I was privileged to hear Orianthi play lead with Alice Cooper in Las Vegas last month. She is a fantastic show(wo)man, and REALLY rocked the house! I hope to continue to hear from her in the USA.

She is amazing, i always know a great player when i hear one, it brings chills to my spine, the music speaks to me and she is awesome!

It is really hard to find a guitarrist that can play like her. She does not only shred scales like zillions of guitarists do. She can play with a lot of expression , coherence , creativeness and articulation . That is why she is in "club" of famous virtuoso guitarists like Santana and Steve Vai and YOU do not. She takes this seriously and proved herself .

Dino R is right, i also have been playing foreover 40 years and this kid is pure talant at such a young age and if the like's of Santana, steve vai, Kirk Lorange and so on admire and endorse her skills with all their experience and cridentials then i guess they are out of their minds because mmojorissen clearly has more cloute and knowledge then some of the greatest guitar players alive. step up and cut heads with her or sit down and enjoy the show. :)

She has no "soul", At best, she's a shredder. Go buy an Orianthi CD and you'll eject it before you listen to the entire CD. Orianthi is fun to watch but not to listen too.

Play guitar for over 20 years then say "great talent". I'm sure you own ZERO Orianthi CD's. You can't see her playing when listening to a CD. I guarantee you wouldn't listen to the whole CD.

Name one song where she plays a deep, slow, and soulful guitar solo. She's a player we watch but we aren't listening to her in the car on a long drive.

I would beg to differ. She is more blues then rock. You need to hear Nita Straus who took her place for Alice Cooper.

She also played in Alice Coopers touring band for a couple of years

Kiana Shotgun is a beast on guitar. I wish she would a solo album so people could really hear some sick guitar.

I used to think Orianthi would be well-known guitarist but she hasn't produced any worthwhile originals. Even her solos are basic minor pentatonic scales. She still looks great and I see why a lot of artists welcome her on-stage.

By no means a comparison with the greaters, surely not. I'm not suggesting she's good in theory. She's just trying to make a living from her guitar, works hard and steps steadily upwards. This arguments about her pentatonics is as old as her career. She plays clean and straightforwardly and her technique is quite solid. I like to listen and watch her. Her appearance and PR is another subject, but overall a success. On the other hand what she screwed up recently is that she left Alice Cooper and went to those drunkard called R.Sambora. It's a pity...

Katip Karacahil Ori is good at playing cover songs. Paul Reed Smith brought her to the US to sell PRS guitars. If not for his 'marketing campaign', not of us would have ever heard of her. Lita Ford was a "badass female guitarist". Today, Gretchen Menn is a badass guitarist who happens to be female.

as much as I love my metal its not the faster you play the better you are, its all about smoothness, feeling and making your guitar talk....... I love them all

Orianthi is a great player. But there will always be a little bit of a problem here. She looks too good (and that's not intended as criticism). The problem is that, for heterosexual guys, it's hard to focus enough on her music because the visual is so interesting. But, hey, we should all have such problems :) Play on, Orianthi.

I had seen her videos before I saw her practicing with Michael Jackson so I knew she was great - so many great female guitarists on You Tube!

Nothing in your post refutes anything I said in my original post: " I am not going to say that Orianthi does not have guitar skills. What I am going to say is that, PRS & Michael Jackson both chose Orianthi, who just happened to be a smoking hot young babe (Exactly the same way Jackson also did with Jennifer Batten, back when she was also young and hot-Remember her?). So IF Orianthi was really chosen based on her guitar skills, that means that she is better than the plethora of guitar virtuosos in the world who have penises. -Does anybody really believe that? "

Mark Lowe Did you really just compare Orianthi's LOOKS to JEFF BECK??? And I never said she could not play; I said that the reason she has been so successful is that she is a hot young babe. And if you still doubt that, then think about this: Places like Julliard in NYC, Berklee in Boston, & GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology) in LA, are all FULL of the top young guitar virtuosos in this country, and that does not even include all young guitar virtuosos from OTHER countries. Nor does it include the MANY professional studio guitarists working in the industry, who themselves have decades more experience, and from whose ranks have come greats like Tommy Tedesco, Larry Carlton, & Steve Lukather, just to name a few. So when Michael Jackson selected his guitar players, he had this Cream of the Crop to choose from. Yet he nevertheless chose A Hot Young Babe, and he did this not ONCE, but TWICE-Remember Jennifer Batten? Can you explain that??? And I respect guys like Santana, but they must recognize that they are getting older, & so they need to associate themselves with somebody young, to stay connected to the younger crowd. So now IF you STILL actually believe that Orianthi has achieved all this success based on her technical skills, then I'll help you write you next letters to Santa Claus & the Easter Bunny ;-)

I sure did. Neither of their looks has anything to do with how well they play guitar. Every time a decent female musician gets attention all the "oh shes so hot" wankers come out. e.g. Tal Wilkenfeld, Candy Dulfer and so on. It's just my opinion but talk like that kind of infers or takes focus away from them being truly talented. It's a little pathetic.

You sure don't know anything about rock and blues guitar Scott. She is a superb electric guitar player and improviser. Would like to hear you play. I do believe that Carlos knows exactly what he is talking about, as do so many other fine musicians who agree. I'd be interested in who you think can play well

Jamie Rhind Idk about him. but, to me. this is so generic it's boring. The Pentatonic scale is something you learn quite early on. Santana is also pretty much the same in every song, there's no "HUGELY" different santana solo. A good guitarist to /ME/ (This is of course, just my opinion) Would be Shawn Lane or Guthrie Govan.

***** thanks for the thoughts Nathan. I've checked out your suggestions of Shawn and Guthrie and was really impressed with Guthrie's playing, as well as understanding of music. Saw a video where he discusses how to build solos from the pentatonic scale. Hadn't heard of him but will be looking to add some to my collection. In terms of playing, clearly everyone has developed their own ear and direction musicially, both from listening and performing. Her playing is deeply rooted in the pentatonic scale, and that for so many is important. The blues is a primary root of rock, and her interpretation of blues is superb. From the note choices to the bending to the emotional understanding - she gets an A+. And she has been a huge follower of Santana, which is cool too. One can hear it in her lines as well. Not just the Pentatonic scale but from the emotional side, which is so important. Carlos isn't know for his many notes, or being technically the most gifted. It is his sensitivity and phrasing that has so many people attached to him. And that is what really separates musicians - their ability to phrase. To me, she has a superior understanding of phrasing. Have to remember that she is only 24 or something like that, and her playing will mature over time. I used to study jazz with Emily Remler, who at the time was the finest female guitar player in the world, and one of the finest jazz guitarists. She used to tell me how difficult it was for her as a woman to have a voice in jazz, because it was so male dominated, and followers would listen to her differently, often not accepting her playing as as legit because she was a woman. I completely understand where she was coming from. Let's embrace what this young woman Orianthi has accomplished in a short time. There are far too many guys who think they can play the instrument well. She obviously can, and will grow and continue to blossom. Really love Guthrie. He is serious:) To answer my question, guys I follow most closely on guitar are Mike Stern, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Scott Henderson, Pat Martino, and a few others. So many great musicians

When Santana says “if I wanna pass the baton to somebody, Orianthis would be my first choice,” that says it all. I don’t know much about Orianthis, but when one of your all time heroes, someone with the legendary background as Santana says this so & so has got the mojo, you simply bow to the undisputed truth and you simply don’t argue.

She's been playing professionally since she was 14 or 15 from Australia to France and the US. She's played blues, country and rock, played for Carrie Underwood and Alice Cooper.
