    Had the same problem with my 2015 6.7, installed a mishimoto. Found it was blown out when my DPF melted from too much fuel injector cleaner. DPF melted almost solid and blew the silicone hose off of the intake. I straight piped it and added a tuner but had the "check coolant level" message. Ran it like that for a year but noticed every oil change I would leave a vapor trail like i was fogging for mosquitos. Noticed that my tranny was getting hot just driving 100 miles or so, chased the cooling system for tranny to the CAC and replaced it with the Mishimoto unit.

    Re parts pile: Back in the 60', Chevy parts were laying all over the countryside, we never gave it a second thought. Who would have known, pandemic and people chasing after reliable used cars...after getting frustrated with their $3k and $4k repair bills, that those old parts would become gold. I had 2 Chev pickup horseshoe motor mounts, used them and never thought of grabbing more when they were avail in the scrap yard.

  • @jaredshoemaker9196
    @jaredshoemaker91962 жыл бұрын

    I own a 2008 6.4 powerstroke F250 Supercab. I recently had a lot of work done to it by a very reputable diesel mechanic. I had a DPF and EGR delete, new glow plugs, new wiring harnesses for the injectors, 8 brand new Ford OEM injectors, all new rocker arms on both sides, and an SCT X4 tuner, with custom tunes gor my truck. The tune isn't crazy he called it the economy tune. I think it's 100hp, 125 lb. ft. Nothing too crazy. The tuner has a heavy tow tune, and a couple other higher horsepower tunes but I just use the tune he put in it I don't need a race truck just something reliable as possible. I don't tow anything heavy. At most an open car trailer with a drag car on it. Maybe 5,000-6,000lbs. max. I guess my question is if it's common for an injector to go bad in just a couple months. I've put maybe 500 miles on the truck since I had it worked on. I think I have an injector stuck open. It doesn't smoke at all when I first start it up but after a few minutes it smokes at idle. I don't really notice it when I'm driving just at stop lights and idling wherever I may be. I can sit in the driveway in park and it white smokes and smells like raw diesel fuel. If I bring the RPM'S up to about 1100 RPM it stops smoking. Makes me think an injector is putting too much fuel in it at Idle then when I bring the RPM'S up it consumes some of that fuel. I don't think it's blow by because it stops smoking at higher RPM'S. But, I don't know for sure I don't know much about how these engines work. I just know enough to get myself in trouble basically. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!! P.S. You seem to be more to the point on diesel mechanics than most other KZread channels. I appreciate the no nonsense explanations on things. I think I've actually learned a few things watching your videos compared to other "Diesel Mechanics" thanks so much for that. Take care and have a great day. Also it doesn't leak any coolant anywhere. I've checked my coolant levels several times at the coolant level is good.

  • @Garth2011

    @Garth2011

    Maybe that SCT tuner? 6.4 shouldn't really have any modifications on the computer other than the deleted items being removed. The front engine cover on those tends to get pin holes in it and coolant is pumped into the oil pan. Those 6.4 diesels have such a bad reputation, no one wants to work on them due to parts cost and availability and when the repair is finished, nothing really corrected, its fixed so the problem will return once again. Best thing to do on a 6.4 is delete the DPF and EGR then just take your chances from there. Many 6.4 owners say the benefits of just those two items allow them to last much longer than 90,000 miles then melt a piston then throw a rod into the block when stock.

    HEY BILL! Love your amazing helpful videos, you've helped thousands of us Powerstroke owners over the years. Question!! Out here in the country of Southern California they're rollin' out this new "Renewable Diesel" that they say ain't biodiesel and is high cetane and just fine for our trucks. Volvo (and Mack, owned by Volvo?) apparently signed off approving it for all their engines. This new "Renewable Diesel" is showing up at more and more gas stations here-they're switching over from regular petro-diesel. Sure by now you know the question. Is it a scheme to ruin our engines just to sell more electric cars (kinda like the climate change campaign they're sellin' us real hard now just to sell more electric cars and sell more advertising to sell electric cars), or is this new "Renewable Diesel" (RD) safe for our Powerstrokes, 7.3, 6.0, 6.4 and 6.7?? Know you're super busy runnin' the show, the channel, the shop, the books, the mechanics, baby-sitting customers, etc. Can you please help us with a knowledgeable answer about this new "Renewable Diesel"??

    Should really do away with the factory cold side pipe altogether, the late model 6.7's still blow like the early ones. replace with a H&S or a steel MPD pipe only real fix. I switched from Ford coolant years ago to CAT ELC in all models of powerstroke. If it works in earthmoving applications and good for 12,000 hours or 600k miles its good enough for your truck.

    Depends much on the person doing the washing. Some components don't fare well with direct pressures of water of any source although most of the components are weather proofed. Best to mix or purchase a good degreaser and apply that first, let it sit and apply again if its really thick grime then, preferable warm to hot water rinsed off.

It's got rotted cab corners and some other stuff. So it's time to decide if he wants to sink in 10-15k to make it decent again or say screw it and just get a newer smaller gas truck. It's looking like it's time to get out of the diesel game at this point, except for fun

    Youll never own a better powerstroke than that 7.3. My early 99 (small turbo) aint a monster but its steady eddy, and does everything ive asked of it after i dumped that factory pos torque converter and a cps...

    Two 7.3's Two 6.0's first one blew up under warranty traded second one in for one 6.4 blew up outside of warranty and one 6.7 turbocharger went destroyed engine under warranty moral of the story I traded in the f250 went with ram got me a 2018 3500HD Cummins so I could get the Aisin transmission never had a problem with the transmission or engine 266,000 MI and counting running delo full synthetic. people get the only real medium duty engine in a pickup truck cuz the only thing Ford and independent shops will do is powerstroke your wallet 💯

    Just wait because "FCA/Chrysler Corp." will be CUMMIN for your savings account soon enough. The ISB is plagued with just as many issues as the Powerstroke.

    Ford hasn't had a good diesel since 7.3 power smoke in 2003! IMO The only "newer" diesel I would own would be a cummins! These new v-8s are a cluster f(#K!
