During this visit to a rattlesnake basing knoll that is familiar to me, I encountered a snake that I do not usually see on these dry, high elevation sites. This spot was quite far from any significant body of flowing water and the elevation was 2,950 ft.
Just 3 days prior to the observations covered in this video at least 5 adult rattlesnakes remained on site. Today (9-6-19) was silent. Only the wind flowing across the treetops and the buzz of insects was heard, and I saw all around the empty husks of sloughed away rattlesnake skins, likely the last of their keratinous leavings until they emerge next spring.
If you like my video, I would greatly appreciate a thumbs up.
