Unlikely to be prosecuted, as the jury is very unlikely to believe the lie after it was exposed on cross. If the jury believed him and the lie was only exposed after the verdict, that would be a different matter.

Perjury usually isn't prosecuted unless the jury believes the lie and it changes the verdict. In this case, the lie was immediately exposed, so it didn't corrupt the trial.

We know he was brought in to say Cohen told him Trump didn't know about the payments, and didn't Cohen say he lied to Costello when he had said that because he didn't trust him. Not sure what that means. But what was the point of the prosecutors tie-ing him down on emails and texts and meetings that Trump used him to get Cohen not to cooperate. Not earth shattering really. There's more storey about his antics to the judge than what actually was revealed, do you know anything other , it hard to find the transcript in full So i'm still not sure what the relevance is.

Most innocent people don't testify in their own defence. Waiving the fifth amendment is considered by most defence lawyers to be a bad idea. It's only notable for Trump because he always claims he's going to testify or spuriously claims he's not allowed to. He does the same in civil trials and he did the same in his impeachment a and other congressional enquiries.

Perjury is rarely prosecuted unless it changes the course of the trial. If a witness lies and the jury doesn't believe the lie (either on their own or because it's shown to be a lie on cross), it's usually not worth prosecuting.

If Judge Merchan had struck Castello's testimony off the record, he would have done TFG a HUGE favour. The prosecution would have objected to it.

He wants the attention, right? He's a narcissist first and foremost. That weird thing he said about Hannibal Lecter? I know he was probably just trying to build to a tasteless joke, but it's a kind of confession in its own right as well. He's reminding us that tasteless jokes are just fine with him, that this sort of behavior is exactly what he considers presidential. I don't say that he admires Hannibal Lecter. But he doesn't have a problem with him. And I definitely have a problem with that.

What an embarrassment

Putting Costello on the stand was an own-goal by the defense. I hope it's enough for the jury to completely disregard the defense, but all the defense needs is one juror to cause a mistrial.

Yeah. Mistrials are common when dealing with organized crime justice. Threats, bribes, etc. if there is a mistrial, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if something nefarious went on to cause it.

There's an interesting series on Netflix, British, called "Bodies'. Science fiction. A crucial phrase in the whole series is:"Know you are loved". Without spoiling things too much, bad things can happen after someone says that. An email ending in "you are loved", that's almost as clear as a kiss of death. Michael Corleone kissing his brother Fredo on the mouth.That didn't end well for Freddie. These people are nasty. I mean Trump, and all his minions. Awful people. That email was a bare faced threat.

Putting Costello on the stand turned out to be incredibly stupid, but at least they didn't do something even dumber, like putting Trump on the stand. He would have been the prosecutors' star witness against himself.

That usually refers for the defense, if there is reasonable doubt you shouldn't convict. Its the old Ben Franklin saying "it's better to let 100 guilty free then to convict 1 innocent man".
