BAND MAID - CHOOSE ME - DRUMMER REACTS

Музыка

Hello Drum Nerds, hope you're well. Enjoy today's video BAND MAID - CHOOSE ME - DRUMMER REACTS
It's been a minute since I've looked at any Band Maid, so this makes for a refreshing change of pace. I have to admit, it was a slow, dull and hot day but once I heard this song (in making the video) I was immediately uplifted!
The drum features in this song are superb, with a constantly returning 2 bar drum fill, an excellent breakdown with the floor tom and just stunningly steady groove.

A few years ago I was able to see Band Maid live in Paris. The location was a kind of a bunker. I had the opportunity to look sideways at the stage for the last few songs. What I saw there a was incredible. Akane's skills were on full display. She is really a monster on Drums.

  • @greylocke100

When she first joined Band Maid she used one tom. She added the second during the recording of New Beginning. That is when she also started adding digital triggers. As Art Vader says below as I type this, Akane uses a Roland TM-1 and she also has 5 triggers on her kit. Or she did. She used to have one tucked under her China, but now she has replaced that with a cowbell, she also used to have a 2 switch foot trigger behind her hi-hat and left kick pedal for starting and stopping the Click Track, and the Backing Tracks, to the left of her snare and hi-hat there is her Roland, underneath is the snare that came with her Tama kit which has been converted to a triggered unit, and I've seen 2 photos taken from behind Akane as she plays which show what looks like to be a 3 pad trigger unit to the right of her hi-hat in between it and the rack toms. I didn't see it in any photos taken after the Line Cube Shibuya concert though, so I don't know if it's been replaced or she moved it, or got rid of it. I've also seen a few photo's of Akane with snare travel cases marked with Ludwig, Tama and Pearl. Although it has been noted that in 2 interviews Akane says she uses the Ludwig for her main snare, and will occasionally use the Tama, or a Gretsch. So the Pearl case may have been used to transport the Gretsch snare. Or her cymbals.

"Choose Me"-- a song featured in the Netflix original movie "KATE" as BAND MAID, has so many great RnR chops, it's kinda unbelievable. From Saiki's old-school phrasing, cadence and a super soulful vocal at the end; MISA's driving bass, her special riff after Kanami's brilliant, rocking main solo (complete with harmonic pinch), and her pulls at the end of the song that really funks it up with Akane's drumming; to Kanami's original composition, off-beat octave stretches during the verses, and her addition of a second uncomplicated yet super tasty solo; to Akane's unique snare & tom flurry that launches the choruses; and to Miku's octave-down, in & out vocal backup and lyrics... all makes "Choose Me" a throwback rocker that surprised me when I first heard it - and I'll bet most anyone - that they would come up with this western-style, rock 'n roll classic. Of course, after years later, it's not surprising at all coming from this important band of geniuses who are almost single-handedly bringing back the joys and soulfulness of rock for people from all places and ages to hear. Here's a great live MV of "Choose Me" that's not quite as punchy do to the mix, but still good: kzread.info/dash/bejne/epely9abiMrPl7g.html Thx, Colin!

I highly recommend you listen to "secret My lips". Akane is amazing on that song. Better yet, listen to all their songs. Akane is my favorite rock drummer. She is so good, so musical and so fun to listen to. Akane is a happy drummer. There are so many amazing female rock drummers from Japan - Tamu Murata of Nemophila, Haruna of Lovebites, Nagisa of Trident, Juuna (ex. trident) and so on. But, I love the sound of Akane's drums the best. She makes such crisp and clean sound yet fun and joy to listen to.

i love the way Akane is like i drum robot turned off at the beginning then she switches on and rock and roll ensues. This is back when they were perfecting the machine and I think before Akane retooled her style to be able to play without hurting her back and of course went next level. Check out Alone sometime its the first track they wrote that made it on a record and Akane flippin kills it.

I'm no percussion expert (far from it). Akane is not just about beating the life out of her kit (although she sometimes treats it like it stole her bananas). She writes all of her percussion longhand onto sheet music ALL OF IT. None of her fills are done by chance and she keeps better time than anatomic clock. In fact MISA the bass (goddess) player says she plays bare foot so she can feel the kick of Akanes drums so she can keep in time with her. Akane bends time signatures to her will you will find yourself trying to keep up with how many timing shifts she goes through in one track. Then there is the track "Rinne"............."Blackhole" will annihilate any idea you have of structured rock music as you fall into the event horizon.
