First off, I appreciate all the effort you put into your videos and the knowledge you share, nowadays that's getting extremely rare and especially at the dealer level. Secondly, I find it extremely frustrating that TL will highlight your work (rightly so), but will not advocate for the use of a scope at the dealer level for all techs to put to use your techniques. The pico should be an essential tool hands down. I have mentioned that frustration on every tech survey, every training event and every time I get an NNA employee on property. It all seems to go on deft ears. Keep up the good work Sir!

Thank you for the great comment, 💯👍 I too have pushed for more scope usage to the powers that be. I will say, I have had guys tell me they are using the picoscope now in certain training classes, allbeit very little. I'm going to do my best to keep making videos that display the scopes value and hope more people will catch on and sip the kool-aid 😀

Great video Mike. I have to say that so many times when other techs/friends ask for help they haven't covered the basics (which is often where problems erupt). I think it's natural to think of "bigger" causes of problems but the number of times I fix bad B+ or ground outnumber the more involved problems many times over. Thanks for reminding us all of step 1!

I always ask guys that want my help with electrical problems "did you check all the fuses" most of the time its "hold on I'll be back in a minute" 😄. Thanks for commenting 🤘.

I agree with you. Dynamic test is the right way. But a test light does not work always. I had Nissan Titan with ABS module not communicating. I test the power and ground with a test light and both showed bright light. We put a used ABS module still no communicating. I tested the ground circuit with voltmeter on the ground wire of the abs module and the black lead of the voltmeter on battery ground and it showed 1.1 volt. The test light hooked up to battery positive and touching the ground circuit of the abs module showed bright light. I grounded the the ground side of the abs module to battery ground with jumper wire started communicating. I bought the Load Pro after that and it works great. Thanks for the video.

Great story! I love my test light, but knowing its limitations is key, Glad you went with the Loadpro. Sometimes we learn lessons the hard way, the main thing is we learn, and not repeat our mistakes!

Hi Mike, Thank You for taking your time and effort making and posting these informative videos, not just on pico, I have learnt quite a lot about the pico software from your videos i.e. maths channel etc, I only have a cheapo 2 channel 2000 series pico but it does what i need it to do, I have a snap on 4 channel scope in my Modis but its no where near as good as pico, I do hope your channel grows more, Thank You once again

Thanks for commenting and participating! 2 channels are better than 0 channels 😅. I also use a snap on scope at times...but the Pico is the "big gun" for when it gets real deep.

Great video again Question Could it have been a pin fit issue at the coil? Would it have shown the same capture as well, where the command is there and no current flow.

Definitely could have been pin fit. I did check that it was good. As far as captures concerning pin fit I have seen alot of crazy waveforms, some partial connections are very interesting especially looking at current flow. Pin fit is not black and white, there's alot of gray area, its best to physically check it when in doubt.

Thanks. The technical “nitty gritty” details are what I need to help establish the right fundamentals. I’m surprised to hear a high level diagnostic tech like you promote the “Load Pro”. A LOT of high level diagnostic guys I watch really poke fun at it. Those naysayers are test light proponents. Do you find it bulky to use in tight spaces?

  • @CartersDiagnostics

Thanks for commenting. I like the Load pro leads because I understand and know the tools limitations. The same goes for a test light. I try not to put myself in a box for diagnostics, I like all my options to be available. As far as the leads being bulky they certainly are, and the alligator clips kinda suck. I'm not a fan of the Power Probe, but if its used correctly and the user understands its capabilities then have fun, I just personally don't feel the need for it.
