Actually, Baby Race was almost scrapped entirely BECAUSE of Socks. The creator apparently forgot all about Socks and/or her behavior while he was scripting the episode, and when he remembered, he was going to just drop it. But his wife loved the episode so much, he kept it in anyway.

that's why I like the idea of Socks being on the autism spectrum, even if it's not canon. And I'm glad they aired Baby Race regardless. A lot of mums out there needed to hear "You're doing great"

I heard differently. Apparently is was almost scrapped because the creator thought the episode would be too boring for kids

I mean socks is one but I never got the feeling that socks was a fresh one you know? I kind of just assumed that sometime within the toddler years kids are a lot more puppy like

that _"You're doing great"_ in Baby Race always wrecks me. the camera angle in that scene was definitely intentional ^u^ also Socks being able to walk on two legs and talk a little more now is so so adorable she's so baby!!! ^u^ ^u^

Only for "Bluey" to add such marvelous detail in an episode that was awesome already the way it is. But making Bella direct her words not only to Chilli but to all new parents that were feeling themselves overwhelmed with their new role and feeling like they are failing was... GENIUS!!

You’re right about Bluey swiping Bandit out of the way cause she wanted to see Chili. Before she rolls, shuffles, or crawls backwards she is reaching for Chili and figures out how to get to her❤️

Frisky was not kidding when she said the Heelers were "crazy" but full of love. I mean, when you look at Bob (grandpa Heeler), the Heeler brothers and then the girls you can clearly see they all have their little quirks that makes them unique. However, you can clearly see they are a family that love one another regardless.

I'm not a mom and I don't want to have children, but seeing this pink cartoon poodle turn towards Chili, look directly into the camera and say "You're doing great" always make me cry. Same as the ending scene of Bluey walking and Bingo saying: "Maybe you saw something you wanted" with the MUSIC oh my god

Christmas Swim has always had a special place in my heart. I'm not Australian but I am from south Florida...a place where it doesn't snow in the winter. So since I was a young kid I have been trying to find some sort of media where on Christmas it doesn't snow. Where was this show when I was young? I'd be so excited, "Look! There's no snow!" Oh man.

yessssss, Bluey touches our hearts once again!! 😭💙 Also fun little character detail: The light colored lines on Bandit and Chili's fur are actually from age! You can see in the backstory scenes of Baby Race that the two of them lack their usual lighter hair streaks on their faces and tails because they're younger. It's neat :) Also it's so sweet how supportive the poodle mom was with Chili. Chili's sadness and belief that she had to be the best mom hits pretty hard knowing that Bluey is her first baby after she had a miscarriage. She really just wanted to do the best for her and felt like she was failing again 🥺 But, in other, lighter news, I love how the Easter episode tests Bluey and Bingo's intelligence! It's great to see them figuring out things together on their own. They're so smart! And of course it's wonderful to see Frisky and Uncle Rad together! It's cute that they have a little side plot going on

Congrats on completing Season 2, Eric. Christmas Swim is one of my personal favourite episodes that makes me feel right at home. A great way to showcase how Christmas is celebrated down under, as well as the continuity of Radley and Frisky’s relationship. So hyped to see your season 3 reactions (my new favourite season, especially after the last 3 episodes that just aired recently).

Baby Race is a personal favorite of mine. It's a wonderful message for any parent whether they are new to parenting, questioning themselves, or just doing their best. There's no real manual to parenting, it's difficult, and exhausting. And sometimes you just need to hear something like this to know "your doing great" and "run your own race". I enjoy your take on Bluey episodes Eric and look forward to more!

I love baby race so much cuz it makes me feel glad that I'm helping my aunt out by taking care of her's kid because she's busy sometimes and I always told her she's doing great even tho her new baby didn't get her love 24/7 everytime but she always take care of the baby when she is free

We see quite often that they have uniforms at their jobs - most store workers do, and I think we even saw Chilli wearing hers.

The reason why Socks walks on all fours when Bluey is showed as a baby developing like a human baby would by rolling, crawling and then walking on two feet is still unknown. One reason would be Sock's baby behavior was meant to be the normal one, but they decided to retcon it for the sake of "Baby Race". Another would be that Socks simply prefered to walk on all fours, similar to how baby Bluey liked to bum shuffle and crawl backwards. A third option would be that Socks would have some kind of neurological condition, but that one is really a stretch, now that we see that Socks is acting like the toddler she is.

I like how the creators of Bluey decided the children characters would age, learn grow and evolve over the series. I'm glad Matt Groening didn't decide to do that, Bart would be turning 45YO this year. And you are correct. the Christmas episode aired on December 1st 2020. And then the final episode of Season two aired four months later, on April 4th 2021🎉

Yeah, the episodes aren't really set in chronological order. I think this last Christmas episode takes place way at the end of the current timeline, for reasons that will be made clear in Season 3 (no spoilers). And Baby Race is definitely a retcon that shows puppies behaving like human babies instead of like Socks, and from then on Socks is shown as a VERY adorable toddler. Honestly I don't mind, since this allows Baby Race to be much more relatable, and that's a big part of the series as a whole.

Christmas Swim is one of my favorite episodes of Bluey. It's a bit of a sleeper hit, so I'll elaborate: in any other children's show with this type of premise, how the story would go is the main character's new toy or other gift would be damaged and broken beyond repair, and they would be told to just "deal with it." The show would unneedingly paint them as greedy or obsessive, or whatever, and to just roll with the punches, which always felt to me rather negative. Bluey, however, didn't choose to go with that kind of conflict and instead went with something more positive. As one of the first episodes I ever watched of this show, I greatly admire it for that and will say this is a great episode to recommend to people unfamiliar with the show.

    - 'Typewriter' has some interesting parallels to 'The Wizard of Oz'. I do wonder how intentional they were. Baum's books should be in the public domain by now, but the film takes a lot of liberties with the material. - I don't think it's actually that unusual for babies to walk before they crawl. In my case, I apparently tried, but after smashing my head on the ground one too many times switched to rolling and bum-shuffling to get where I wanted to go! - The situation with Socks is... a bit contentious. She was probably older than Bluey was in this episode though so maybe an intermediary phase? - Easter is a tricky holiday since its actual date can vary widely depending on what lunar phase the vernal equinox happens on. I'm not terribly surprised they forgot about it...

There's a long tradition of doing parodies of classic films in kids' cartoons. The show Numberblocks has a full on parody of Star Wars and another of Back to the Future. The Bluey Granddad episode uses a famous shot from The Fellowship Of The Ring as a composition basis. Homages happen a lot, as long as they fall short of plagiarism.
