    We are part of nature, don't think we're above it or something separate. Man can decide if they want to save a cheetah cub from baboons just as much as any animal can choose to save another.

  • @ryderwashington4199

    +ikilledmacdre We are above nature, because we are past the survival of the fittest phase, we are past the natural selection phase. If those cameramen decided to save the Cheetah kitten (if it did get killed) then they'd have to feed the baboons, because we interfered with them.

  • @williamdelmer5944

    +Ryder Washington That is absolute nonsense. Man is FAR from being above nature and past the survival of the fittest and natural selection phases of life. In fact, you can never surpass such things because everyday is a new day in the jungle, be it concrete or wood. That cub wouldn't have fed even a baby baboon let alone a adult, so stepping in to help a species on the edge of extinction, who doesn't have many off spring to start with, wouldn't have hurt anything in the natural process of things.

  • @ryderwashington4199

    @ryderwashington4199

    william delmer We actually are past survival of the fittest, and natural selection. How? Well, in order for nature to evolve us people have to die in a huge number, that's how evolution works we have to die to evolve. Lately we aren't anywhere near dying, the human population is increasing VERY rapidly.

    Its amazing how many people comment from a place of emotion instead of a place of knowledge and reason. Helping the baby cheetah hurts the baboons. Just like helping whatever animal the Cheetah is hunting to feed her cub hurts them. All are predators with instincts to hunt and kill for food. To suppress those instincts is just as bad as killing them, sometimes worse. I swear people have absolutely lost the ability to see past their own emotions.

  • @jennellovis3714

    @jennellovis3714

    9 жыл бұрын

    Michael Capanelli that would be true if these were two species that were on equal footing population wise, however they are not, it would not have been ecologically damaging for him to drive off a baboon from one endangered cub, and definitely no where near to equaling out the amount of damage we humans do to the ecosystem by killing them ourselves.

  • @MrSmoothlist

    @MrSmoothlist

    9 жыл бұрын

    Michael Capanelli Isn't that the whole point? The presenter was in a battle of emotion over logic. Logic and emotion are both important parts of being human and far from being mutually exclusive they can be very complimentary if one gets the balance right. Having strong emotional bonds within our own social groups and feeling a need to protect those in our social group who are most vulnerable; this is perfectly human and without it we would probably be extinct, and would certainly not be living in such an evolved society which allows this guy to fly to the other side of the world, drive a jeep and film animals. Switching this in-built emotional response off is something that most of us cannot do, but I hear serial killers are quite good at it. Point is, the wider logical picture goes out of the window in such circumstances.

  • @colbol18

    @colbol18

    9 жыл бұрын

    ali xena I understand now. You argue that saving the cheetah is justifiable because the species is on the verge of extinction. Even though it is tempting to justify your bias by looking at the "bigger picture", you cannot forget that these are two individuals with just as much of a right to life as any living thing. How can you call interfering for the benefit of the cheetah and the expense of the baboon the "good" thing to do? If anything, I would call that favoritism. Reverse the situation and ask yourself if you think that saving a baby baboon from becoming a cheetah's meal would be the "good" thing to do, or would it be favoring one individual over another based on which species they belong to?

  • @alixena9340

    @alixena9340

    9 жыл бұрын

    colbol18 *sigh I was going to add in my previous comment back to you that if the baboons were nearing extinction and the cheetahs were in high numbers in the wild then leaving this baboon to kill this cheetah cub would be reasonable, as that would just be leaving nature to do it's thing and we shouldn't interfere. If you want to call my view of trying to save a species from extinction as "favoritism" then yeah, I am showing favoritism. ps, I have never said that anything is the "good" or the "bad" thing to do, they are your words. I am talking about, and please read this carefully now, the good of the SPECIES.

    I got so choked up watching this again. I watched this show faithfully the entire time it was on and I remember this episode vividly. All I could think was that if the baboons caught him, it would have stuck with me for a long time and would've broken my heart. To see the anguish on Jonathan's face as he watched it play out, was tough to see. And when Honey finally found Toto and Jonathan said he came close to intervening, I believed wholeheartedly that he would have. Such a great show..🤍

    Actually cheetahs are some of the most FRAGILE predators that exist, even taking down a kill can result in a broken bone. One of which might result in their death. Cheetahs on the other hand - can... Kill 7 times the amount of any other land predator. Run faster than an other predator trying to kill it. It's a glorious creature - i love to think of it as natures sniper.

    It's mainly the decline of habitat and poaching that has caused Cheetah numbers to drop. I understand what you're saying, but it wouldn't be fair to intervene as it could scare off the mother. The baboon could have even called to the others in alarm, causing the whole group to surround little Toto. It's very harsh, but you could be causing more damage without realising if you stepped in during such a moment. We simply need to conserve land sand deter poachers.
