    There seems to be a strong theme of parasitism/invasion/autonomy in the game, with all the tadpoles plus stuff like the infernal engine, vampirism etc. I know this partially continues the themes of the Bhaalspawn story from the first two games, but it feels like it's going beyond that.

    The Baldur's Gate games are set in the same Dungeons and Dragons world as the movie Honor Among Thieves. The first two games are set little more than 120 years before Honor Among Thieves and Baldur's Gate 3. Edit: That also includes the Neverwinter MMO, the Neverwinter Nights games, R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt books and Ed Greenwood's books about Simon's ancestor Elminster.

    If you're interested in the lore, Baldur's Gate is set in a Dungeons & Dragons setting called the Forgotten Realms, which has itself plenty of other content to dive into. Including, as mentioned, the recent Honor Among Thieves film but also a lot of older games and books. I'd recommend the Legend of Drizzt book series if you're into reading novels. They are fun easy reads ;)

    More specifically about warlock pacts, some language suggests that it depends on the specifics of the term of the pact if the power can be rescinded by the provider, and some pacts are written such that the warlock's side is fulfilled at the point of signing the pact and then they're free to go do whatever with their new power without breaching it (for example, Mammon lets you simply _buy_ a pact with gold. Lots of gold, but still only an upfront payment).

    My first playthrough will most likely be a custom character. I like the origin stories but this is an RPG and I enjoy creating my own character and roleplay my way through too much to give that up in favour of a more "cinematic" experience. I know I'd be able to also roleplay the origin characters in any way I want but since they already have a backstory and defined personality, it feels more natural to me to just create my own character filling the role I want to play instead of forcing one of them into it. I'll eventually try them out to experience their story in first person though.

    My first party will probably consist of a full custom character (I love the Dark Urge already, but wanna see what's new for Tav first), Shadowheart (who I think has a bombshell of a plottwist waiting in her story), Karlach (I quite like her ferocious but well-meaning personality so far, and she'll make a fine substitute for Lae'Zel), and probably Wyll (he's my least favourite origin character so far, so I want to see how Larian changed his writing). Do note: just because Wyll is my least favourite, it doesn't mean I hate him. It's simply that I find the likes of Gale and Astarion much more fun to be around, and Shadowheart and Lae'zel offer distinct party benefits other characters can't. Wyll...kinda just comes off as a bit boring at first, although I have enjoyed speculating about the nature of his pact and how he, despite being arguably the most good-natured of the group, probably can't be trusted.

    I don't know how well they will manage the self imposed task, at the end, but here Larian is saying they've made the c-RPG that plays like ALL other c-RPGs ever published, combined, you chose the way: - blank slate main character with blank slate companions - blank slate main character with regular companions with side stories - blank slate main character with origin character companions, which you can keep, substitute or kill - all of the above with Dark Urge playing character, which is half blank slate and half written with choices - all of the above with origin character as playing character (multiplied by the number of available origin characters). ...Talk about re-playability. Thanks for your videos!

  • @Pedone_Rosso

    @Pedone_Rosso

    10 ай бұрын

    BTW, if just half of it works, this is already a milestone title in the history of c-RPGs. With a game of so many connected moving parts, I'd call a "flawless" launch if they limit major bugs to: - 1 or 2 game breakers that get patched fast with save file recovery, - and 3 to 5 broken quests that don't brake the game (i.e. side story companion with broken personal quest, hopefully not an origin character: you can still get rid of the character, add in a good fit for your party, and play it from scratch once it's fixed). I would be also a bit surprised if there won't be any material for bloopers videos during cut-scenes, with characters clipping in or out of your field of view and the likes. I'm loving this game already... won't preorder anyway, because a good rule is a rule.

    Last time I remember playing the first patch of Early access it was really difficult to keep Laezel happy (due to her pragmatic nature) and since I like playing goodie two shoes (For the most part) I was afraid that she was going to leave my party for me wanting to help everyone I encountered and I would be without a frontline "tank". Astarion is a bit hit or miss for me and so is Wyll (he doesn't bring much to the table either). The only companions I'm interested in are Shadowheart, Gale, Laezel and Karlach and majority of them will be removed from my party permanently once I can recruit Jaheira and Minsc so I gotta prepare my character to do the rogue`y job early. The Dark Urge as a origin feels very interesting to me, because it comes with both a mysterious backstory (supposedly) and you can also make it a custom character so it's best of both worlds so to speak. I would be interested to play a Seldarine Drow as a Dark Urge and attempt to suppress the murder thoughts every chance I get. (mostly because evil playthroughs are not really my thing at all).

    I vastly prefer the DA system to the one in BG3. DA Origin stories gave you just enough connection to the world to give you a backstory, while still allowing you to play the character you wanted. Larian's Origin characters are just prewritten characters, with their own personalities and names. The only one which is similar is Dark Urge, which I like for this reason alone (tho I dislike murderhoboing in games so...). I really hope there will be either a) something unique to Tav aka the custom character so that playing him doesn't just result in less content (as was the case with custom characters in Divinity Original Sin 2) b) another, less murdery origin similar to Dark Urge

    @@jackdunc I'd like that to be the case, but it wasn't in DOS2 so that's where my worries come from To clarify: you obviously can act in a way contrary to the pre-written character, but that doesn't negate their personality. It's like in Witcher 3, where you *can* act contrary to Geralt's personality, but you're still playing Geralt and so those choices often feel arbitrary. Compare to, for example, DA:O where you are presented with a set of choices that are equally plausible.

    Besides Dark Urge, you can still play a regular custom character, called Tav by default. Somehow no one mentiones that, and even Larian never mentioned it during the last panel from hell. Both Tav and Dark Urge are completely customizable, but Dark Urge will have different, more dark actions and dialogue options, and some backstory. Judging by EA, there will be some different background options for Tav too, but it`s unclear whether he/she, too, will have anything unique.

    I surmise that being a very narative driven story it might be that the very best way the game is intended to play out is by actually choosing one of the origin stories to play as the main character. DOS2 was like this to an extent and it paid off experience wise to be one of the pre-made characters. Also it adds replayability in the sense that next time around instead of making char x MC you do char Y and make all the relevant choices for that char and see the story play out that way. its a ton of fun for sure.

I will miss his personality I saw in his introduction since he became a silent character. I love the concept of the dark urge because whenever in divinity original sin 2 there was basically zero reason to go custom character in regards to getting content and often when playing an origin character in divinity original sin 2 it felt as if I was making a choice the my origin character would never make but I went with an origin character because of the extra content but the dark urge and being able to bring all companions with you past act 1 solves all that while giving you origin content so even if you go custom you wont feel as if you missed out .

Maybe some DLC characters are planned or more companions will be revealed throughout the game but as it stands I'm a little disappointed.. Collectively, theres 4 elf variants, 3 humans. Thats 7 of the 10 current companions that are the same in a world so vast of different races. No Drow (unless you like Minthara), halflings, dwarfs, orcs or gnomes as your origin/companion characters. As I said earlier though the stage they created for a lot of these characters are amazing so far but I had hoped for a little more variety. With that said though, that wont take away from how excited I am to play and complete multiple playthroughs of the game. Awesome video as usual !

    I hope at least some of them let you completely pick a class just because, if you played Divinity, custom characters tend to lose our story wise a lot.
