This video represents a look at a few groups of gestating female Timber Rattlesnakes at a Northeast Georgia locality from early July to August 30th.
You will notice that I like to use time-lapse in my videos, this is because I feel that it is a very good way to compress time and capture the subtle, fine-scale movements of this animal as it unfolds in space and time. See how they shift with the sun’s movement overhead, shuffling in and out of the light to regulate their body temperatures. This is behavior that could take hours to observe in any meaningful sense. Also, really watch some of the scenes, and you will see some snakes leaving their shelter stone only to return soon after.
Additionally, and most importantly to me, I feel that it is a safe medium by which to share the lives of these animals with the public since most of the focus is on the animal and not on surrounding features that could give clues about their locations. And no one wants to hear my mumblings as I film anyway. I want the viewer to be with the animals. You will get to see in a matter of moments what I wait around for hours watching play out, but without the heat, thirst, and chigger bites that itch for several days.
