Baby Attached to Placenta for 6 Days?

Ойын-сауық

Africa is statisticlly the poorest continent in the world. Saying something like "people in asia", or any other continent could be considered even more racist, since a larger portion of people would be considered "better off" Africa was the least racist choise in that situation

However, from what I understand, when a cord get cuts, it can take up to 21 days for it to heal versus up to 10 days for cord to fall off naturally to show perfect belly button. I remember how painful those seemed & how I hated to see when I changed their diapers. That recovery time is a red flag to me that natural is better Also, the baby doesn't gasp for air or cry. I read that leaving it attached helps baby become accoustomed to breathing air. If this is right, they are incredible benefits

Instead of saying “Africa”, an educated intelligent person would have said “in undeveloped countries” or something of that nature since her point was about people without access to western medicine. African countries have a wide range of cultures and lifestyle, from remote village life to “advance” city luxury... Also, the idea that things that are natural can also be very dangerous seems ignorant honestly... nature is very intelligently designed. Although harmful events can occur naturally, humans have the ability to assess situations and act accordingly. Knowledge is a better tool than technology. Essentially, natural methods are safe unless circumstantial situations arise where medical intervention is needed. Doctors seem to just read from a textbook. They understand medicine but don’t understand nature. Which seems problematic... we are nature no matter how much we try to make ourselves robots....

"Natural" living honestly makes pretty cool case studies for me. I had an awesome case the other day of getting to dissect a brain that shut down from measles encephalitis, which you don't get to see everyday considering it's preventable. But thanks to anti-vaxxers, I get more money than ever before. I mean, the horrible deaths aren't cool for the person, but they willingly chose that. It's a win-win though. They get to die young and naturally like we did in the old days just like they wanted, and I get a fun brain to dissect! Yay! Everyone wins!

I'm only a teenager but, i love learning about the human body and stuff, and as soon as i heard that they left the placenta attached it made me cringe. There is no point in leaving it attached, and can't that cause a severe or even life threatening infection? also, in nature as soon as animals give birth they eat both the umbilical cord and placenta, so I'm confused as to where this whole "its natural" thing came from because its not even natural.

They are dying in Africa because they are malnourished and the women have both low life expectancy and were often malnourished as children. It's a myth that historically we had high maternal and infant mortality because of a lack of medical intervention. In paleo times I doubt we did. In the medieval period we had terrible nutrition and life expectancies for everyone was terrible. Many women had rickets when they themselves were children, which lead to deformed pelves as adults. This accounts for a large fraction of infant and maternal mortality. Look at the rate of mortality now. Something like 99% of births occur without complications, and that isn't due to intervention, that's because we are far healthier. Sure, we should be really greatful for interventions that can save the small percentage of births that genuinely need them. They are life savers in that case. But an abnormal birth is the exception in healthy women.

omg those people are so sadly wrong, starting with the blonde woman. Too much blood from placenta is bad for the baby? She made that up on the spot. Lotus birth children have healthier weight gains than those who get their cords ripped off. when you do a surgical cut with scissors, it's a wound and needs medical assistance as sterilizing and the area needs to be taken care of until healed. watch birth videos and how babies react when they're born, and the moment when their cord is cut. it's mostly terror, panic and pain you can see. all for convenience, protocols and nuisance make-believe "necessities". salt and rosemary are the safest sterile ways to take care of the placenta, the baby and the new family. when the child is still attached to it's main nutrition supply he/she had throughout the pregnancy, baby is calmer and has a better time adjusting to the world he's born in to. nobody is grabbing the newborn to hold them out of needy love, it's left alone to adjust, establish breathing, feeding patterns, learn of immediate environment from mothers lap in family bed for a few peaceful days of family nesting and full attention on the baby, not relatives, doctors and whatever other bullshit anyone thinks is more important than the precious first days of newborn life ♡

If you put rock salt and other things on the placenta to disguise the smell won't it seep into the placenta? And is that good for the baby? Just curious.

That's why I was wondering too. If there is any blood exchange or flow it is possibly poisonous. But as there is none, otherwise it wouldn't start to rot, the substances put on the placenta won't go in the baby. Still the rotting could be harmfull for such a little and fragile organism. From a chemists point of view it seems very dangerous

The chord is not pulsing anymore so placental blood and fluids would not be reaching the baby. It’s no different than having the small piece of chord(dead, necrotic skin) that stays attached to the baby for the same amount of time if it was cut. It’s essentially a scab but the placenta is still on the other end. I’m not saying there’s a huge benefit to leaving the whole thing in tact just that what the blonde lady is saying is not valid if you have sense out of a text book. I just don’t think those would be the concerns..my concern would be the chord getting tugged to hard by something and still detaching painfully but it wouldn’t imagine it would be life threatening. That just means lotus would stress me out but not that it’s wrong.

If it worked for some moms all the glory to them but that it's seriously gross and I've tried the placenta smoothies so I'm not a totally closed minded person, but the placenta is fresh not rotting flesh. ugghh!!!

I still eat them.. a woman's period is an unfertilized egg and uterine lining.. and an unfertilized chicken egg is the same.. it's a chicken period.. if it wasnt a ch8ckwn period.. yoid crack it open to find a dead or developing baby chicken... which id rather find a chicken period. who cares.. they are delicious. Buck up, lol if people are going to eat food.. they atleast better know what it actually is.

Natural childbirth and carrying around a rotting piece of tissue for a week or more is two different things. Delaying the cord cutting, I completely understand but if it smells to the point that herbs, flowers, deodorizers are needed to keep the smell at bay, that's a huge sign imo. I would suppose it's a good way to keep houseguests and visitors away for a week or so. I do not understand the "Natural" in it.

  • @eptile

Abby Hayman 1. it was only for a picture obviously. 2. sids usually happens because babies are face down into a blankets/blanket/or pillows. usually overly fuzzy blankets people use to put over their babies while they sleep or line their babies cribs with. I doubt a baby would die from sids in a matter of those few minutes she took to take those pictures while she watched.. btw.. I'm not a fan of leaving it on until it falls off.. until the first feeding or 5-10 minutes is enough for the effects they want.

The placenta doesn't smell bad it actually smells great because of the herbs used to preserve it until it naturally falls off and it can happen in less than 3 days. Its not about what's fun for the mom its whats best for the baby and mom.
