The “duck cake” is real. That book - the Women’s Weekly Birthday Cake Book - has been a fixture in Australian families for about 45 years, and we’ve all had the duck cake 🐤

Those poor parents having to make the duck cake, tho. I know Bandit made a booboo by icing it first, but even without that it still looks a bit complicated.

I have two distinct memories of that cake book. One, the moment you're handed it to choose. Two, when I went to a friend's party, and he had a cake from the "girls" section. I internally freaked out.

Despite everything else that happens in Handstand, I like how most of the episode is at a static angle with more and more people coming in. It's kinda cool to watch

Not sure about thumbs, but I know baby elephants use their trunks as a pacifier when they're young, which is as adorable as it sounds. Usually children will grow out of thumb sucking as they get older, no need for intervention, but if it is excessive/going on for much longer than normal I think parents will usually put something that doesn't taste good but won't hurt the kid on the thumb to help them break the habit.

Duckcake is an absolutely precious episode. I love the lesson it provides by showing that Bluey can be happy by simply helping her parents without expecting a reward. And Bandit getting sad/stressed because he couldn't make the cake the way he wanted to, so Bluey cleans for him to make him feel better, was so touching 💙 And then we have the Handstand where Bingo couldn't even get noticed on her birthday until the end 🥺

Muffin is my favorite character(mainly because I was Muffin growing up) and I hate how people hate her. They dont seem to understand that she is only 3 years old and her parents obviously have trouble not spoiling her. She's the product of her young age and her enviornment. She is so adorable!

@@yikesgina But thankfully that episode also showed she could learn and improve given Stripe realized his mistake and let her know while she was the most special kid to her parents, she might not be to everyone else and she instantly said "ok" and changed her attitude when playing with Bluey and Bingo. But yeah, its those moments with her parents that frustrate me. The Faceytalk episode is a huge example of their problems with parenting.

I think it might make more sense in the context of Australia’s climate, maybe? Heat rises, kitchens generate a lot of heat, so keeping it on the second floor might help keep the rest of the house cooled down. Then again, split-levels in the USA technically have the kitchen on the second floor, and so do houses that are built into hillsides (where the main entrance also tends to be on the “second floor,” even if the rest of the house is on what would normally be seen as the “basement”).

I sucked my thumb as a baby and my mom put infant socks on my hands to stop me from doing it. it worked like a charm, but this was probably not the most psychologically healthy way of doing it. my cousin sucked her thumb for a long time, into her pre-teens, and her mom finally had to take her to an orthodontist to install a device in her mouth that made the thumb-sucking either unsatisfying or uncomfortable (I can't remember which). at any rate, it worked, and she stopped. Handstand is one of my favorite episodes! I love the different perspectives it shows and the attention to detail between the outside and inside perspectives.

Sucking one’s thumbs is indeed bad for your teeth, as it can push developing teeth out of alignment. Which, in turn, can affect chewing properly, which impacts nutrition as well as jaw development in general, and that sort of snowballs into worse problems down the line. I’ve watched a few videos of a family whose four-year-old is Autistic and has thumb-sucking as one of her preferred stims, and they’ve had some videos discussing how badly the habit has messed up her teeth and jaws, and even her ability to eat certain foods.

In Muffin Cone I'm sure there is a Crocodile Dundee reference when Muffin grabbed the carrot and Bluey said "That's not a knife" Also yeah there is a lot in the episode handstand, have to watch it more than once to really see what everyone is doing, and yeah Muffin, Socks, and Lila are all off screen watching Cat Squad, as shown on the Bluey's twitter page when people were wondering where they were in the episode

Harnesses are a good way to stop your kid running into the road, or running off in the supermarket. Thumb sucking doesn’t, to my knowledge, really damage permanent teeth alignment: they just grow weird sometimes.

4:10 It is, it's what gives you an overbite after some time. As for solutions, my parents used a gross tasting hand soap so then I stopped when I was little. My mom got an arm brace that stopped her from bringing her arm to her face and my dad's parents put lemon juice on his thumb to stop him😂

Supposedly, thumbsucking can contribute to misalignment of the teeth, but it's usually cosmetic in nature though I suppose extreme examples could have extreme results. As for 'treatment' I've never heard of using an Elizabethan Collar, but old-timey books did sometimes recommend putting the child in mittens or coating the thumbs in a foul tasting substance to discourage the practice, but I imagine both are out of favour today... As for tails, cats most definitely don't wag their tails when they're happy - very much the opposite!

Misalignment can affect the jaw muscles, though, and that can negatively affect nutrition by making it difficult to chew certain foods (which can also cause children to develop aversions to those foods because of how uncomfortable it was to chew them). I had similar issues in middle and high school because a baby molar that refused to come out caused the adult tooth to come in sideways, so I developed a habit of chewing everything on only one side. It ended up taking special intervention to remove the baby tooth, widen my upper jaw, and then a ton of orthodontics to get everything aligned properly.

I was a thumb sucker as a kid and as far as I know there's no cone like that for human kids (or at least there wasn't roughly 20 to 30 years ago) but what we did have was Struwwelpeter, a collection of cautionary fairytales for kids, one of which was about a guy with a huge pair of scissors who'd go around and cut off the thumbs of anyone he found sucking on their thumbs My response to that as a kid was to stick my hand as far into my mouth as I could to hide the joint of my thumb in hopes that this way he wouldn't be able to cut it off XD

sucking your thumb or using a pacifier for long (usually recommended to stop around 3) can affect your teeth mostly misalignment so you might need braces later but more importantly it can affect a kids speech thats usually the big concern since they might need speech therapy

Thumb sucking at muffins, age can be really bad for the teeth as they come in because it can cause the mouth to become misshapen with a huge gap between the top and bottom teeth at the front.

thumb sucking is fine- thumb sucking may affect your teeth if a kid continues to after the age of 5 leading to the possibility of needing braces ( other reasons for braces- how they naturally form in a kids mouth)
