BA Falcon Leaking PowerStreering fluid fix repair DIY

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

An O ring could also be the culprit on your falcon. If you see the silver powersteering line having a leak dropping onto the coolant hose below it and then dropping to the alternator, get on it sooner rather than later so your alternator doesn't burn out.
Use a new O ring and leak will be sorted, just make sure it's tight fitting like I show here.
Hope this helps, any questions, comment below I'll do my best to help.
My Power steering flush video:
• Ford Falcon Ba/Bf Powe...
I'd recommend flushing at the same time after you have installed the new O ring.
Cheers

This will only work on replacement hoses. The original BA hoses have a different fitting on the end which is not serviceable. I doubt there are many BA's with original hoses but you can check if it is by trying to move the pipe where it goes into the fitting. If it moves it's original. You can buy just the fitting for the original style but it's a pain in the arse to fit & you're only replacing a crap fitting with another crap fitting. Buy a whole new hose with the updated fitting like this one in the video, they're only about $70. Don't rely on wheel size to order the new one, you need to check whether your hose has 2 bends or 3 bends on the bottom end.

This is not an original ps hose. At 8.49 you can see him move the fitting, totally different in the original ford fitting which is crap, as it has an internal o-ring that cannot be replaced. But ford sell the end fitting separately for $18. To use it you must angle grind off the old fitting without damaging the pipe, to slip on the new fitting. I did this, but the new fitting only lasted 6 weeks before the internal O ring failed again. Hence now getting new line instead.

100% right . You need the actually Genuine O ring , otherwise the leaks back again in second week & Ford Doesn’t sell the ring separately , you have to buy the complete hose . I know that’s not fair to pay $360 or $420 at some place’s , but no choices if you want to do a good job . Cheers: Adra

Actually the end fitting supplied by Ford did have the internal o ring included. I replaced the hose with a redesigned hose from Repco for A$90, which is cheaper than eBay. Pretty easy to fit, and now no leaks! Worse part of job is having to drain the oil before fitting new hose, ie bit messy.

  • @FordMercGuy

    @FordMercGuy

    3 жыл бұрын

Hi Allan. Perhaps you have some air trapped in the system.? You can bleed the system by leaving the cap off for a few minutes while the car is running. I removed the return hose due to wanting to evacuate the reservoir fluid to save the fluid to reuse it and to also avoid wasting fluid when undoing the high pressure side. The O ring my apologies I utilised one by sight, I don't have the size reference of what I used. Cheers

If it is the steering rack creaking- loosen off the steering rack nuts a fair way, apply grease between the rack mounts & the cross member, clean the steering rack mounting stud threads & apply Loctite to the threads. Torque the nuts up to spec. [The rack in BA/ early BF's has a tendency to move a tad, which cases the creaking noise of the metals bind up on each other; some BF 2's, BF 3's & early FG had the same issue] Could also be the swaybar bushes- i grind a groove in the inner side of the rubbers (if they are still serviceable), and put some thick grease in the groove (not too much though), as the rubbers can bind up on the swaybar itself, also causing a creak sound. There was also a change in one of the power steering lines in later BA's, due to the shape of the line causing cavitation, and even creaking, in some vehicles; there was a recall for the affected vehicles with that particular hose (the replacement hose has a couple of loops in the hardline)

I saw a KZread video of a "Ford falcon power steering pump biopsy" and as he opens up the reservoir bottle from the pump there was an O ring between the two. I changed that o ring and I never have had a leak again. I was suspect that this O ring I changed in the video wasn't the culprit of the leak because I put a good 2nd hand O ring from a wrecker falcon that didn't have any leak at all so I ruled out this O ring leaking.. And I inspected further up my pump and saw the oil leak was from further up, and prompted me to check for youtube videos. Hope it helps.

Hey mate, are you referring to the part that this Oring sat on? The screw able nut itself?

@@FordMercGuy yes. The union goes onto the line. They leak from the oring inside it.

@@shahreef1 change the union you can't just change the oring in there? Google.... ask ford. You need to change the union.... or the whole line to fix it. Simple.

I have an fg which is leaking power steering, how can I know that it is the o ring and not something else? Anything I should be looking out for? Thanks

In my case this o ring helped my leak but not completely. I later found the O ring between the reservoir bottle and the pump itself was leaking. I worked this out because even after changing this coupling o ring 3 times I realised the leak was coming from further up, and leaking onto the power steering line making it look like it was the O ring I videod. I got the idea to replace the O ring between the reservoir bottle and the pump by watching the power steering pump "autopsy" video on KZread you'll find it if you search it. And I saw two metal clips get removed and the reservoir bottle came out and I saw that o ring. I had a hunch mine had never been changed (350,000 ks on my car) and for $12 power steering O ring kit for thr falcon from repco I thought I'd try my luck. And hasn't leaked since. Hope it helps.

Had started leaking on yours? There's an O ring seating between reservoir bottle and the pump. Mine was also leaking from that one.
