Backpacking Kauai 🤙 The Nā Pali Coast- Kalalau Trail( Rained Out)

Welcome to the wettest spot on Planet Earth.... during the rainy season. The Nā Pali Coast off the north side of the island of Kauai. In this video we attempt to hike 11 miles along this beautiful coastline to the pristine, secluded Kalalau Beach. Sitting at the base of the famous Kalalau Valley, and only accessible by foot, this beach is known as one of the prettiest places on Earth. It is a pretty treacherous hike with lots of cliffs and numerous river crossings. Permits are required for this trip and are hard to come by. Permits open up 30 days prior to your hike so get on their website early cause they go FAST! This hike was filmed December 2021. This is the rainy season as you can see in the video. It had been raining for days causing Hanakapiai River to swell and become impassable. The rivers can stay flooded for several days so come prepared cause you can find yourself stranded till they subside. They shut the trail down as we got to the first river crossing due to increasing water levels. Although we were not able to make it to Kalalau Beach, we enjoyed the incredible scenery and playing in all that red mud. The Nā Pali Coast is a sacred place so please practice "Leave No Trace" principles.

Even with all the elements against us that day…rain, mud, and me being sick-it was still such an amazing journey. Just think how epic it will be in 2023 when we go back and make it to that beautiful coast line.

Oh Im sure you will get there. Just dont go during the rainy season. It is such a different kind of hiking compared to traditional mountains. Thanks for checking it out👍

Oh Hawaii feels like home. I do miss it. I only shoot with the Hero 9 so water is not too much of an issue other than muffled audio. Couldnt fly the drone that day though. It was raining so hard!
