Beautiful patio & progress! Would you consider relocating your rain barrel to the other end of your garage - more towards the back fence so that when you are looking through your window from your den, you’ll see a plant or tree instead of a rain barrel? By doing so, you will also we greeted by a tree or plant as you exit your back door. Might give you a better view.

My style is early American prim and I have lived in a repro Saltbox for 16 yrs. We held a wrap party for everyone who contributed to this build. From the excavation for the basement, the utilities, our builders, architect, building supply to the gals who wallpapered our bathrooms. They all came and it was fantastic to have them meet each other and talk about their part in our downsized dream home. We felt so blessed to have met so many talented and devoted crafts people. It was our way of honoring them all and recognizing their individual talents. Go for it Linda, you will never regret it and those who attend will know that their individual talents have been validated.
Really like the idea of a pencil thin pointed conifer tree in that garage corner.
I have an idea for your gate. A rectangle with a circular “window” opening with diamond pattern lattice. It would echo your front door! Whatever you come up with will be fabulous I can be certain!! Love watching all you are doing and getting inspiration for my upcoming move and a new garden!

I agree with jeanniecollier! Have a gate built with a round opening at the top to echo the round window in your front door! It would be a wonderful compliment to the entrance to your outdoor living room! 👍

Your steps and new windows are out of this world, perfect in every way! The railings will add the finishing touch to your steps. I love everything about your adorable cottage and magnificent gardens. It has been such a pleasure to go along with you on this new journey. I look forward to each and every video.
Linda, what you’ve accomplished is incredible. More important than that, you’ve created a home. I’m thrilled you have no regrets about moving. Change is good and where we experience growth.
Love the idea of the garage window box. Looking good Mrs. Linda!!
Linda it's hard to even believe that it is the same back yard 🤷 it has been totally transformed through your guidance - you honestly deserve a standing ovation 👏👏👏👏👏 BRAVO 👍😊❤️

yes, that ‘before’ shot was a powerful reminder of how much you’ve accomplished. Amazing
The casement window was the best decision ever for design and practicality and will look magnificent when painted your signature ‘Linda Vater Cottage Gray’! 😊 Thank you for the backyard tour as I can now envision the custom built table you plan to place under the new window and when at Christmas the potted living fir tree decorated with twinkle lights! Can’t wait to see the hand railings installed for the back stairs. It is beyond amazing Linda what you and all on your skilled team will have proudly accomplished in 10 months!
Linda the fence by the garage, would look so good painted the same color as the rest of the backyard fence. Everything is looking great ❤
I vote for a conical evergreen to go in the corner. I agree with you that it would ground that corner very well - I think better than a hanging plant would. Just my two cents. ❤
@fredbear72ify

Me too it would improve the look take away the sharpness of the corner.
Just an idea for your grill area: turn the grill perpendicular to the house ( the same space where it is) on the small stepping stone rug. (maybe slightly enlarge footprint) It could be opened and not need to be pulled out. Also, the planned screen for the utility items, would not be interfered with each time grill is used. Enjoy every accomplishment!
What a sweet, heartfelt wrap up Linda! And, I’m so glad you have no regrets about your move!
This episode has so much information that I’ve it seen 3x’s. Thank you for educating and entertaining me with your kindness and wise words.
Stuart had the perfect timing! And voice quality, for his "Right after the break". It was so high-production-value. (I appreciate stuff like that) Linda: Behind the grill: Have a freestanding, framed trellis built, to stand an inch or less off the panels; grow a dense, evergreen climber on it, as a façade to mask the panels?
The rain barrel gives an organic look to the yard. Beauty and functionality work together.
The Green color on the door. Simply marvelous
Yes, you do deserve a seat. Whew! You've done a lot in a short amount of time. Seeing the stark "before" photo that was devoid of the Linda Vater signature was jarring. I'd forgotten. I wish you lots of beautiful weather to fulfill your dream of entertaining friends and family. Everything looks great!
No Linda, thank you for taking us along on your lovely cottage journey, it's been fun to watch and I enjoyed it all!
We have string lights that go from the corner of our roof, then to a center post in the middle of the yard then to a final roof structure at the other side of the yard. The sway adds to the "party" atmosphere of the yard. I love it more than merely strung on the fence. Everything looks so lovely, Linda!
Linda, you once again are creating a thing of beauty! Love your new windows but I kept thinking, oh don't bump your head! Maybe just make sure the table you place there is deep enough to prevent that for you and your guests. Thanks for all the happiness you bring!
Lovely! Love the cottage windows!!
I would suggest you put your storage unit on the other side of your steps near the air conditioner. That will be your work area with access to the garage and sidewalk along that side of the house. The side where it now sits is the party side. Love your backyard!
I love your enthusiasm for all that you have done, aside from that I love that you mention that this is a home and how ‘Hubs’ has had a say in different areas that he is also enjoying. When all is said and done and the camera is put away it is you and ‘Hubs enjoying your fabulous oasis in your new Cottage on the Hill with addition to friends and loved ones. I wish you so much joy behind the scenes ❤
I love them up against that fence. Very peaceful.
I stay in awe of everything thing that your mind imagines!! I can not criticize a single thing. Love the windows..weren't sure what you were talking about but they are perfection. You are just amazing!!!
Things are really coming together, Linda. I’m so glad you are painting/ staining everything Gray for a classier professional look. As much as I adore all the plants, I hope you don’t over plant the back yard. Less is more! 😂
What I love about my back yard and front is that I am not level with my neighbors, so it feels like we are all by ourselves and no reason to raise a fence. On one side, I can see the neighbor's roof, on the other I can only see their horse stall, not the house. Love what you have done. You have inspired me to add my used brick between my square concrete slabs. I think you need a small fountain for a water sound.
Magnificent! You should be proud.
Wow Linda, you have outdone yourself. I am so impressed with how quickly everything has come together, and even more so your fantastic vision for this space. Very well done!
When you make your latticed cooking area around the grill, you might consider making a latticed box frame that can be hung on the brick to cover all the utility boxes. It could be hinged on one side so the meter reader, etc. could swing it open to access them. And hubby could hang BBQ tools on it. Serves two purposes.
I love your idea of your back gate mimicking the shape of your front door. Maybe you could have a lattice circle insert to replicate your round window in your front door. Looking forward to see what you decide.
The windows are awesome as are your stairs. Kudos Linda.
Dreamy Backyard 😍 Flower beds are spectacular... landscaping fabric excellent idea!!
I think to keep it uniform and not too fussy the back gate should have the same lattice as the fence on top of the existing structure. Looks beautiful!
I can't wait to see the oval brick rug surrounded with plants to soften it all . I know you don't regret moving .... but that back garden gate view into the old backyard almost had me in tears. Especially since it will soon be gone. I am just glad I got your book so I can revisit that garden anytime I want. And I am sure Sydney will make it beautiful.... just different. Your window and back steps look wonderful.

Linda, you are so fortunate to have this opportunity to let your amazing creativity design and divine these new garden spaces. A blank canvas to a masterpiece.
Your back garden is taking shape and looking lovely! Have you thought of putting a tall shepherd's hook with a hanging lantern in the corner by your garage? I think it would brighten the corner at night and look pretty.
Oh the boys had so much fun in the mud love them ❤
It looks amazing! Inside and out! You have done a fantastic job decorating and creating beautiful relaxing spaces to hopefully relax and enjoy! I am so happy for you because you have to be very proud of all you have done... this cottage is a dream. You have taken it to another level and I look forward to each and every video you share. Thank you for bringing us along with you on this magnificent journey! Cheers
Hi, Linda. Thank you for your video. Have a good week and Take care.❤
Oh my! Your backyard & windows are gorgeous.
Love your windows. ❤
Linda, With your wrap of the last 9 month journey, I want to add my sincere thank you to you and to your community of commenters for your influence. Amongst inspiring examples and guidance of doings, I have appreciated your reminders to think creatively within our own tastes and capabilities; From all things gardening, apparel and self care, home interior beauty with organization and comfort, hostessing, kindness, and love of family. More, please. 👏
You’ve done a wonderful job! Can’t wait to see it all completed.
Windows looks fantastic, nothing like opening the windows for fresh air, it’s coming together fast, and I love it
Just love your rain barrel rug of brick and stone and think it would be lovely in front of your raised beds as well to give you more standing area to work in the beds. One other view would be to widen your pathway with your stepping stones and some brick trim to make them easier to navigate. Everything is really coming together beautifully and amazing and as special as your creativity. A window box as you mentioned and a large awning over your doorway will be such a success. Love all your projects are so enjoyable and you look like you are enjoying this space already and downsizing is so smart. Just fantastic.
Also! Think about a lattice surround for the ac and wall panels. Turn the grill against the panel which gives it a permanent spot with out having to pull it away from the house. A light (that i know you will find to compliment the surround) could be mounted to shine over the grill. Then a shelf could be attached to the wall to hold trays etc when cooking .
My three month old twins are mesmerized by your videos. Thanks for keeping them focused for a bit!
Your backyard looks inviting as is but I can see how welcoming it will be when it is completed. Congrats on your progress.
Who needs cable anymore when we have you. ❤
I like your outdoor "rugs."
That new window makes such a difference, I love it ! Can't believe the backyard is almost finished !!! Wow what a renovation !
Love the colour of your raised beds and a window box under the garage window will look great. If there isn’t enough clearance for an awning at the garage door perhaps a stand alone pergola like structure with a roof, and lattice sides in front of the door (painted in cottage grey) would work. Everything you have done compliments the architecture of your house beautifully and the gardens are so unique and truly one of a kind. Thanks for sharing your vision and journey.

I agree with the pergolas, but who knows what is doable with the preservation society? Linda will figure it out and it will be lovely.
BRAVO to all the talent that supported and helped you bring your Visions to life! Incredible! 🎉
Make your shed have a living roof. It would be beautiful full of different succulents ❤I’d go for a metal awning- seen them used on “modern” cottage homes.
Absolutely gorgeous garden I love everything, the brick rug, love that and especially your mature shade trees I had to cut mine down due to hurricanes and I'm really upset about that I miss my tree canopy. I am sure you will enjoy and treasure your beautiful shade trees.
Yes, the raised bed color is perfect. Looks great!
Thank you for bringing us along your new garden & cottage journey. I’ve had a rough couple of years but I’m finally getting my life back and working on my garden again. You are inspiring me to think of my garden as a series of rooms - and I get to create those rooms. I’ve started revamping my front garden and next year I’m removing a few more overgrown shrubs, moving a few others, adding some towers for planters to create a layered look. I will put in some sort of path too. Then I’ll move to the backyard. Thanks for helping me get energized again!
Good morning Linda ☀️ Enjoyed the video today ❤️😊 The patio/backyard is going to be so beautiful when it's all finished ❤️❤️ It's beautiful beautiful now 💖💖 Have a great day ❤😊
Love those beautiful steps just beautiful everything so pretty
I love your vision and how everything has turned out beautifully!😊
I love the color of the raised containers!! I like the idea of not having the holly also. Oh yes, love the window box idea also at the garage!! The steps are beautiful!
Beautiful…I love how you implement what you like and your backyard❤ Just Beautifully laid out❤
My suggestion would be to paint all the utility boxes to match the fencing. Well done.
I appreciate Stewart’s camera filming abilities. So nice to have a slow pan, thank you for not making me dizzy!
Great garden journey… accomplishments… loved watching every minute of it❤
Yes, love the cottage gray color. Yes, conical evergreen in back corner. Yes on low, large planter box in front of garage. Doesn't have to be edibles. You could have an arch over your back gate instead of or in addition to arched gate. Windows look great! I'm a Japanese maple pose, I'm a conifer (cute). Lattice cover for utilities with 'door' to open for access...?? Bench by garage door... where the wood rack is? Yes large pots against the fence by the garage. Lots of work/great!
Ok.....I'm going to say this. As much as I love everything you have done, I think you are about to over do it. One only needs so many seating areas, or so many entertainment areas, etc. You keep adding more focal points that I think it's getting to be too much. That being said, I love the new windows and the new steps. I also love the inside of the cottage......the layout plus the way you have it decorated. I am so happy to hear you say you love your new home.....I do too!!!
We have loved being on this journey with you! Such a beautiful landscape!
I like the matching color of the raised beds because it will let the plants be the show
Your accomplishments in creating your landscape and home are phenomenal! So happy for you , Hubs, family and friends!
Go for the conical green in the corner, needs the grounding!
Yes! I have been waiting for this, it looks lovely.
I love the windows. I regret not adding those to my home.
It's going to look beautiful when you finally put everything together, just like when you were in your beautiful old garden. Everything you've done has always been awesome.
When I think of you , grace comes to mind . Along with hard work and determination . Your vision has come to fruition and I say bravo .
So excited for you to get your back yard space pulled together! Love the windows and all the things!
Linda, Don’t stain your shed Cottage Grey! It’s a lovely clear light cedar color and its warmth adds to the symphony of brick, wicker, rattan and stone. It’s light and lovely. Keep the contrast. You know the old design rule of both warm and cool tones make for a more interesting space. Cheers!
A wonderful patio reveal! Actually, I love the windows painted white because it makes them stand out and gives a light feeling to the back yard. 💖
Beautiful! I've gotten some great ideas for our back patio and hiding the air conditiiner without impeding the air flow. I love to follow you because I live in Tulsa and experience the same issues with heat and yet coupled with shade areas, ect. Thank you! I appreciate your creativity and willingness to share.
Linda, everything is coming together beautifully. Thank you for sharing all the details! Very well done!
Hi Linda! You have completely transformed both the front and back yards and visually elevated both to such charming and beautiful spaces. It is incredible what you have been able to accomplish in less than a year. You have inspired me in countless ways! Your stain color on the raised planters is perfect and I love your idea of the mixed material patios and throw rugs, very creative and fun! Your casement windows really do help to blend the inside and out in a casual and elegant way. Thanks for sharing your journey!!
Yes, I love your windows Mrs. Linda. You have a gift to beautify. I enjoy watching your channel. I hope🙏 to have a beautiful garden someday. Continue to inspire and be safe you and family and also Stewart 😊
Love it ALL, Linda!!! You and the crew have done a fabulous job in a very short time!!! You deserve a rest!!! Hugs from Tennessee!!!🍊
Beautiful backyard. Love it all.
Linda, you are so patient with the people who are too iIMPATIENT with the speed with which you get this project done. I think you have sped through this very quickly.
You have created a beautiful home, both inside and out. My daughter and son-in-law are moving into a 1906 Queen Ann Cottage this month. It needs some renovation to the kitchen and bathrooms. The entry, parlor, library and dining room just need a fresh coat of paint and maybe some wallpaper. I’m so excited for them.
The backyard areas are coming together just beautifully, Linda! Your planning and vision are so inspiring for creating such amazing "outdoor" spaces! Love it!
It looks, and I'm sure feels so welcoming, cozy, and serene. It absolutely gives the English cottage garden vibes and I wish I lived close enough to drop by for a visit! Enjoy 🥂
String lights thru the three trees on the neighbors side and thru the trees on the street side would look good. Twinkle lights in the topiary azaleas on either side of the garage door and the olive trees at the back would round out the lighting and not compete with the solar candles.
I'm so happy for Hubs (and you too, Linda) as we know how much he wanted those windows - to feel the breezes coming through. What a game-changer they are, especially once they are painted to match the other outdoor decor. Everything is beautiful and I'm glad to hear that you are more delighted each and every day that you made the move. That's a wrap!!!!!
Love those new windows so much!! I really can’t believe what you’ve accomplished this year. I hope you enjoy much fun and laughter entertaining in your new space:)
I am green with envy… that back garden is to die for! I hate to say anything negative but not crazy about the rain barrel so front and center. I think a fountain would look so much better there not only for the sound but the birds love to visit and they are so fun to watch.

I agree ,also. I would put the barrel on the other side of the garage. Not a fan of the shed being close to the window. There is too much going on in such a small space
I’m so happy for you and amazed at all you’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time!
Everything is looking so great Linda. The process can be so long and draining but it sure is worth it in the end. To get exactly what you hoped and wanted is such a reward. Well done Linda!
After a long day at my gallery I came home to a glass of wine and your episode! Absolutely inspiring! You have done so much in so little time! I love your drive and your creativity and your style! Way to go Linda!
I would put an arched structure over the garage door with the topiary on each side. Everything looks great! Good to see you still have it😅
Love love that the raise beds blend into the fence. It looks great. I am so thankful you decided to also make the shed the same color. It's just too much of a stark contrast in its current color.
