But that's not considered 'destroyed', is it? If the effect was simply 'sent to the graveyard' that would be a good play, using it as a wall until you get the necessary cards, and get free burn damage.

Yeah, I use it gx duel academy. It's good enough because I try to run whole archetype decks. And there are not many dinosaurs in that game to begin with let alone ones with high defense.

So... I think everyone is missing an important part of the card, balloon lizard just wants *any* counter on it not a specific one. Say for example you get the alien rank 2 on the field and discard alien mother, you can put 6 counters on balloon lizard instantly as a quick effect. Sure doesn't sound like much, but its a funny play to wait for your opponent to try to destroy it or attack it , then chain the alien in order to sucker punch them for 2400

@@paulitics6931 I don't know, I never tested it. But if regular counters without a defined name on it do count as a unique classification of counter, then yeah I guess it wouldn't work. Still by the wording, it should work, since the balloon lizard doesn't specify what counters it needs to use it's second effect, and similar cards like counter cleaner will use the general term of 'counters' to apply to all types of counters.

Not to mention there would be no way to go over it unless you either tribute summoned for curse of dragon or better, or if you added sword of dark destruction to baron of the fiend sword or better. I am going by the 'lob format' which specifies the first ever cards released in the states, lob itself, starter deck yugi and starter deck kaiba. Not sure if the forbidden memories/dark duel stories cards count.

@@hawshimagical highest atk was 1550 and only way it coulda beaten over balloon lizard is if you equipped multiple follow winds or have 1 and mountain. then again first set had raigeki i believe(im not sure)

Considering it can use ANY counter, it can be exploited by Aliens. Aliens are probably THE best reptile build out there, and center around counter generation upon monster cards from either field.

Nope, counters do not work like that. If a card doesn't specify a type of counters, it will only count the one it generates itself when resolving its effect.

Yado Karu lets you undraw Garnets. It's niche, but it can unscrew you if you really needed those cards to be in your deck to search them instead of in your hand.

Why would you ever use that over Magical Mallet, Reload, or (depending on the card in question) pot of avarice? Even pot of Generosity is better. Because if your plan involves ripping your hand apart to put cards back in the deck, the pot is at least a spell that doesn’t take up a summon or a second turn.

@@enlongjones2394 Because Yado guarantees that you won't draw those garnets, while with Reload and Magical mallet you still have a chance to redraw them.

Ogdoadic support works for all reptile cards, so throwing Balloon Lizard in an Ogdoadic engine let's you search and special summon it really easily

Bro you have mad patients if you actually did that strat, I would actually love to see the replay of that duel to set up that OTK. Great video, looking forward to the next one

I don’t think you can save replays from Solo Mode, but I just kept playing until I had game on board and then started a screen recording 😂 Going online in Casual Mode, it DID NOT WORK 💀

Balloon Lizard was a staple of my old "Trap Deck"- he synergized perfectly with Level Limit Area B, and the numerous stall traps I was running kept him alive long enough to generate counters. And his tiny extra bit of burn (often combined with Dark Room Of Nightmare) did a good job of helping my other burn cards in the deck to close out games.

When me and my friend played yugioh when we were kids we didn’t know the rules and I had ballon lizard in my collection and ballon lizards effect we gave it was to just destroy it immediately if there was no helium card used

Cards like this is why I say Yu-Gi-Oh needs to up their mechnics and phases in games. Cards that hold counters are so slow if they don't come out with them. I've ALWAYS said that Yu-Gi-Oh should have a "Counter Phase" to help cards with counters. The hypothetical Counter Phase would come after the Draw Phase, but before the Standby Phase. And in the Counter Phase, you're optionally allowed to put a counter on every card that can either produce a counter through an effect it has or list that it can hold or give counters through it's text. If the card produces counters of a specific kind, you can put THAT kind of counter on it or other cards through the Counter Phase. It would help so many decks and cards, as well as be fun to mess around with knowing you'll have a refillable counter source to make your effects faster or last longer if they have to deal with counters.

Kind of unique idea to have a counter phase. Some old archetypes will benefit from it, like cloudians, aliens, b.e.s machines, etc.

@@typo993 Those decks were exactly the types of decks I was thinking about when I said it. Althought it wouldn't be game breaking, those decks would still flourish. It's clear those deck would still stuggle, but people would still see them as fun to play if they were getting faster or constant renewable resources they can plan around. It would be something to look forward to in decks that could use it and future archetypes that would be planned around counters.

The problem is, not all counter cards do so at a slow and steady rate. In fact most are conditional acquisitions based on someone doing something (summoning a Six Sam, taking damage, activating a spell, etc).

Use Book of Solomon with this monster (it skips your own Standby Phase thereby sabotaging the strategy even more).

Yadu Karu is a card that was originally comboed with Card Destruction. If you put your hand on the bottom of the deck and then activate card destruction you get to draw a new hand and saved the cards you don't want to discard.

@@NamePending9 correct. But it saves important cards. It was very hard to play with the discard pile in original TCG. Most monsters were vanilla then. So saving a card from going to a pile that has a 99% chance of not coming back can make a huge difference. Plus the next turn you can use something that allows you to shuffle the deck and then they are no longer on the bottom.

I remember I used to play this card with things like Granadora and Pineapple Blast. Good times.

At least Yado Karu can help you rip Garnets out of your hand and put them back into the deck where you want them. It's keeping it alive for a turn to change it to Defense Position on the next turn that's the hard part.

@@FatherOfGray I use Yado Kuro in my "bad cards gimmick deck" on Legacy of the Duelist. I once used it to shuffle all my cards in my hand to the deck except Goddess Of Sweet Revenge.

i was gonna defend this by saying it can be summoned with broken blocker to maybe have 1 or 2 lizards on your turn but broken blocker can also summon injection fairy lily if you want massive damage

Does it use a specific counter or any counter if so doesn't that mean you could place any Counters in the game on it then crash for game?

This card was a life saver in duel links. I had no other cards that could deal 2000 effect damage in one shot to complete my quest.

Yado Karuo can be used if you draw a Garnet, a card that you need in your deck to use, but not much good in your hand.

And I believe Wall Shadow as well needs to be in deck for Magical Labyrinth.

You don't need to OTK with it, just to finish them off after a lengthy battle.

So no dumb ones like Marinecess who do not fit in artwise with every other monster type in that Theme. For some reason Konami just want them to be a weaker version of Chaos decks all around the Snake Rain card which no decks outside Venoms or Worms used. They hate Reprinting Reptile cards into Holo's or at all too. As for this card not even Reptile focused decks used it.

@@thiagodias5530 Just Erata it they did with Future Fusion which was used in Reptile Worm deck to get out Worm Zero and boost attack of Worm Victory and.Snake rain did that for worms too.

It's even worse as you describe because it has to be 'destroyed' by an opponents card to trigger the damage effect. So even if you managed to get enough counters on one or more of them, the opponent could still avoid triggering the damage to themselves in multiple ways. Keep their monsters in defense and not attack them, use non-destruction removal effects like banishing, bouncing or spinning them back. And with some commonly played meta cards, a Kaiju, Lava Golem, Sphere Mode, or SuperPoly could just tribute/fuse them away without triggering any sort of destruction thus making all the stalling pointless. Also since it triggers the damage based on which player's card destroyed it, you can't trigger it with your own effects such as Dark Hole otherwise you take all the damage yourself. Obviously equally bad cards out there but this one is definitely high up there.

That would be my favorite card in old yugioh with limit are B machine or limit of one thousand eyes. I had 3 in the field after a lot turns , in syncro time i used to use stardust dragon to save my traps or spell continuos since metamorphosis was banned. Magical android really helped to that deck for solemen judgment.

Hello, it's my first time over this channel but i've played Yugioh since Pharaoh Servant, and o gorra say i played different kinds of OTK buildups. In My case with Balloon Lizard i did It by not only placed the Lizard for an OTK but also for setting spatial collapse. Well, in case that you took suggestions for future videos, you should try The Venom Burn OTK. It's easier to perform than balloon Lizard OTK, but still a good Challenge. 😎

Yado Karu has a niche for cards that need to search fr their effects to go off or simply have a card in deck to work. Don't want to pull 3 Garnets all the time. But then you can't change a card from attack to defense when you first summon it... until the next turn. Shenanigans.

Ok so I need to make a balloon lizard OTK stall deck

This and Pineapple Blast are cards I wish I could get to work how I wanted it to.

I used it in my trash rock deck while playing yugioh single player games, to role play as one of the casual duelists in the setting. Like a normal dude in 5D's won't have Stardust dragon, or in Yugioh the original series you wouldn't pull up with a full archetype.

Personally, I don't think it's fair to call this one of the worst cards. I feel the goal at the time of its creation was to make something somewhat defensive against most non-tribute normal summonable monsters and would "punish" the opponent for dealing with it with some mostly minor burn damage. That being said, I feel this card was out-classed sinced day 1 of its release, let alone today's cards. 😂Stealth Bird, while weaker defensivelly, does more damage asap, so it at least still fits with a stall burn stratedgy. This was also in the same set of the Chaos monsters, three of which could just run over it, if not just banish it up with their effects to avoid the burn damage. Not to mention all the previous removal options released during and before Invasion of Chaos that could kill it before it became a problem. I just cannot imagine a game where someone let a few Balloon Lizards live long enough to kill them during Invasion of Chaos' time. As for other terrible cards, I was going say Flame Spirit Ignis, but apparently that card finally has a niche in being in cheeky FTK decks.

My same thoughts, ygo back in the day was more of a race rather than securing a winning board like it's today, this card saw some play because it had enough defense to stall most monsters back then and probably reflect some damage in the process, balloon lizard unlike most squishy damage dealer monsters like princess of tsurugi or giant germ can potentially stay on the field for longer unless your opponent waste a precious removal card on it or summon a boss monster, while not the best, the card did it's job of being stalling annoying card in casual play burn decks, a very decent common.

could you maybe make a video on cards with different effects from their appearance in the anime?

It's not even close to the worst card. Worst case it is a 1900 DEf lv4 Vanillia. Every vanillia with lower stats is worse.

To me, it's best use is on Decks which abuse of Arcana Force XXI - The World, of skipping your opponent's turn.

Needle Ball is much worse than this card, since this card can work in a stall deck. But Needle Ball literally makes you pay 2000 LP to only deal 1000 to your opponent

It CANT attack the turn is summoned, if you NEED spell counters DURING BOTH TURNS, or it dies To me thats the worst card

I use this in a stall/burn deck I made from random cards.

I can certainly be used in Rush Duel.

Im just dissapointed it is not Wind atribute... Or at least Fire.

Hmmmm, nawh, Larvae Moth and Yado Karu are worse, at least Balloon Lizard has decent defense and does SOME damage. To me there is a difference between a card that has a weak effect not worth building a deck around and a card you should never use because the effect is worthless.

it's a monster with a win condition strapped to it, just cause you are looking at it from 2023 eyes doesnt mean it wasnt playable back in the day, expecially with 1900 defence
