Leaving aside all technical and theoretical data, the only main criterion is "Which one can I listen to longer without tiring me?" I say 603 as an answer to the question.. For me, how ear-friendly a speaker is is an important criterion rather than the numbers written by the manufacturer on the label.. That brilliance and sharpness of the 706s, which was impressive at first, will start to cause uneasiness after a certain period of time. At least that's how it is for me.. My vote is for the 603s. We sincerely thank you for allowing us to have an idea about what we are curious about. :)

Great comparison test, thank you. The 603S2 is a rich low, but it has a tubular sound. The 706S2 likes to sound well Hi-Low balanced and clear. It is even better to have a richness up to around 35Hz.

Thanks for your comment. This MAY partially explain the stark difference in sound quality on your videos between large and small speakers. However, some other reviewers manage to make large speakers sound good on KZread videos! Anyway, thank you for your excellent videos on smaller speakers.

This is a very telling comparison, the vocals and upper midrange on the 706 have so much more clarity, the 603 sounds veiled and boxy in comparison, this might explain what I'm hearing on my 606, I think I need to step up to the 706.

Thank you for your reply but I cannot have explained myself very well. I did watch your excellent video all through and I had noticed your interesting comments which I’ve no reason to doubt. My point was solely connected with the fact that small speakers invariably sound much better than large speakers on your videos. It’s something connected with the recording technique, I think. If you don’t believe me, listen to your own KZread demos on 1080p KZread through and iPad with earphones. The differences are stark, at least with my Philips Fidelio earphones..

Hi, need help I am using yamaha a-s201 amp. It played very well with monitor audio and b&w speakers (both 8ohm) I tried yamaha nsf51 (6ohm) and where with 8ohm speakers at 50db was fairly loud, with nsf51 at same volume 50db is very quiet. At maximum loudness far from what i had with monitor audio/b&w speakers. On the back of A-s201 states 8ohm minimum. Ok I understand maybe they didn’t match well, even tho i was advised 6ohm speakers will play even louder. Now i got wharfedale 11.3 (4-8ohm). So a-s201 should have no problem right, as the speaker is fully ok to be matched with 8ohm amp. But unfortunately exactly same problem with loudness as when it was with nsf51 speakers. What is happening here? Many thanks!

Lack of bass and depth of the 706. But the 706 has plenty of dynamics and tightness. With the 603 it's punchy and delivers the sound. They are not easy listeners say like the JBL type presentation.

Good morning Thatbamar, I am planning between Q1)...a Bookshelf vs Floorstanding speakers so could you kindly which audience are these type of speakers targets towards to? I mean who should select Bookshelf & who should Floorstanding speakers? Q2. I am going to audition Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2, 606 S2 & 607 S2. I use Yamaha RX-V685 Amplifier. Could you kindly suggest which among these can perfectly match my Yamaha amp? (Kindly note that I also need to buy a Sub-woofer). Q3) My present setup is Harman Kardon HKTS 9 on-wall satellite speakers 5.1 & the reason why I had loved these speakers is b'coz it output sweetest sound especially its Sub-woofer. Do you feel based on my speaker taste, Bowers & Wilkins brand shall be the right choice as an upgrade or would you suggest me some other brand? Q4) What am I buying speakers for? Ans: I want to re-enjoy all the Bollywood Hindi movies right from 60's till date so as to experience minute of sound details which wasn't possible under a normal TV speakers. Also I love watching Hindi songs on KZread especially the sweet bass effects that was output by my Harman Kardon HKTS 9 Sub-woofer. I will also listen to lots of Hindi songs which is in FLAC format via pen drive inserted into the front USB port of my Yamaha RX-V685 amp so, does these Bowers & Wilkins model support playback of High Resolution audio? I will also watch all the contents on Amazon Prime, Netflix & Disney+ Hotstar both in Hindi & English language so is this brand & models a great choice to enjoy these contents at its best? I will also watch all the daily TV Soaps (TV Serials) in Hindi language telecasted on Star Plus, Sony TV, Sab TV & Sony Pal. Few of the hindi TV serial examples are: Tarakh Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma, Waghle Ki Duniya, Ghum Hai Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein, Pandya Store, Dhruv Tara, Pushpa Impossible, Vanshaj, CID, etc... so am I selecting the right brand & model to enjoy these contents at its best? Q5) What do I want out of a speaker? Ans: I am looking out for a speaked which can make me feel completely inside the scenes, create a strong fear within when watching a Horror or suspense movie such as a door opening slowly, Ghost walking from behind...creates a strong but very sweet Punchy sound when a Dinosaur places any of his feets on the ground that shakens up my living room, and the Surround feeling has to be such that as if Helicopter came from behind & moved around me & went further as well as the action feeling has to be outstanding during fight scenes, Gun triggering bullets & so on... Overall the MOST IMPORTANT thing is that I want to a kind of speaker which doesn't turn my beginning experience into a headache & create fatigue when listened to over hours & hours but a super pleasant one which just doesn't allow me to turn off the home theatre after long hours of listening but, I keep listening & listening 24hrs a day keeping me glued to my Sofa. One more important piece of infor: The distance from my Sitting position (Sofa) to my TV is of 11 feet. Many thanks in advance for your valuable response which I am eagerly waiting for. Please suggest me the absolutely best one so that my buying experience turns out to be super value for every money spent since these are highly expensive speakers costing in lakhs. I will be buying Front Left & Right Channel, Center channel, Rear (Surround) speakers & a Sub-woofer b'coz my existing Harman Kardon HKTS 9 bought in February 2013 has its sound being diminished by 50% due to which, I have to increase the volume all the way till -15 to -13db. Also, can you kindly suggest what is the safest volume point when listening to these high end expensive speakers so that, they do not get damaged?

706S2 sound more composed in comparison to the 603S2. My choice is 706s2 without 2nd thought (perhaps only one: where can i find the stands for them?)

You already know my answer Harry. LOL But in my case they were the larger 606'S. The B&W's are good, for my goals, in my system, I enjoy the Quads more.

@@Tharbamar Out of all the bookshelves I have gone through lately, the B&W's were my favorite. Other than the Quads. I feel the detail and treble on the B&W's were a little too much for my taste. Like you've said in the past, the Quads nail tone, accuracy and natural voices.

Much better clarity on the 706s2, even though the 603 goes maybe a bit deeper it just lacks the clarity. For me the 706s2 is clearly the better speaker between these two.

The 603 goes deeper, but 706 S2 has another level of imaging and clarity. I solved this by adding the B&W ASW 608 subwoofer to take care of the lowest part.

I think you highlighted the mediocrity of the 603's, I am not keen on the way speakers manufacturers give you bits and pieces of their knowledge and technology charging so many different prices. There are far too many B&W models leading to confusion with where best buy is. EG, how does the 706 compare with the 707 and the 705s ? There is also a 705 Signature at nearly treble the price ! I admittedly haven't listened to them but the top of the range bookshelf B&W 805 D3 cost 5 times the price , is it any better ? Back to your comparison, the 706 sounds better in every way. I was interested in a 700 series floorstander, but I may end up getting these bookshelf 706's instead !

Las 603 suenan mucho mejor, mejor la batería, el punteo de guitarra y la zona vocal. Es cuestión de física, tiene más altavoces para reproducir mejor todo el espectro y lo hace descaradamente mejor. Lo que hay que temer mucho cuidado es donde meter la 603 ya que en una habitación pequeña no valen.
