Unbelievable. Today I'm rewatching B5 and to see how the cast developed as actors I looked through their bio's... I wish I hadn't done that. RIP Richard Biggs, Michael O'Hare, Jeff Conaway, Andreas Katsulas, Jerry Doyle, Stephen Furst... and others. It's been a long time... 25 years, I've watched it as a kid and I loved every moment of it.JMS made it all alive in my imagination even more than on the screen. It hurts to see all of them gone.

I've watched this TV show so many times that I cannot even recall the number. I watched when I was a kid and didn't understand half of what was happening there, I watched it when I've became older, and I saw more. And now, every time when I return to Babylon 5, I see the deep philosophy and wisdom that Michael Straczynski have imbedded into his creation. Thoughout the years of being a hard 'Sci-Fi fan', I've seen tens of other TV shows and non of them ever reached the same level as Babylon 5. Regardles of how prettier and realistic computer graphics had become, regardless of how much many people had put into them, the same sense of completeness and involvement has never appeared. Probably, it is like 'first love' - you will never find exactly the same one. This TV show has shaped all my life, inspired me to become an astrophysicist, to learn language and leave my country, to write my own stories about futurea and so much more. The greatest gratitude that I will ever able to give would be to my parents and to creators of this TV show, - them I obliged for whom I've become.

I was a huge B5 fan, but I never went to Cons or wanted autographs, but I found this after I heard about Jerry Doyle's death. What a prescient statement by Jerry. That one day he didn't miss the sunrise, and that it would be the last one. He'll be missed. The tribute video sadly gets another addition, but his character, and the character of the man, will live on. RIP Jerry Doyle.

Omg, this was so emotional. I was not prepared for this but I took it all in. Mira Furlan's thank you speech was amazing.. that this reunion gave them closure for all the loss they endured together and since then we lost even more precious people, Stephen Furst and Jerry Doyle, 2 amazing actors who really contributed so much to Babylon 5. Also very touching what Tracy Scroggins had to say. And Claudia Christian about their lost friends and especially Jeff Conaway was very moving. Very sad to see a funny reunion turn into such an emotional rollercoaster but with so much loss it was inevitable I guess. And it's a very fitting tribute to their lost friends and to ours. The message Jerry Doyle was giving was so powerful. He was such a nice and funny man. They all are and were. A big close family. Our family. I love you and thank you for your amazing legacy. I will be watching this great show over and over for as long as I may.

I met Stephen Furst on one of his American Diabetes Association speaking engagements. What stuck with me was his story about trusting the fanbase a little too much-- i.e., he could relate to stories of obese fanboys and he made the mistake of giving out his private telephone number. So he was still a very guarded man, and he was a bit friendlier with my wife than he was with me. I don't begrudge him that, yet it just seemed kinda sad.

Yes, I did see Jeff on Celebrity Rehab, and then rewatched him on Babylon 5, a show I loved greatly. It was so sad to see his downward spiral, when one form of recovery or another will work for almost anyone. Unfortunately, some peoples' pain is so severe that it can NOT be addressed without narcotics. Dr. Drew would have served Jeff far better if they had tried to get him stable on long-acting opiates, like methadone or Suboxone. Trying to get him completely off opiates with his pain levels was cruel and non-productive.

I am a fan of Babylon 5 from the beginning, every week on saturday the show aired here in Holland (Europe) in the late 90's, I remember the time I watched the last episode Sleeping in Light and I cried the whole episode long , I have never had that with any series or movies before and after. I just watched the memorial clip and well , it happened again, I never knew that so many already passed beyond the Rim. I know there are many people who want upgraded HD versions of Babylon 5, someone has done a hell of a job of remastering all the series and movies and spin off series, they are beautiful now , enhanced coloring and DTS audio tracks, I don't think they will ever come any better than that, certainly not from Warner Bros I think.

They all remind you of their characters, except Peter Jurasik doesn't remind me that much of Londo, on the surface Londo was a happy-go-lucky guy but deep down he was a fascist. 7, 8 years after the fact, I just saw this. How wonderful! I teared up numerous times. I still can't believe we have lost so many of those fokes that were on stage in 2013. They all were a God send during a very special Golden age of SciFi. As they say, you can not catch lightning in a bottle twice, and boy is that saying correct! Star Trek in the 1990s was created and wad more or less forced in to being good. Babylon 5 worked its ass off to complete its story. I can remember every year praying for renewal and doing what we could to support the show. It had to stand on its (and Joe's) merits. It did that quite well. What an amazing gathering of the right people at the right time. It was lightning in a bottle! This show is very special in my life and I want to thank all involved.

+Shawn Blakeley The show is full of "words of wisdom" ... and also previews of things that would happen ... like the government in the USA sweet talking its own population into thinking "homeland security" (and all the anti-terrorism garbage) a good thing. JMS explained this on the commentary to "In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum" from season 2.

+Shawn Blakeley Star Trek is more a puzzle show, similar to a mystery. B5 is a show that is entirely about deep themes. Star Trek initially had some political themes, but they were more pushing an opinion rather than commenting deeply on the world.

***** I was thinking more along the lines of TOS, though the formula held to a lesser extent for the others. DS9 was similar to B5 in many ways, but I suppose being on a station has that effect. I wouldn't say that The Offspring was "deep" as much as it was emotionally charged. The Inner Light didn't quite seem to fit the bill either, many ST episodes just fell back on "I think, therefore I am." While I don't have a problem with that philosophy in regards to its accuracy, it isn't really a very fruitful theory as it revolves around the No-true Scotsman. It seemed to be neither, the theme wasn't really deep, and it wasn't much of a puzzle. I would say that you make a good point regarding the presence of exceptions, but I would add that they were far more rare with TOS.

  • @101jir

***** I'm not saying it was bad, though some of the episodes that were brought up weren't my favorite. I personally loved Voyageur, and the TOS episodes with non-violent themes were actually pretty awesome imo. There was stuff that I didn't like about B5, specifically the final season which seemed kindof thrown together. However, I would like to clarify my original assertion to being that the best Star Trek TOS episodes were like puzzles, whereas the best B5 episodes tended to revolve around how the characters developed, and emphasized people's virtues and vices, as well as the long-term impacts of these virtues and vices. And, as I said before, DS9 and B5 could (and to a certain degree had to be) very similar to each other in regards to continuity and so forth.

Babylon 5 has a great place in my heart. It was a bonding moment of sorts between my dad and me. He didn't like sci-fi for the most part, but that show, we could watch together and we both enjoyed it immensely. The characters actually go through development. All of them. Most tv shows, most if not all of the characters stay mostly the same throughout the run of the series. B5 had true, dynamic changes. G'Kar and Londo stick out to me. G'Kar starts out as an arrogant jerk obsessed with paying the Centauri back for every little thing they've done and starting an empire of their own for the Narn Regime. And by the end of the series, he's a humble, warm, thoughtful person. Londo kind of goes the opposite way from a fun loving ham to this dark, tired fellow just trying to make the nightmares stop. Love the show, love the contributions of all the amazing actors in it. Wish the DVD versions didn't suck (not what they contain, just the fact that they don't friggin PLAY even though they have NO scratches). One of the best shows of all time, IMHO. So well acted, Jerry Doyle, Mira Furlan, Bruce Boxleitner, Andres Katsulas (love him as Tomalak on TNG too). You are all SO amazing.

YES it's now the Summer of 2016 and Mr. Doyle has just now passed on. To hear his two different pieces in the video about appreciating life and watching sunrises and deep reflections was powerful. It' hard to believe that he just passed on and that it's been so long since the show was orig. on. I used to watch all these episodes with my beloved mum and now she is gone too. I wish I could take a time ship or a wormhole in space and go back thru time.

It's not the strong language that's objectionable, it's the fact that the video jump cuts around and the sound is all jacked up. The panel can't hear each other, they can't hear the audience, their mikes cut in and out -- come on, people. Who sets this stuff up? It's not like these cons are a new thing. If you can't square this crap away before the actors walk in the door, go home.

Babylon 5 is the best sci fi series ever. The production values for the CGI it would be almost impossible to credit that this was 1993.The Newtonian physics in the dogfighting, the bases and ships was awesome. The actors in this videos and in the show all let their personalities come through and all deliver such strong performances. They will never make the like of this again. PS Thanks Joe for making Ivanova (and Claudia for doing her justice), she is one of the best ruski characters in scifi

You know, G'Kar and Londo were awesome. Fantastic actors. But for the rest of the cast, i think they could replaced easily. Garibaldi is basically Bruce willis, i'd have Christian Bale be Sheridan, because he's the capain we deserve. Liv Tyler as Dellen. Gandalf would be awesome as Kosh. If we wait a few years still, Jen Lawrence could be a good Ivanova. Oh, and let the guy who played Garak on DS 9 be Lorien, their voices are practically be the same. And lets have Cumberbatch be someone, he's always a safe bet.

+Daniel Burke yes it was that, but not unique now. I didn't get into it at first when I rented the special premier episode and thereforth into the first half of S01. I took a short break and got back into around the start of S02, and then I started to get hooked. After that it just kept getting more crazy good, until waning off slightly in s05, but that was due to a dispute funding from Warner brothers and a subsequent script rewrite I think. The first 6 episodes of S04 were the most exciting and plot building film sci-fi I have ever seen I think, that tops all TV experiences for me of all time so far probably. But there have been other great things since. B5 also opened my mind to new things more than any other sci-fi has done with the exception of 2001. I had the privelege of seeing leaked copies of the two last eps of season 4 before anyone else in the world. Before it was aired in the US or the UK, because in that time they were screening them in the UK before the US for some reason I can't remember. I will always be proud of that, and gloating about it to my research colleagues at that time when I was sort of still a scientist about it the next day. Roll on the reboot if it's really happening! RIP the old B5
