Bad ideas with tow trucks, round two!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Ben @406garage3 needed some more firewood, and since now hauling firewood with my @NRCIndustries 40TB is a thing…. We headed over the mounted in a freezing fog ice storm to pick up a load of logs from the Willamette Valley and haul back to Ben’s house. Luckily there was also a Uhaul truck that needed to go to the repair shop, so I has some weight on my drive axles while going over the mountain pass, and then we had 11,000 pounds of logs for the trip back. The trip went really good considering the conditions, but we did slide right past Ben’s driveway on the ice while on our way back.

Ben is that odd combination of a best buddy and a nagging wife. 🤣 Always a fun adventure when the two of you get together.
Making lemons out of lemonade eeerrrrrr wait ..... maybe the other way lol 😆
The wingmen you have on this channel are hilarious. Ben or Grumpy or Alex or Austin - all characters. The best wingperson is Riley, of course. Great video, always entertaining.

Your rollback is a real swiss army knife, but it is kind of iffy as a dump truck.... The new uniforms are nice too..
In the sixties when I was a kid my dad called the snow that was blowing on the Hwy, blow flakes. I called it snow snakes and my dad teased me every year and it stuck. 🙄🙄 😁😁
That operator has some great skills. To be that gentle with that big of equipment is great.

Track Town Pizza! Brings back the memories. Worth every penny.
The new uniform, gray hoodie and brown vest!😂😂
Your logs were all frozen together. Have a great day
That's some pretty high quality looking logs to turn into firewood.
Ben just needs to buy a 12,000 pound (5443 kg) capacity forklift for his yard. The forklift would pay for itself in only 6,857 cords of split firewood, delivered.
Black ice is awful. Glad you made it safely across the mountain and back AND got to get pizza from Ben's favorite college place.
You two crack me up. You act like you are two teenage brothers.
My first time on black ice I was in Germany. The little road looked like it was dry but about 1/8 inch of clear ice was on the road. Needless to say I found myself suddenly turned the way I had just came from. Since the road was good the way I was pointing I went back to the base.

My most impressive encounter with black ice was when driving home from shift on country roads through a forest area at 3 degrees above(!) freezing. Just at the end of trees section some drizzling rain started. At the next bend cars infront begann to slide. Kept distance, slowed down. Noticed lack of traction (Winter tyres, manual fwd), finally came to a halt. The car, though stopped and held by foot brake, begann to slowly slide sideways that tiny bend of the road surface to the curb! Street looked just a bit wet. One driver infront decided to get out but immediately slid and fell down. You could just not walk at all, might even have gone ice skating there. We all stayed in our cars, until, after half an hour, "Seasoning Service" (road maintainance spreading salt) came along, so we could go on...
Dude's playing Jenga with his loader in the back of your rollback!
I woke up today and wondered "How does freezing fog work?" Then I turn you on and VOILA!!!!! Amazing timing Casey.Lol. Blessings and Happy Holidays!

Set your heat on high, fan on high, full defrost mode, run wipers steady and use the washers with low temp fluid to melt the ice...and put your seat on the floor. And slow down so your windshield doesn't cool off faster than your heater can heat it.

I miss Spokane. At least most of the drivers over there know to slow down a bit and deal with it, back over here in Seattle I'm not looking forward to the week ahead of me. Expecting lots of wrecks, which will give the rental companies business because these folks don't learn the first time they crash.
Cascade Heavy Rescue. Bringing you the best of tomorrow's bad tow truck ideas, TODAY!! Yes, I wrote that comment. I never said I was good at commenting, but it's how I do it. Thanks for the interesting video and smiles! 👍🇨🇦
Well when it came to the log unloading I remembered that your saying is "I never said that I was good at any of this" 😆👍
Ben looked like he was pooping himself! You'd think he'd never been in Oregon in the winter😂 you gotta know tow truck drivers, police, mail carriers or anyone that drives in Oregon for a living? They got this 💪👍
I was expecting broken tail lights, bent wheel lift ... LOL. Black ice is no fun. We get it here, but in layers. Ice, a little rain, that freezes, more fog ice and so on. It doesn't reflect light, so it looks like normal asphalt. But, it might be for maybe 100 yards, then clear, then maybe 200 yards later, more ice. Lethal. Best to stay indoors. But, right now, it feels like early spring. So weird.
I don't know about the laws over on that side of the Atlantic, but studded tyres help a lot in conditions like that. Not like summer conditions of course, but makes it considerably better. In the part of Sweden I live in, "black ice" is extremely common during winter, so studded tyres are a must.
@2nd_of_3
Жыл бұрын
The cost of studding those tires is not negligible. And the studds have to be removed by May. So either 2 sets of Expensive tires or use weight to compensate.
@VorpalGun
Жыл бұрын
@@2nd_of_3 I know tire cost goes up with size (found that out myself when I got a bigger car with bigger tyres last year). In Sweden it is standard practice to keep two sets of complete wheels that you switch between. While I have seen Casey stud his Jeep tires here before, that is not a thing here. (I assume due to different regulations?) Besides you want different rubber formulations in summer and winter tyres anyway. A winter tyre is much softer, with less synthetic rubber. This helps it deal better with lower temperatures. So since you need two sets of tyres anyway, why not use studded ones for the winter set? Sure it is more expensive, but the difference is not that massive.

@@VorpalGun regional laws will apply, and these trucks usually use chains since “as required” since it’s not “the usual” to have these conditions. Where I am, studded are not allowed b/c it’ll destroy the road, but 3 hrs north and studded is just fine since they’ll have snow/ice “for months” at a time
that operator, hes the bees knees for sure
I experienced freezing fog, taking a bucket truck/Tree trimming truck from Virginia to Seattle. It was quite the experience. Loved it.

Casey my man you are a hard working man who never stops take care with that winter driving me i gave up towing after 25 years been their seen that biggest accident was 7 people in a mini bus all crushed out of 9 two lived
That was fun to watch. The drive to and from the log pick up, not so much for you, but at least you had good company. The unload was awesome and the rollback survived.
Speaking of ice, way back when I was living in Baker City, my friends and I made a weekend trip to Portland to see a Blazers game, and an overnight ice storm had hit. It was so slick that we had to get down on our hands and knees to crawl up a VERY slight incline from the hotel lobby to our truck. And the sun was so bright off the snow and ice that we needed to put on our shades to be able to see. I will never forget this.
I knew you were in trouble when only one log came off the first time you backed up. Not only did you create a mess, you created a large mess. I’m glad its you up there and not me. As I’ve grown older I have learned I don’t like being cold. Stay warm.
You two as well as the others love to sarcastically talk to each other which is cool. And you do it so politely and nice. Never heard of a pizza being worth 36.00 of course that could be a special type of pizza. We just had freezing fog, thanks for explaining it, as far as black ice, I was in an accident did 5000 dollars damage and I am lucky to be alive. The truck is still going strong and of course it is a dodge ram and so am I. I barely go out in the spring, or winter because of the black ice. Love Oregon, so through you I get to see it and all the things you do, which is so awesome. I have learned a lot from watching your channel and I thank you. Have a Blessed Day and stay safe.

$36 pizza isn’t unusual here in California, if you want a quality pizza. It also isn’t unusual to get a pretty good pizza for half that.

Thanks Casey, you just reminded me how bad I hated living in an area with weather like that. Color me Southern forever!
It's funny seeing someone else enjoying the winter weather. Here in the UP of Michigan (elev 642) we're enjoying a nice mild start of winter. I have 56 degrees today, but this will end sometime next week when we start seeing low teen temps and maybe snow for Christmas.
We call it glitter, Ice fog, freezing drizzle..
Not to bestow any badness to y'all but I'm glad we(Southwest Louisiana) don't envy any of it.
AC dries the air in the cab helps prevent fogged windows.
WOW! I found it difficult to afford Tracktown back in '77, you reminded me what a great pizza cost!
Been in that Oregon freezing fog many times. Over the Blues twice a night, five nights a week, for over 10 years. Now I'm towing for myself in Idaho. Much better.
Have a good day. Stay safe out there. God bless you all the time.
Please do a short video showing an up close of the freezing fog when it gets really built up. I had a backpacking trip in the mountains of North Carolina years ago and we did not know the clouds had been freezing on the trees like that the day's prior to our arrival. That whole day hiking through the sunshine pouring through thousands of crystalline features all throughout the forest was an amazing day. Prisms of light filled the forest. All that we could get to come out of our mouths was wow
Hello 🙋♂️from the Netherlands 🇳🇱. yes those are dangerous and treacherous conditions . I think it would be easier if the sawmill put the logs on a wooden sled beforehand. this way they can collect all the tree trunks in advance and make a bundle on the sledge. and then you can pull the sled back with the winch. and by Ben let slide right off. but that may be too easy to think and I don't know if your winch can and may have that weight of course . thanks for the video . Sincerely, Hollandduck 🇳🇱🦆
That preying mantis forklift(?) operator had some mad skills! It reminded me of Ian, the excavator operator from the older British show Time Team. He could remove layers of soil by the centimeter on archeological digs. There are some behind the scenes clips of him peeling bananas and picking up grapes from the ground and feeding them to people. Ian's Excavator Tricks for anyone interested😅 As always a great video I laughed so hard when the single log slid off at the end.

That “forklift” is just a front end loader with pipe forks on it, instead of a bucket. Those forks were designed to pick up pipe.
What mess it's easier access for Ben is what you did. Couldn't done it better myself
Casey try rain- x on your windows. It will keep the frost from building up and you won't have to use your wipers as much. Put two coats on to begin with and try using Rain-x wiper fluid and you won't believe the differance. I drove over donner summit everyday for 30 years and it really helped me to see in the freezing fog and road grime coming off the other vehicles.
The highway department did a great job on that road.
Hauling more firewood for Dwight from the office?
That was one of the funniest videos I'm like Ben I do not like being cold
Yes studded tires allowed, just noisy and grind down on dry pavement
Looked like a great time for the whole day thumbs up
no faster then you want to slide off the road i like that👍
One of you needs to invest in a log trailer, great video keep up the good work God bless from GA and stay safe from GA and happy holidays
There is this pizza place I tried .. it was called Trackside pizza. Really good, but a medium ended up costing me $30 .. yikes. Thanks for the video
Dang Casey, that was a mash up of things. Driving on slick water stuff, u hauling trucks, loading short telephone sticks and then sliding past Ben's driveway. And then shaking poles in the dark. 😉😅😅😅🤣
Ah yes! Kinetic unloading! Love it!
You need a Shirt that says " 38-34 " just for when Ben rides with you. 🤣🏈
That 744 op is a beast
Fun fact. Clouds are insulation, so when no clouds it gets colder than when there are clouds. =D
I always say that a good machine operator can use their 20t machines to butter your toast in morning. The best ones can add jam without cross contamination.
Grumpy adventures are one thing but Ben adventures are a whole other level. Glad you guys are more or less ok. Peace Out.
Logs stacked Beautifully... Moist Freezing air Fuses logs together... What could go wrong unloading?
Might suggest facing out for a quick exit when loading. In case of an emergency or the slight chance of a trucker blocking you in at the site. Never fails that a day haulling trucker, usually with doubles, blocks the means to get out. Also, give Northern Tool a look for 24" stakes for your stake pockets. We use them on a regular. They've paid for themselves.
I just watched this and what I came away with, other than the normal things, is you two sound like and old married couple. It's too cold. No its just right I'm hot. What a riot. I always enjoy the variety you have.
You have a great personality and I enjoy watching your channel. Be safe and God Bless you and your family
Your firewood looks like cabin logs
Freezing fog? Ah, reminds me of all of those good times in Pendleton, Oregon. So much freezing fog and black ice in Northeastern Oregon.
I was gonna say, the person loading the logs is being extremely precise & careful.... What a pro, obviously proud of his (her?) work.
I used to be a district manager for a national pizza chain, three dots on their logo. $36 pizza must be some kind of pie…..
Watching this intro about the freezing fog and I'm snuggled up in my brand new sweatshirt from your store.
Look for purple windshield fluid. I could get some in Canada that was good to-35 but also had a deicer in it.
put your visors down it will help trap the heat on windshield to melt ice off top of windshield
I had fog like that, but the black plastic on the back of my mirrors I had were about 1.5 inch thick with ice, but the screen was fine
Where abouts are you, looks lovely, hot summers, cold winters, nice.
You two are hilarious. Wish you could "unbleep" the comments sliding passed his driveway.

You have the most entertaining road trips!
I'm working in Boardman Oregon and Tuesday was icy as hell.
Well you got there, got some pizza, got the logs, got back, got the logs unloaded(after 10 times😉) & no one hurt Good Job! Like the haircut. 👍 Be Safe!
Unloading of the logs was...interesting 🤭 Graceful? No sir. Effective? Eventually. Sketchy? Definitely! Full marks for effort and persistence though 😅 I love all your videos, but there's an extra level of entertainment when you have one of your awesome friends join you for a ride along!
Lucy was glad to see you 2.
You guys looked like twins, cool trip.
Old man winter is coming for you Casey. I know you are watching the forecast. The fan is about to be broke! Maybe one of these days I'll see you when your in town.
i think that operator was bored 🤣
Paused at about 12 minutes to say, "dumb ways to die is now stuck in my head.
Best fun in black ice stuck between two hills or a tree limb thru the windshield with 50 miles to home with windshield on your lap
nice firewood!
I loved Track Down Pizza too when I lived in Eugene.
Suggestion, next log trip lay heavy chain across bed near rear edgo of bed. After logs loaded hook chain together around logs. At your destination lift bed after hooking surround chain to a separate chain hooked to either vehicle or solid pole etc . When you pull out from hitching post/ vehicle load will come off enmass. To get surround chain off pull several center loaded logs from pile and can now unhook surround and tow off chains .
That load just didn't want to come off! But you got some close to where he cuts and splits anyway! That is a high dollar pizza!
You two could star in a new step brothers movie.
It was nice of Ben to buy you lunch but you didn't have to pick on him about the price that he paid for it
We get freezing fog here in Oklahoma. Major crashes because people don't think that anytime it's freezing on your windshield, mirrors, etc., it's freezing on the road. Sure glad you guys made it safely. That pizza, like everything else has tripled in price over the years. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Stay safe and GOD bless

So. Now I know about bad ideas. Really thought you would do haulage like fodder, bulk construction supplies. The good things. A cabin to take the family to the lake, the sea side and the forest camp. Plus tow ya off-road truck.
Casey I just picked up the coat vest from coastal for 30ish$ and it's amazing how warm I am
That Was A Typically Crazy Time With Ben, & I Think The Zings Are Pretty Even🙃🙄😜😂
Ben is kool to have around casey
Why are those milled pole logs being sold as firewood? They look expensive and fit for original purpose. I have been on that really slick ice before. I was driving a fully loaded semi on I-84 through the gorge one night. I was 80,000 pounds, and you know it’s slick when you can spin all 8 drive tires using just a little bit of throttle. And your speedometer zooms up past 50 almost instantly, and your actual road speed does not change at all. That was a night I really wanted to get off the road and park. But from Hood River to Troutdale, there was not a location I could find to get off the road that was even remotely safe. All the exits and wide spots were blocked with vehicles of all kinds of various stages of stuck and crashed. That was an intense drive that night.
I’m pretty sure that’s when I drove through there. The black ice was no joke.
