Back to Madagascar - The Good, The Bad & The Beautiful

I flew from Toronto to Antananarivo via Kenya Airways. They now have a 12-13 hour direct flight direct from New York to Nairobi and it was full both times I have taken it. I was thinking to arrive in Nosy Be, but for whatever reason the flights were much more expensive. So I am in Antanarivo for 4 days to rest up, get some money changed, etc.
I have purchased a bus ticket to Tamatave and will go there tomorrow using Cotisse Transport. Cost of the bus trip was 45,000 Ariary (US$12) will and will take approximately 11 hours.

Finally I’ve found an English speaking You Tubber currently in Madagascar. I was there about 8 years for a few months and will never forget it. Such a poor country that hasn’t really advanced unfortunately! Met some great people there. It’s certainly a challenge traveling the country. Managed to fly to various places and a few long bus/truck rides all an experience different to any other country I’ve been to.😎

yes, the people here are great. Very friendly and laid back, not pushy. I just arrived in Tamatave, 10 hour bus ride yesterday. Went better than expected, comfortable seats, plenty of leg space. Cotisse is the way to go regarding bus service here.

Went there for work 4 months ago. The situation is really sad. The poverty, the insecurity, the lack of infrastructures... May God help them.

I had an enjoyable 12 months in Majunga back in the 1960s. They were very poor then and things don't seem to have improved sadly.

At 6 minutes and 16 seconds during your video if you would have turned right then you would have been at the beautiful Waterfront!! YOU MISSED IT. There are they have a beautiful Mall a nice Shopping Center a cinema where you can watch movies and fantastic outdoor places to eat.😢

I’m going to assume that all vehicles in this video run on gasoline; I would expect that the electrical vehicle market doesn’t exist in Madagascar.

yes they are all gasoline. I think Kenya is making some strides regarding Electric Vehicles. I would love to see the day when those noisy, polluting tuk-tuks get replaced by electric versions.

There are electrical vehicles, e. g. tuk-tuks in Tamatave. They serve a a shuttle between the two major street markets there.
