I honestly think that Denny, especially after his back injury, has been a sleeper. He has run pretty good at several tracks and has run in the Championship several time. But..... He hasn't been extremely consistent like Harvick or Truex.

@RacingWorldTV202

I agree. He's not as much of a dominant force as he used to be before the wreck. Even though he has scored the two best average finishes for a season of his career in 2016 (11.8) and 2017 (11.6), and scored the most top tens (22) in each of those two years, the most laps he's led in a season was 710 (2017) and the most wins he's had in a season is 3 (2016). Before, Hamlin had seasons where he led 900+ laps in four years and won 4+ races in three of those four seasons (2009, 2010, 2012). While I believe that Hamlin is still a very good racecar driver, I wouldn't call him a great driver like his teammate Kyle Busch or Kevin Harvick, and I think that the injury took a good bit of that away from him.
@loominator9568
6 жыл бұрын
He’s back to being a top contender but he’s not nearly who he was in 2010 and 2012
So glad this crash didn't end his entire career. I don't think he ever really recovered from it but 2019 and 2020 Denny Hamlin has been such a treat to watch and I hope it continues for a couple more years. He is probably the only RELEVANT active driver right now that I'm a fan of. By relevant I mean up there and in contention to win every week.

Toyota 2007 would be an interesting long video for an anniversary or special vid or something. Just an idea
I feel like him losing the 2010 Championship and this season (not the injury of course) is loads of karma finally catching up to him. He hasn't changed much either since them.
Haha when chat spams, BFM delivers!
how about a different spin on this series called Weird Seasons: for example ryan newmans 2003 season where he won 7 or 8 times but had 1 flip and 2 or 3 near flips in the same year or mark martins 2009 season where he won 6 races but had a lot of big wrecks and a flip

Denny Hamlin got injured that season and he never really was the same and he just never was very happy in those years. He had terrible luck and he and Darian Grubb never really hit it off as a crew chief and driver combination. But his lack of success also had a lot to do with the injuries he suffered.

Who else hates this video because you like Hamlin
I just realized that this video was published on May 11th and Hamlin is number 11
This season played out very similar to Jimmie Johnsons 2017 season. Was doing very well then gets in a bad wreck and gets hurt (its never been stated that jimmie got hurt in that pocono wreck but with how dale jr described how he got his concussion in 2013 its sounds identical to how jimmie describes that wreck). After this both drivers got a crazy amount of dnf's and became non factors, only difference being hamlin got better and has had amazing seasons since.
Denny stayed in the throttle and ran himself into the inside wall. Joey spun him. Denny injured himself.

@@Austin_Windric So you're telling me Hamlin spun by himself and willingly went into the wall? Mate, there's some guy called Joey Logano, I don't know if you even saw him in the race, but he WENT UP INTO HAMLIN and made them both loose control, Denny tried to save his car from colliding with the inside wall, and failed. Also, if you're actually paying attention, he started braking way before wrecking into the wall. You guys like finding every single excuse to make it seem like Denny is the culprit in every situation he is involved, and as one wise Clint Bowyer once put it: "It's stupid! There's no sense in doing this". Stop.
People bump each other on purpose all the time, what's the big deal Joey bumped Hamlin. He didn't intend to hurt the guy, he intended to win that race.

that's not the thing that's made me loose respect for logano for this. its what denny said. is that he had no respect for dennys health after the wreck. you shouldn't wreck anyone on purpose being pissed or not. perfect example of why not to wreck someone on a track this big on purpose
@NASCARFAN93100
6 жыл бұрын
sevendoubletwo Hamlin and Logano were racing each other hard for the win at California on the last lap But I do believe Logano had intentions of wrecking Hamlin because of what happened the week prior at Bristol But I don't believe that he had those intentions on getting Hamlin injured
@MicroMindRyan
6 жыл бұрын
Hamlin stated clearly in his video that they don’t do it on tracks that exceed certain speeds. Auto Club is one of the fastest tracks on the circuit. Go back to the fued between Logano and Kenseth, between Logano taking Kenseth out, they raced that Talledega where Kenseth had plenty of opportunities to take out Logano but knew he very well could kill him there, so he waited for Martinsville.
Bad Season: Carl Edwards 2012
Even going winless in 2018 wasn't as bad as 2013, because Hamlin at least made it to the playoffs in 2018.

Nascar drivers, the good ones that is, take about 5 or 10 years to get what I call "legitimate " you have to land with the right team, right ride, right pit crew, crew chief, ect. Denny is in that prime age of his career. It's just a matter of time. Jimmie Johnson is one exception in recent memory though.
The thing with Hamlin is he was talking shit about Logano saying he wouldn’t do anything. Hamlin got his receipt from Logano. Logano didn’t mean to hurt him but Hamlin has to watch his mouth too.
How about David Ruetimann 2013. Just a suggestion
Man, I miss those big spoilers.
First Wins: Kevin Harvick 2001 Atlanta
Danny gets a lot of slack, but there is one big mouth worse. Kyle Petty, that man shoots off his mouth, but doesn't actually check half the time. He mouths off about a lot of drivers like Hamlin said, many of which achieved much more then Kyle could ever dream of.

Bad season Matt Kenseth 2014 and Truex 2014
I don't really think this is as bad a season as most of the others in the list. I mean the guy broke his back and missed a load of races, I'd say it was only by the time Homestead came that he got back to a sufficient amount of fitness to contend for wins again, and as soon as that, he won the race. Put it this way, there's been a lot worse seasons than this, and without injuries to affect them (e.g. Joey Logano 2017).
