that Akane had enough bananas and that Misa had enough drinks to stay in tune! They are so talented and you just can't go wrong with anything from them...although I would go for the official 'live' stuff as my favorites.

Thanks for keeping the Maids in rotation. The more you hear, the more you’ll understand why people are going bonkers over them. I’m a bassist myself and will say that MISA is definitely an interesting player with some techniques and style choices absolutely worthy of attention by bass players. She has pro level skills and Band Maid cannot be Band Maid without her. She is irreplaceable. That said, you won’t find her doing Geddy Lee speed runs or Marcus Miller thumping or Billy Sheehan theatrics. Band Maid music doesn’t call for it, but most importantly, each member of the band only plays what’s best for the song. They never “show off…just because.” One or two songs? 😐 You’re killing me here. You’re going to discover, eventually, that Band Maid sincerely have a ton of well-written, top ten-worthy songs. But I’ll respect your wishes. Here are two songs that appeal to both musicians and casual listeners: “DICE,” official music video “Blooming,” official music video You have no idea how hard that was.

If you want to see the bass player, Misa, watch NO GOD. Do the online version from several years ago for sound clarity and you'll get an inkling of what she's all about. The other one you could watch is Catharsis, a mostly acoustic live show from the Pandemic lockdown era too and you can check out her finger playing and her sense of melody. I think you might like it.

I believe "Thrill" is Band-Maid's first video. It might have been their last. "Thrill" was the B side to the single "Ai to Jōnetsu no Matador" ("Love, Passion, Matador"), a follow up to their debut EP "MAID IN JAPAN". The EP hadn't charted and the single seems to have been Platinum Passport's gage as to whether or not to continue with Band-Maid. The A side was a gentle and calm acoustic song. There are clues that some personnel at Platinum Passport (Band-Maid's talent agency) really thought that an acoustic group would be more marketable and they were steering Band-Maid in that direction. They scheduled a shoot for a video to promote the single. When Band-Maid arrived at the set, they had decided they wanted to shoot "Thrill" rather than the A side; "Thrill" rocked and it was the direction that the Maid's really wanted to go. Initially the video didn't get much attention, but then it was posted on a Facebook J-Rock page and went viral. Much to everyone's surprise. What Band-Maid did not find out until much later was that their management had already decided to disband them BEFORE the video shoot, but weren't saying anything until after all the band's contractual obligations were fulfilled. But when the video went viral, the decision was reversed. It is rumored that the Band-Maid song "I Still Seek Revenge" was written in response to their discovery of that fact.

May I suggest another female Japanese rock band."TRiDENT"..they are my No.2 band behind BAND-MAID. A wonderful trio of ladies... Asaka (vocals, lead guitar) Serina (bass, backing vocals) Nagisa (drums)....Once the band of female drummer, JUNNA...They were called "Girls Rock Band Kakumei"..but changed to "TRiDENT" when drummer JUNNA left in 2020...Nagisa her replacement maybe a better fit for the band and has plenty of talent behind the kit...JUNNA was kind of stealing the limelight?..though I don't think that's her fault...She left to become a studio session, solo drummer....Tracks to check out. "Ambivalent" Live at Zepp..."Cry Out".."SPOOPY".."Neo Future"..from their days with JUNNA.."Voltage"...."STEP by STEP"..They have a summer fun feel with tracks like "Splash" or "DISTINATION"...You can hear some of that feel from "STEP by STEP" in their lastest track "KICKASS".

"Thrill" saved Band-Maid from obscurity as their record company was going to pull the plug on the band. This video was posted on Facebook then a short time later on KZread where it blew up in both platforms getting over 1million views in like a week and saved the band. Miku (rhythm guitar) did not know how to play guitar here. Look closely and you'll see she hardly strums a not, her "Rick" is just a prop. Some Maidiacs are blinded by their LOVE for MISA, but she is far from the "best" bassist in the world.

"best" anything is subjective...And for me, it isn't always about technical skill.

@@BodneybluePrecisely. I don't know who the world's 'best' bass player is, what it is about their playing that makes them the best and how far MISA would have to travel to arrive at the same place, but I'd be willing to learn. I think it kind of misses the point though.

OK--Here is what they ALL miss !---musicians ,reacters, audio freaks of every sort:---IT IS THE VISUALS, stupid ! Visually, it was Thrill that made the big break for Bandmaid. The song is good, the playing (as always ,with bandMaid !) is great, and in every major way, Thrill continued the ongoing but slow rise of Bandmaid. EXCEPT---it somehow made a major watershed----everything before divided from everything afterward. What happened ?..................... the visuals !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --------The outfits----they were suddenly brilliant in red and white ! -------The stage-----they suddenly hit us in the face because of the abstraction---the ABSENCE of any other visual thing but the band! --------The accessibility !---they all, including the drummer---were right up front ,bold and bright. ---------And it was this avant-garde abstraction that just shot them into prominence,,,,it made them visually stark and cool and surreally different from every other band out there ! But no one in the music biz sees this---they can't appreciate it. WHY ?---because the explanation is out of their musical reach. Because the explanation is NOT a musical explanation . IT IS VISUAL !! Time to give credit to whoever designed this set, costumes, and camera work. Of course ,it is the music that fundamentally matters most---but it was not getting them the attention they deserved. It was the visual artists, this time---not the audio artists---that made the difference .

“Shambles.” The most recent music video. Compare it to ‘Thrill’ to see how much the band has improved in 10 years. BTW, it’s pigeon hole not rabbit hole. Just ask any Maidiac for clarification.

Had 'Thrill' not gone viral their label was all set to cut them loose. Fortunately for all, it did and the rest is history. Is MISA the best bassist in the world? That would probably be Fami, who recently took over bass duties for LOVEBITES. Fami over plays. But LOVEBITES is a noodling showoff band, so she's perfect for them. MISA has more tasteful playing. Check out 'Hate?' LIVE from the same show you did 'Don't You Tell ME' The 10 Year Anniversary Tour Finale at Yokohama Arena. It has a great Call & Response "Battle".

Nobody is the best bass player in the world. Unless you set some parameters. For example, Flea is the best bass player in the world at changing a tire. He's been timed in an international tire changing competition and was able to do it the fastest. When we talk about music terms like "best" are completely meaningless. Misa is definitely one of my favorites though! Aaaaand... now I've done a silly rant about the implied subjective nature of music appreciation that nobody wanted.

I have to admit it. I completely made that up. I really have no idea if Flea can change a tire.

Double bass used selectively and creatively for good of the song. I like some metal, but after 8 minutes of double kick I switch off.

This is of their second album, which was still more classic hard-rock oriented. I would suggest "Manners" (esp. if you like a heavy groove), or "DICE" next; for both of those I find the official MV actually better than the live versions. Manners has a blues-rock groove, DICE has a bit more of a punk-rock vibe.
